Xbox head honcho, Phil Spencer hints at a TV stick with xCloud support

We’re less than a month away from the release of the much-hyped next-gen consoles in the form of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S and the hits just keep on coming. In a recent interview with Stratechery, Phil Spender, Head of gaming and Xbox, Microsoft, announced that the company is looking at bolstering its xCloud service with a TV streaming stick. He also talked about how different plans on Xbox Game Pass could come with a TV stick for xCloud games. Spencer also went on say that, “I think you’re going to see lower-priced hardware as part of our ecosystem when you think about streaming sticks and other things that somebody might want to just go plug into their TV and go play via xCloud. You could imagine us even having something that we just included in the Game Pass subscription that gave you an ability to stream xCloud games to your television and buying the controller.”

xCloud could come with a TV streaming stick

So, what’s the deal with this TV streaming stick? Well, from what we can tell, it looks like the TV stick will connect to xCloud and allow you to stream games straight to your TV. You’ll need a controller to play these games, of course. As internet connections get better over time, the idea of games streaming service sounds more plausible. After all, Stadia fell flat on its face when it was released as it did not work as intended. Hopefully, this TV stick from Microsoft will do the trick.

In fact, we reported that xCloud would come as a part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, back in July. Basically, the Xbox Blog broke it all down saying, “Cloud gaming in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate means your games are no longer locked to the living room. You can connect more than ever with friends and family through gaming. And just like you do with your movie and music streaming services, when cloud gaming launches into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you can continue your game wherever you left off on any of your devices”

The phones have been tipped to launch on October 26 but there’s no official word just yet. Having said that, purported design of the Nord N10 cropped up online, earlier this week hinting that it could look similar to the OnePlus 8T that was recently launched in India.

According to two (1,2) posts by popular tipster OnLeaks, the Nord N10 is a 5G phone with a high refresh rate display while the Nord 100 takes an even more affordable approach. Both the phones take the Nord lineup further into affordable segments, however, it is not known whether these phones are going to make it to India.

OnePlus Nord N10 could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G processor with an octa-core CPU and is expected to be paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. It is expected to run on OxygenOS out-of-the-box.

The N10 leak indicates that it has a quad-camera setup on the back that consists of a primary 64MP camera, making it the first OnePlus phone to come with that sensor. The secondary camera is touted to be an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor.

The Nord N10 could come equipped with a 4,300mAh battery that may or may not support fast charging.

Netflix, YouTube, Twitch, Apple TV+ and more streaming services will be available on the PS5 on day 1

The launch of the PS5 is just around the corner and while we don't have an India launch date for the console yet, we do have a price. You can see how expensive the PS5 is in India compared to the rest of the world here. However, if you are one that uses your PS4 to binge movies and TV shows from streaming services like Netflix or Prime Video, then there is good news for you. Your favourite streaming services will be available on the PS5 on day 1.

Announcing the information, the PlayStation Blog reads, “Hi, everybody! We know that for many of you, your PlayStation console doesn’t get shut off when you’re done playing games. Entertainment like movies, TV shows, music, and gaming live streams only add to the PlayStation experience. As we continue on our road to PS5 launch, we’re pleased to announce some entertainment apps scheduled to hit the PS5 console on day one, with more apps to come in the future. ”

The apps that Sony has officially announced to be available on the PS5 at launch include Apple TV, Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, Twitch, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, MyCanal, Hulu, Peacock, and more. While some of these apps are available in India, some are not. For example, even though there is a Disney+ app for the PS4, it isn't available in India. One quick search for the Disney+ Hotstar FAQ page and we find that there is no app for Disney+ Hotstar in India.

Whether this will be the case on the PS5 as well is only something time will tell. How the apps will work on the PS5 is also highlighted in the blog. For example, Apple TV app users will not only be able to watch the content that’s a part of their subscription but also rent or purchase movies from the Apple TV app.

With Spotify, users will be able to listen to their favourite music in the background while gaming and for YouTube, in addition to watching videos, user will be able to stream their gameplay to YouTube as well.

Speaking of game streaming, the Twitch app is also there for you to follow your favourite content creators or to stream your gameplay.

The blog post goes on to say, “As we showed in our tour of the PS5 User Experience, there will be a dedicated space exclusively for media entertainment. It’s located right next to the Game home screen, so you can quickly switch between Game or Media content. Within the Media space, you’ll no longer need to download entertainment apps through PS Store — it’s all in the Media space. Creating dedicated Game and Media spaces for the PS5 user experience will make it fast and easy to switch between gaming and entertainment content whenever you want. The PS5 console also features a new Control Center that makes controlling your music easier than ever before, so you can quickly switch between channels, skip, and pause your music”.

So, it looks like users will not have to download the media streaming apps and it is possible that there is a new unique UI for the streaming services, which is why Sony didn't show it off during the PS5 UI reveal. It will be interesting to see how Sony has tweaked the media experience on the PS5.

As a part of the PS5 reveal we got to see some accessories, one of which was a media remote control. Users can power on the PS5 using the media remote and navigate and control playback. The remote also lets users adjust volume and power settings on compatible TVs. It has dedicated hotkeys for Disney+ Netflix, Spotify and YouTube.

With the addition of the media remote control and the new UI, it looks like Sony wants the PS5 to be your one-stop-shop for gaming and entertainment.

Google shuts down Google Play Music, its all YouTube Music going forward

Google has finally started pulling the plug on Google Play Music. Many users have reported that the app has become inaccessible. Google earlier said that it would shut down the service by the end of the year but it appears the shutdown has begun.

In some regions, the app is not accessible and you only have the option to migrate data to Youtube Music, while in other regions you have a warning screen. The process started in September for users in New Zealand and South Africa. Many users have been reporting seeing the same on iOS and the web app too.

Google shuts down Play Music

Google has been trying to push users onto YouTube Music but has been repeatedly been scuppered by its own inaction on creating feature parity. This has now largely been addressed with options to upload your own music and migrate existing purchases.

Users can download their library and playlist available in Google Play Music until December 2020, after which Google will delete all the user and app associated data. So if you have purchased a new song in the past few months and you do not have the content with you, it is recommended to download the songs offline or migrate it to YouTube Music.

Google shuts down Play Music

If you don’t have the option to access the app, you can click on the “Manage your data” button which will take you to the Google Play Music website allowing you to download your music library.

The YouTube Music migration tool and Google Takeout export will be available until then.

Heres Your First Look At The Uncharted Movie

The development of an Uncharted movie, based on the popular franchise of games, has been an ongoing charade for years now. After having cycled through multiple directors and cast members within that timespan, Sony Pictures finally fixated on Tom Holland to don the iconic role of Nathan Drake, under Ruben Fleischer's direction, early this year. As the filming process is now closer to being complete, we have gotten our first look at our live-action professional treasure hunter and some cool set photos.

It’s nice to meet you, I’m Nate. #uncharted pic.twitter.com/v79Mvy26iH

— Tom Holland (@TomHolland1996) October 22, 2020

The above image, shared by Tom himself, features his version of Nathan Drake in full-costume, standing atop what looks like a destroyed, ancient structure. Although there is not much to go by, you can see him sporting the distinctive henley and cargo pants combo, with leather pistol holsters on either side. Upon closer inspection, you see a fresh bullet wound on his right upper-arm, and the engraved ring hanging around his neck, which belonged to his supposed ancestor Sir Francis Drake.

Like looking into a mirror! Proud to have @TomHolland1996 continuing the Drake legacy! Absolutely smashing it! Thanks for the set visit!!@unchartedmovie pic.twitter.com/sfiFYUJVyH

— Nolan North (@nolan_north) October 22, 2020

Nolan North, the original voice actor for Nathan Drake in the Uncharted franchise of games also shared some prop images during a set visit. Excluding the obvious and heartwarming Nate-meets-Nate image, we have one that shows a jewelled sword, pierced half-way into the middle of a crypt, as if it were a key. We also have what appears to be a close-up shot of an open copy of the biography - The Life of Ferdinand Magellan, and the First Circumnavigation of the Globe written by Francis Henry Hill Guillemard in 1890. Based on that information alone, we could assume that the famous Portuguese explorer - Ferdinand Magellan's expedition and death must have some heavy implications on this film's plot.

The film is set to be a prequel to the games, serving as an origin story for Nathan Drake, and Victor Sullivan played by Mark Wallberg. It also stars Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali and Tati Gabrielle. As of now, the internet is divided on Tom’s casting, where one half is excited, while the other half claims he looks too young for the role, and that Nathan Fillion could have been a better pick, as with the Uncharted fan film that released a few years ago. Oddly enough, that short-film also dabbled with Magellan for its plot points, which is available to watch for free here.

The Uncharted movie is currently set to be released on 16 July 2021, given the pandemic does not interrupt. May fortune favour the bold.
