PUBG Mobile Beta gets Metro Royale Mode as part of partnership with Metro Exodus

PUBG Mobile may have been banned by the Indian government, but that doesn’t seem to have slowed down the company in terms of updates. The game developers announced a partnership with the popular Metro series of games back in August, and now it looks like we finally know how the partnership will materialise.

You may have claimed a Chicken Dinner... but you haven't seen anything yet! Be sure to stay tuned for our collaboration with Metro Exodus, the latest video game in the acclaimed @MetroVideoGame series! More details coming soon! https://t.co/V8wiKgp7XD pic.twitter.com/DCyu8PERgo

For those who don’t know, Metro is a series of first-person survival horror shooters that is set in a post-apocalyptic Russia. Most of the world has been devastated by nuclear war and the surface world is left desolated by nuclear fallout, which has given birth to mutated monsters. Humans survived by taking shelter in the underground metro stations. The game is available on PC, Xbox One, and the PlayStation.

While the developers are being mysterious about the partnership, the update has made its way to the Beta version of PUBG Mobile has already been updated with the same. Interestingly, our Beta version of  PUBG Mobile is updating, even with the ban in place. In fact, some players are still playing the standard version of PUBG Mobile, 50 days after the ban was put in place. You can know more about that here.

Coming back to the update, the partnership will see a new Metro: Exodus mode appear in-game. Called Metro Royale Mode, it adds a dash of survival elements to the game. Players get to play on a new map and get to choose a loadout before heading out. The new map features a number of new locations as well as underground sections where players will be able to ride pushcars.

WhatsApp for web now lets you make voice calls: Report

WhatsApp for Web has made it convenient for users to chat on WhatsApp while working on their computers. This means, that once you are logged in on your computer, you don't need to reach for your phone every time you get a message. You can simply check the messages on your desktop/laptop. The desktop client also gives you notifications when you receive a new message. The one feature that WhatsApp for Web lacks is the ability to make and receive calls - both voice and video. But it looks like that’s about to change.

According to WABetaInfo, a new version of WhatsApp for web/desktop has released. This brings the version up to 2.2043.7. The addition that this update brings is the ability to make calls. In the top right of a contact window, the user will see a phone icon letting him/her make a call.

WhatsApp Web 2.2043.7: what’s new? More details and screenshots for Voice and Video Calls, from WhatsApp Web! WhatsApp has also added a "BETA" label, suggesting to offer Calls from WhatsApp Web soon!https://t.co/kkk9Oq5Mqx NOTE: This feature will be enabled soon.

— WABetaInfo (@WABetaInfo) October 19, 2020

Users can also receive a call using the desktop/web app. When receiving a call, you will see a small pop-up window that will give you the option to receive or reject a call. When making a call, you also get a small popup showing the status as calling or ringing, similar to what we’ve seen on a smartphone.

According to the source, group voice calls and video calls are also there but the feature isn’t available yet.

The feature to answer and make calls coming to WhatsApp for Web is quite interesting and will give users a totally mobile free experience for using WhatsApp for Web so long as your phone is on and connected to the internet.

WhatsApp has added a bunch of new features to its mobile app along with some features that are in beta. You can learn more about them here.

Reliance Jio 5G smartphone could be priced under Rs 5,000 at launch: Report

Reliance Jio’s yet-unannounced 5G smartphone could be priced under Rs 5,000 at launch and the company is already looking to bring the price down to between Rs 2,500-Rs 3,000 as sales progress, per the latest PTI report. The telecom operator is reportedly in talks with domestic smartphone manufacturers as well as global players to produce entry-level 5G smartphones for over 350 million 2G users in India.

Back in July, Jio Platforms received an investment of Rs 33,737 crores from Google and as a part of its deal with the Mountain View giant, both companies are also collaborating to develop Android-powered entry-level 5G smartphones. According to the latest report by PTI that cites “a company official”, Jio could launch the 5G phone at under Rs 5,000 but aims to lower down the price to Rs 2,500-Rs 3,000 after scaling up the sales.

Reliance Jio could price its entry level 5G phone under Rs 5,000

Currently, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G-powered OnePlus Nord is the most affordable 5G smartphone available in India and is priced starting at Rs 24,999. However, Reliance Jio is not going up against the likes of the Nord as the company aims to transition 2G users to 5G smartphones, something that has been highlighted by Chairman and MD, Mukesh Ambani at Reliance Industries AGM conference, earlier this year.

As per a previous report, Jio is planning to manufacture over 200 million smartphones by 2022 up from its earlier estimate of 100 million smartphones. The company is already in talks with local manufacturers such as Lava Mobiles, Karbonn and Dixon and more to increase the production capacity at their respective manufacturing plants. The final order for the Jio 5G smartphone will likely be distributed amongst two or more mobile phone manufacturers in India.

Another report hints at the possibility of Jio bundling tariff plans with its upcoming entry-level smartphone in an attempt to increase its subscriber base. India is still home to over 350 million users on 2G networks and Reliance wants to bring these users up to speed with its affordable 5G phone.

Reliance Jio announced the Jio Phone back in 2017 and followed it up with the Jio Phone 2 in 2018. Since the beginning of 2020, Reliance has raised over Rs 152,000 crores in its digital arm, Jio Platforms from companies like Google, Facebook, Qualcomm and Silver Lake, to name a few. There’s no official word as to when we will be able to see Jio’s 5G smartphone in action, but we’ll keep an eye out for developments, nonetheless.
