Xiaomis new 80W wireless charging technology can charge a smartphone from 0 to 100 percent in 19 minutes

Xiaomi has officially introduced its 80W Mi Wireless Charging technology after making headway with the development of 40W and 50W fast charging standards from earlier this year. As per Xiaomi, the new 80W fast wireless charging technology can charge a 4,000mAh battery from 0-100% in just 19 minutes.

Much like other smartphone brands, Xiaomi too has been at the forefront of developing its proprietary fast-charging solutions and this next generation of wireless fast charger is a result of the increasing competition in this particular aspect of smartphones. The company currently sells a 30W wireless charger in India that it launched alongside the Mi 10, earlier this year. Popular leakster Digital Chat Station has posted an image of the 80W Mi Wireless Charger online that gives us another look at the charging dock.

Xiaomi Mi 80W fast wireless charging technology launched

In comparison to the latest 80W wireless charging technology, the 30W charger was capable of recharging a phone from 0-100% in 69 minutes. Fast-forward to August 2020, Xiaomi announced its 50W fast wireless charging technology that could recharge the 4,500mah battery of the Mi 10 Ultra fully in 40 minutes.

“The introduction of 80W Mi Wireless Charging Technology is expected to set a new benchmark not only in the area of wireless charging but in charging as a whole. Xiaomi has been spearheading this trend by recognizing the importance of battery life and faster charging for the future development of smartphones,” Xiaomi wrote on a blog post.

Xiaomi showcased its 80W fast wireless charging technology on a modified version of the Mi 10 Pro wherein we can see the Mi Wireless Charger recharge the phone’s battery to 10% in one minute, 50% in eight minutes and 100% in 19 minutes tops.

Back in July, Oppo announced a 65W AirVOOC fast wireless charging pad that was capable of topping-up a 4,000mAh phone fully in 30 minutes. However, with this latest breakthrough by Xiaomi, we have a new fast wireless charging standard on the block.

The company is yet to announce a phone that natively supports 80W fast wireless charging technology but knowing Xiaomi, we can expect it to land upon its next flagship smartphone, whenever that is.

Facebook under investigation for mishandling childrens data on Instagram

Facebook has once again come under scrutiny, this time involving underage users of Instagram. Ireland’s Data Protection Commission has initiated investigations into Facebook’s operations after concerns were raised about the way the social networking giant handled personal information of minors using Instagram.

The report comes via The Telegraph, which revealed that Instagram was found to have made the email IDs and phone numbers of users under the age of 18 public. The Irish regulator has launched two investigations, after a U.S. based data scientist pointed out the problem. The first of two investigations launched by the DPC is going to be examining whether Facebook had any legal basis for having such information in the first place. "This inquiry will also consider whether Facebook meets its obligations as a data controller with regard to transparency requirements in its provision of Instagram to children," Deputy Commissioner Graham Doyle told Reuters.

The second inquiry will be focused on Instagram itself, trying to determine whether the photo-sharing site’s account and profile settings followed the data protection guidelines set forth by the DPC. If found guilty of violating the protection guidelines, Instagram could be liable to pay fines of up to 4 percent of its annual global revenue, or EUR 20 million, whichever is higher. Given that there are two investigations going on around the same matter, the fine would be applicable for each investigation independently.

Facebook has been under constant vigilance ever since the Cambridge Analytica scandal broke. The company has faced many enquiries by government agencies in recent times, but no concrete action has ever been taken. Most agencies have relied on Facebook to just do the right thing after, but not much has changed. As people and governments worry about Facebook’s extensive abilities to track people’s activities, Facebook has gone ahead and merged Instagram and Messenger’s messaging systems. Facebook continues to move towards integrating its three service; Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, despite concerns.
