The iPhone 12 mini could be the smallest device in latest range of Apple smartphones: Report

Apple iPhone 12 mini could possibly be the name of the smallest iPhone 12 model, according to the latest leak doing the rounds online. The iPhone 12 series is expected to launch sometime in October and will bring four new iPhones. As per the recent leak by a tipster on Twitter, Apple is readying to launch the iPhone 12 mini along with three other iPhones.

According to a post on Twitter, the smallest 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will debut as the iPhone 12 mini. It is expected to be joined by the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. In retrospect, Apple has used the term “mini” with the iPad, iPod and Mac, so it isn’t like the company isn’t familiar with that name. In all likelihood, it does seem entirely possible for Apple to introduce the iPhone 12 mini as that would help it differentiate from the iPhone SE 2020 and future iterations.

Snapdragon 750G with 5G support announced, Xiaomi to get first dibs

Qualcomm announced a new entrant in the 7-series lineup of Snapdragon chips — The Snapdragon 750G. The chipset seems to fit in between the Snapdragon 730G and the Snapdragon 765G. It comes with 5G support, the latest AI engine and a more powerful CPU and GPU.

Qualcomm also announced the first wave of devices powered by the Snapdragon 750G will start launching by the end of 2020. Xiaomi will be the first to launch the first smartphone powered by the new SoC.

“Xiaomi is committed to developing cutting-edge devices to address the growing consumer demand for 5G. We are proud to work with Qualcomm Technologies to launch the first commercial smartphone based on the latest Snapdragon 750G to consumers,”Quanxin Wang, General Manager of Product and Technology, Xiaomi International said in a statement.

The Snapdragon 7-series may have been launched to bridge the gap between the 6-series and 8-series chipsets, but it has become the premium mid-range chipset of choice for OEMs in India. Most of the popular mid-range smartphones rely on either the Snapdragon 720G or the Snapdragon 730G, while the Snapdragon 765G is issued at a higher price. So in terms of which price segment the chipset will cater to, it seems Qualcomm is aiming for that sweet spot of 20-25k in India with the SoC, considering that’s the price delta between the SD730G and the SD765G. Here’s what the new 7-series addition brings to the table —

Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G reference device

5G support

The Snapdragon 750G features the Snapdragon X52 5G modem along with the required RF-system that supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz networks in both standalone and non-standalone modes. It also supports TDD, FDD and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing for 5G networks, along with global-roaming and global multi-SIM support. Basically, the chipset covers almost the entire spectrum of 5G infrastructure across the world.

CPU, GPU and RAM

The Snapdragon 750G is based on an 8nm manufacturing process, and relies on Kryo 570 cores based on ARM Cortex A77, while the GPU is the Adreno 619. The CPU has an octa-core arrangement capable of going up to 2.2GHz. Interestingly, the CPU belongs to the same family as the one on the Snapdragon 865, but then we are not sure whether this too follows a triple-cluster arrangement. Qualcomm promises a 20 percent boost in CPU performance as compared to the Snapdragon 730G, while the GPU is claimed to be 10 percent faster. The Snapdragon 750G supports up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM.

Qualcomm also promises a few Snapdragon Elite gaming features including HDR gaming, updatable GPU drivers and HDR fast blend.

AI capabilities

The Snapdragon 750G runs on Qualcomm’s 5th AI engine claiming a 20% improvement in AI processing speed as compared to the Snapdragon 730G. The AI Engine is used for enabling smart camera features, voice translation, and gaming. The chipset also houses the Qualcomm Sensing Hub, that enables things like AI-based echo and background noise cancellation during voice chats and gaming sessions. Qualcomm claims the AI engine is able to filter out background noise like construction sounds, children or a barking dog.

Display  and connectivity

The Snapdragon 750G is capable of supporting either up to QHD+ resolution or 120Hz refresh rate at FHD+. There’s also support for 10-bit colour depth and HDR10+. It’s also Wi-Fi 6 ready and supports Bluetooth 5.1.

New Google Sabrina leaks showcases remote design

A new leak has given us our best view at Google’s upcoming streaming device, codenamed Sabrina.

The leaks have surfaced from WinFuture which clearly show the short HDMI cable attached to the device and a USB port to power the device at the bottom.

The remote has a d-pad, back button and assistant button on the top. Below that we can see the home and mute button followed by a dedicated button for Netflix and Youtube. Finishing at the bottom with a power button and an input switch too.

The remote also has a side mounted volume rocker on the right to control the volume. This is something we saw on the first generation remote control that came with the OnePlus Q1 TV. Previously a customizable button was rumoured to be spotted on the remote which is clearly missing from these leaks.

Google Sabrina leaked

Sabrina is also expected to feature a low latency mode, which hints at Google Stadia being supported by the device. This would enable the users to game more easily on a big screen using the small hardware. Currently, if gamers want to use Stadia on their 4K TVs, they need to invest in a Chromecast Ultra.

There is no new report on the hardware specifications, apart from the information available since June. The previous leaks suggested that Sabrina is expected to have the Amlogic S905X2 12 nm quad-core CPU with 4 ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at up to 1.8GHz. The CPU is accompanied by the ARM Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. It also packs in 2GB of RAM and supports 4K 10-bit colors on HDMI 2.1 port. You can learn more about the specifications and the design of the upcoming Google Android TV device here. You can also check out our previous report, which gave us insights on the new name and some features of the streaming dongle.

Sabrina is expected to give users an experience found on Android powered TVs from brands like Sony, OnePlus, Hisense and more. We have also seen streaming devices like the Mi Box 4K, Nokia Media Streamer and many more bring an Android TV experience to users. How Google will change or tweak the UI with Sabrina remains to be seen.

The wait isn’t long till we get the official details as this is going to be launched along with the new Pixel device and smart speaker on September 30.

It was earlier reported that thousands of Activision accounts had been hacked and that users passwords and login details had been leaked. First reported by Dexerto, it appears that this hack took place on September 20 and hackers have reportedly released login details publicly. It seems that these hackers have been changing the details and thus have left users locked out of their own accounts. The hack was first noticed by Twitter user ‘oRemyy’ and has been confirmed by other content creators as well. But, according to Activision itself, the company has denied that the hack ever took place.

Activision is claiming that the reported hack was false and that the information is not accurate. Although, Activision has tweeted out a message with tips to help you safeguard your account. The company also said, “Reports suggesting Activision Call of Duty accounts have been compromised are not accurate. As always we recommend that players take precaution to protect their Activision accounts, as well as any online accounts, at all times.”
