OnePlus Watch launch has been indefinitely delayed: Report
OnePlus has been surprisingly open about the fact that it's developing a smartwatch, to jump into the hotly growing wearables market competing with Vivo, Oppo, Realme, and of course, Apple. Company executives have confirmed that the watch is under works, and we even got an update that it's going to ready soon at the OnePlus 8T launch event. Now, reports suggest there might still be some time before the launch.
According to the report, the smartwatch project has been "indefinitely delayed", which does not sound good. The smartwatch was tipped to release in October, but tipster Max J said the OnePlus Watch announcement has been delayed without a new date.
"A few weeks ago, I announced that the OnePlus Watch would be presented in October, but according to the latest information from multiple sources, there are some changes regarding the launch... According to my information, the OnePlus Watch announcement has been postponed without any new date. Now I don’t know the reasons for this step, but my guess is that there are some complications with production or software development," the tipster wrote.
By the looks of it, the OnePlus Watch may have run into issues in production or software development, which is why there is no new date for the launch. At least till OnePlus is able to fix them. If the issues are critical and complicated, fixing them could take weeks, and with the holiday season incoming, that might mean the watch may ultimately be launched next year.
Previous reports around the OnePlus Watch shows the shape and design is inspired heavily by the Vivo Watch that launched in China earlier this year. There are also rumours that it will use the latest Snapdragon 4100 Wear Platform, but nothing much outside of that.
OnePlus has been aggressively expanding beyond smartphones. After dabbling with flagships for the better part of its existence, the company expanded into earphones, and now a TWS. The company also has three smartTVs in its portfolio and three budget smartphones for the global market. The OnePlus Watch sounds quite logical for a company that now aspires to cater to more niches in consumer electronics.
