OnePlus Nord 6GB RAM variant to go on sale for the first time on Amazon on September 21

OnePlus promised a more affordable 6GB RAM variant of the OnePlus Nord back when it debuted in July, exclusively for India. Well, it’s time has now come and OnePlus announced the 6GB RAM OnePlus Nord with 64GB storage will be available from September 21 and is priced Rs 24,999.

The 6GB RAM variant comes a good two months after the smartphone was announced, and this one will be sold only on Amazon India. And while so far the options were only the 8GB and 12GB RAM variants priced Rs 27,999 and Rs 29,999 respectively, the 6GB RAM variant makes the OnePlus Nord available for under Rs 25,000 which is certainly a sweet spot for the Indian smartphone market.

OnePlus Nord 6GB RAM variant sale on September 21 on Amazon India

The 6GB RAM variant of the OnePlus Nord will go on its first sale on September 21. We suggest you start refreshing the page a few minutes before the sale starts to get a chance to purchase the smartphone. But if you don’t, fret not because OnePlus would be hosting multiple sales leading up to the festive season.

There’s also a new colour variant of the OnePlus Nord that’s teased to launch. Presently, you can get the OnePlus Nord in the Onyx Grey and Blue Marble colours, and OnePlus is expected to launch a Grey Ash colour variant in October.

The OnePlus Nord runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and is OnePlus’ first affordable smartphone in years. It rocks a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and a 48MP triple camera stack on the back along with dual front cameras. Reviewing the smartphone, we found it’s really one of the best mid-rangers around particularly thanks to the well-optimised OxygenOS 10 UI that keeps getting better with new updates. The most recent one was rolled out in the beginning of September and comes with a wide range of fixes and improvements in the camera and performance.

PS5 could be priced at 449, PS5 Digital Edition under 400: Report

Microsoft blinked first and announced the price and availability of the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X including the India price and availability. While Sony has had a product, page live for the PS5 on Indian e-commerce websites, price and availability of the console still remain a mystery. According to Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Masahiro Wakasugi, “The full PS5 console may be priced as low as $449 while the slimmer digital-only version may dip below $400.”

While many have suggested different price points for the PS5, it is clear that Sony will not charge more than $499 for the PS5 as that is where Microsoft has priced its flagship Xbox Series X (Rs 49,990 in India). While information circulating the internet suggests that it costs Sony $450 to make a PS5, it is possible that Sony would not want to take a loss on each unit sold and sell it at cost - $449 undercutting the Series X by $50, internationally.

The Series S, on the other hand, is quite aggressively priced at $299 (Rs 34,990 in India) but brings with it a considerable reduction in power when compared to the Xbox Series X and the PS5 Digital Edition. The PS5 Digital Edition is still a PS5 just without the disc drive. If Sony prices the Digital Edition PS5 at around $350, it would make for a compelling alternative Xbox Series S. However, the official price of the PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition are still unknown.

So, what does this mean for the PS5 price in India?

Microsoft has announced that the Xbox Series S and Series X will be priced at Rs 34,990 and Rs 49,990 respectively. How much the $50 difference in price means for India remains to be seen but heavy taxes levied on consoles in India means we can expect the PS5 to be close to Rs 50,000 and the Digital Edition somewhere close to Rs 40,000. Note that this is just us speculating.

PS5 Production Issues.

The PS5 has reportedly been facing production issues as well. According to the Bloomberg report, “production yields as low as 50% for its SOC, which have cut into its ability to produce as many consoles as it wishes, said the people, who asked to remain anonymous because the deliberations aren’t public. Yields have been gradually improving but have yet to reach a stable level, they added”.

Sony has reportedly cut down the production of the PS5 from 15 million units ending March 2021 to 11 million units. Sony started 2020 with conservative figures for the PS5 then decided to increase production in July. This is because more people are spending time at home and gaming due to the ongoing pandemic and Sony anticipates high demand for its next-gen console.

The new LG Wing with a swivelling second screen goes official, bringing a wacky new form factor

LG just announced a hot new smartphone called the LG Wing, and it’s unlike anything you have seen before. It’s a phone with a swivelling second screen that flips out from the back. Of course, the party was spoiled when the smartphone leaked out in a hands-on video a few weeks before the launch, but LG spent a good few minutes talking about the possible use cases with this form-factor, and it sounds like the breath of fresh air 2020 needed.

It’s really not the first time we’re seeing dual-display phones. Heck, LG has been known to make the form-factor mainstream themselves, but the Wing is in a whole new league of its own, and can be looked at as an answer to the expensive foldable smartphones from its domestic rival.

A phone from the future

LG Wing use cases

The LG Wing is part of LG’s Explorer Project, under which the company plays around with new form factors, to push the envelope of industrial design a little further. The Wing seems to be just the beginning, and LG seems to be working on a whole ecosystem of futuristic smartphones, and it has got Qualcomm, search engine Naver and Korean streaming platforms Tubi and Ficto, as collaborators and co-conspirators.

If you take away the second display, the LG Wing looks like a normal candy bar smartphone with a 6.8-inch curved P-OLED display with FHD+ resolution. It’s also bezel-less by having a 32MP selfie camera held inside a pop-up module. And as expected, it’s not water or dust resistant, like other LG flagship phones. The second display is a G-OLED display measuring 3.9-inches with a 1.15:1 aspect ratio, and it is this second screen that makes all the difference.

You can use the Wing as a regular smartphone, but turn it horizontal and you will be able to flick open an additional display that promises a host of new use cases. The second screen will show all incoming notifications as you watch a movie on the primary screen. You can even edit videos using the two screens right after shooting it. Or, keep GPS navigation open on the main screen and receive calls on the second screen.

How does the swivel screen work?

LG said it has used a hydraulic damper and a dual-lock mechanism to absorb shock when you swivel out the display quickly. The damper absorbs the jerk while the lock keeps it in place as you use it. LG claimed the Wing screen should last at least 200,000 swivels. And at 260 grams with 10.9mm thickness, adding a second screen hasn’t altered the ergonomics by much.

LG Wing Specs and features

LG Wing use cases

At the back is a 64MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide shooter dedicated to the swivel screen and another 13MP ultrawide for the main display. There’s even a gimbal mode which can be controlled using a virtual joystick.

The LG Wing runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and is paired with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. The phone relies on a 4,000mAh battery to keep it ticking and LG even manage to provide wireless charging in this form factor.

And while all this sounds terribly exciting, we don’t know what the smartphone is going to be priced at, or whether it will be coming to India. For now, LG has announced the availability of the LG Wing for the US Markets with carrier locks. It will be coming to Verizon first, followed by AT&T and T-Mobile in the near future.

Xbox Series S and Series X will be the first consoles to enable gaming in both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos

The next generation of gaming consoles are just around the corner with Microsoft revealing the India price and availability of the Xbox Series S and X. Sony, on the other hand, is holding an event on Wednesday night (wee hours of Thursday to be precise) and is expected to shed light on the price and release date of the PS5. While the new consoles bring with them impressive hardware under the hood, one feature that will be a first is the ability to play in Dolby Vision. While games such as Gears 5 (review), Call of Duty: Warzone, Crackdown 3 (review), Forza Horizon 4 and many more games on the Xbox One support Dolby Atmos today, games sadly don't support Dolby Vision on the console. Both the PS4 and Xbox One consoles can play games in HDR, but not Dolby Vision.

Dolby has announced that the next-gen Xbox consoles, the Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X will be the first consoles to support Dolby Vision. In a tweet, Dolby says, “Introducing the next level of gaming. ⁣The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are the first consoles ever with gaming in Dolby Vision (coming soon) and Dolby Atmos (available at launch).⁣⁣ @Xbox, welcome to gaming in Dolby.”

Introducing the next level of gaming.⁣ ⁣ The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are the first consoles ever with gaming in Dolby Vision® (coming soon) and Dolby Atmos® (available at launch).⁣⁣ ⁣⁣@Xbox, welcome to gaming in Dolby. https://t.co/5lkpVT8ntb

— Dolby (@Dolby) September 10, 2020

So how does gaming in Dolby Vision enhance your gaming experience? Well to begin with, you need to have a TV capable of Dolby Vision. Once that is taken care off, gamers can expect 40x brighter highlights, 10x deeper blacks and up to 12-bit colour depth. When it comes to Dolby Atmos, Dolby says, “Dolby Atmos puts you in the middle of the action by precisely placing each sound all around you in three-dimensional space, so you can quickly pinpoint its location in the game — before it's too late.” Interestingly, Sony has been working on developing its own 3D audio tech to enhance the audio experience from games on the PS5 rather than resorting to a ready-made solution like Dolby Atmos.

The only place where the current console generation - the Xbox One and the PS4 support Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision is from streaming services like Netflix which offers content in both the formats.

Currently, games are available in HDR on the Xbox One S, One X and PS4 but as more and more TVs support Dolby Vision, it is natural for the technology to make its mark in games. It remains to be seen whether we will be able to play games in Dolby Vision on the PS5.
