Call of Duty: Mobile Season 12 Going Dark update: Everything you need to know

Call of Duty: Mobile’s Season 12 update has arrived. The new update is called ‘Going Dark’ and as expected, it introduces Night Mode to matches and tasks players with relying on Night Vision Devices (also known as Night Observation Devices) to make their way around. Besides this, the update also adds new weapons, Operator Skill and Battle Royale class and more.

New Map

As teased before, Call of Duty: Mobile has got the new Hackney Yard map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The new map features an urban warehouse setting and is said to offer something for all players, regardless of their weapon preference. Interestingly, the new map is one of the few that currently offer a night mode. Speaking of which...

Night Mode

The much anticipated night mode has finally made its way to Call of Duty: Mobile. The mode is only available for three maps right now. Namely, the above mentioned Hackney Yard, Summit and Crash. As of now, there is no word if the mode will be available in Battle Royale mode or if new maps will be added in the future. But we do know that Attack of the Undead mode will be added soon.

New weapons

The new season also brings with it two new weapons. The first is a new SMG called the AGR 556. It’s said to be a balanced weapon that can be used in a multitude of situations. Interestingly, the weapons come with a unique attachment called the 5.56 ammo type that improves the weapon’s range and damage output. The weapon will be available for all players who manage to reach tier 21 in the battle pass.

The other weapon is the .50 GS pistol. This secondary weapon will be available after November 26 via the Small Arms event. The weapon offers a high damage output, but at a very slow rate of fire. It should be noted that the Akimbo perk will be available for the weapon, so players can wield two of them at the same time.

New Operator Skill

The Ballistic Shield Operator Skill is available to all players once they reach tier 14 in the season’s battle pass. As the name would suggest, the Ballistic Shield gives players a portable bulletproof shield. The shield also comes with a small pre-attached weapon that can be used to attack enemies.

Of course, the update also comes with a bunch of fixes, improvements as well as new characters and skins. There is also a new Perk called 'Launcher+' that lets players carry an extra rocket for the SMRS or the FHJ-18 rocket launchers. You can learn more about those here.

Apple MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini with Apple M1 chip Indian price and availability

Apple announced their new M1 SoC for Macs last night and have already made the chip available in their three most popular products, the MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro and the Mac Mini. The M1 chip is a huge leap towards Apple being a self-reliant company, how manufacturing both the hardware and software that powers the mac. If you’ve been eagerly waiting for the release of this new hardware, here’s what you can buy in India and when.

MacBook Air Specifications and India Price

Kicking things off with the most popular thin and light laptop in the world, the MacBook Air is now powered by the M1 chip. The Apple India webstore currently lists the MacBook Air at a starting price of Rs 92,900. For this money, you get the M1 chip with 8-core CPU and only 7 of the 8 GPU cores enabled. Additionally, you get 8GB DDR4 memory and a 256GB storage module, all baked in. If you want more memory, a 16GB upgrade would cost you an additional Rs 20,000, and jumping from the 256GB storage to the 512GB tier would be another Rs 20,000. You can even choose 1TB or 2TB storage options, but each of those will cost you an additional Rs 40,000 and Rs 80,000 respectively. The new MacBook Air can be pre-ordered right now from Apple’s online store in India, with an estimated ship date being between November 25 and Dec 1. If you’re a student, then the pricing on the base mode of the MacBook Air is a little lower.

The new MacBook Air with the M1 SoC is up for order on Apple India website, and is expected to ship by December 1

Mac Mini Specifications and India Price

The “barely there” desktop from Apple is now infused with the company’s own silicon, the M1 chip. The base variant which starts at Rs 64,900 comes with all 8 GPU cores enabled, along with 8GB DDR4 memory baked in. the storage on this unit is 256GB and bumping it up to 512GB will cost you another Rs 20,000, as would the 16GB RAM upgrade. The Mac Mini is currently listed with three configurations, two running on the M1 chip and one running on an 8th generation Intel Core i5 processor. If you order the Mac Mini today from Apple’s India store, the ship time is mentioned to be 2-3 weeks, putting the delivery between November 25 and December 1.

The Mac Mini is now powered by Apple's 5nm-based M1 SoC

MacBook Pro 13-inch Specifications and India Price

In the days leading up to the announcement of the Apple Silicon, there were rumours around whether Apple will announce a Pro machine with the new chip, and if they did, which one would it be. Turns out, the 13-inch MacBook Pro is now M1 powered, with the base variant with all 8 CPU and GPU cores enabled, coming in at Rs 1,22,900. This gets you the same 8GB DDR4 memory and 256GB storage, with a bump up to the next spec costing you Rs 20,000. The ship date for the MacBook Pro 13-inch is also set within the same November 25-December 1. The new MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM could go toe-to-toe with the 16-inch MacBook Pro, if Apple's claims are to be believed.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 chip features 8GB DDR4 memory and 256GB torage on the base variant

What is interesting is that Apple has packed the same chip with the same performance capabilities, same 8GB DDR4 memory and the same 256GB storage module. This prompts the question, why may more for a MacBook Pro in comparison to the Air? Well for starters, the MacBook Air has a fanless design while the MacBook Pro features an active cooling system to keep things cool and running at full power while you’re editing your 4K video in FCP. Reviews of the new Apple Silicon Macs are still awaited, but given the kind of performance we’ve seen on the iPhone and the iPad Pro and even the new iPad Air, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to see Apple pull off something spectacular with the M1 chip as well.

Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar and other OTT platforms will now be regulated by the Indian government

If television was not censored enough, we’re now going to have to deal with OTT platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar being under the watchful eye of the Indian government. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will now have control over and regulate all content from online platforms. This also includes news and current affairs content that is currently online. The amendment was signed by President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday. The Union Ministry will now be the regulatory body in charge of content on OTT platforms.

This move comes after the fact that there was no regulatory body for OTT platforms in India yet. Why we need one is another question for another day, but for now, that seems to be the consensus as to why this amendment was passed. In India, The Press Council of India regulates print media while the News broadcasters Association regulates TV channels and so on and so forth. In regard to online media and content, there was no such body. Back in January 2019, we reported that Netflix and eight other OTT players signed a self-Regulatory Code, which is meant for the regulation of content and not censoring it. The code was signed by content providers under the backing of IAMAI. Well, that clearly is not in play right now with the Indian government now lording over online content.

In an earlier statement to the Indian Express, Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar had stated that OTT platforms had not come up with a ‘credible self-regulation method or proposal’. This could also have been a factor on the Indian government coming down on OTT platforms.

We reached out the Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+Hotstar for a statement, and we will update this article as and when they respond.

Whatever the case may be, if regulation on Indian television is any metric to go by, you can kiss all that uncensored content on Netflix, Prime Video and the like goodbye.

Sony expects PS4 to PS5 transition to take about three years

Sony is looking at forward compatibility to bring more PS5 games to the PS4. The information comes from Sony Interactive Entertainment Vice President Hideaki Nishino. In an interview with AV Watch (translated by tweaktown) Hideaki Nishino says, “In terms of compatibility, it is important to move PS4 titles on PS5, but I have insisted that forward compatibility (supplying the same titles as PS5 to PS4) is important.” He goes on to say that “the transition from PS4 to PS5 will take about three years. In the meantime, how can I keep buying games on PS4? Can the purchased games be played on PS5? That is important."

The above statement is a bit of a departure from what Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan said at the beginning of 2020. He talked about generations and not being held back by the limitations of the outgoing console. However, it looks like Sony is changing that stance and is looking to keep PS4 users happy that aren't ready to move on to the PS5 just yet.

While games like Spider-Man Miles Morales (review) and Horizon Forbidden West will launch on the PS4 as well as the PS5, other games like Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and Demon Souls Remake will be exclusive to the PS5. So, while we will see some games launch on the PS4 to keep fans of the console happy before they decide to invest in new hardware, there will also be games exclusive to the next-gen as an incentive to move forward. How Sony will strike the right balance in this regard remains to be seen.

The PS5 is backwards compatible with the PS4 and a lot of games are getting a free upgrade to the PS5. This means that if you purchase a game on the PS4 and there is a PS5 version available, then you will be upgraded to that version of the game for free when you get your new console.

Microsoft has been helming this approach from the start stating that there will be no Series X/S exclusive games in the first year of the Xbox Series console launch. While there are third-party exclusives like the Medium for the Xbox Series S/X, there will be no first-party exclusives for some time making the transition easy for those that want to wait before getting the new console.

The lingering question remained whether developing for old hardware would mean the developers would be held back in some way, and that doesn’t seem to be the case to some extent. Spider-Man Miles Morales is a great example of this. While the game looks stunning on the PS4, it takes advantage of the PS5 SSD for load times, features like ray-tracing and also has a 60fps mode. So, it will be interesting to see how cross-gen games look going forward. It also brings to mind the question as to which games will be launching on the PS4 in 2021. Will we see God of War: Ragnarök come to PS4 as well?
