MeitY releases Aaroya Setus backend code to enhance transparency

The Government of India’s Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology has released the backend code of the Aarogya Setu app. The code is now available to everyone at the Open Forge website here. In its press release, the government notes that Open Forge was developed by the Indian government to promote sharing and resume of e-governence application source code. Through this move, the government aims to promote collaborative development between its departments and private organizations, citizens and developers. It hopes that this will spur the creation of “innovative e-governance applications and services.”

The release shared by the government stated, “With regard to Aarogya Setu App, it has been the endeavour of the Government to share all information relating to it. The source code of the Android and iOS versions were released earlier and the backend source code is also being released as per the policy of Government of India to share all code repositories with developer community.”

This move should ensure a greater degree of transparency with regards to the Aarogya Setu app. The app was launched back in April this year with the aim of tracing COVID-19 cases. However, many have voiced their concerns regarding the privacy offered by the app. A few weeks ago, the Central Information Commission (CIC) issued a show-cause notice to concerned Chief Public Information Officers (CPIOs), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National Informatics Centre (NIC) on Tuesday. The notice sent is for "prima facie obstruction of information and providing an evasive reply" on an RTI application related to Aarogya Setu App. As it turned out, none of the CPIOs were able to explain who created the application. In the same press release, the government notes that the Aarogya Setu app was downloaded by over 16.43 Crore users.

Call of Duty: Mobile Knights Divided event: Everything you need to know

Call of Duty: Mobile’s new Knights Divided Event is finally live. The event was being teased for quite a while and now it's finally here. This event tasks players with picking a side and then earning points to get rewards. This includes epic weapons, skins, charms, characters and more.

Format

The event will go on for 15 days and players will have to choose between Red Team and Blue Team. Once a side is picked, players will not be able to switch. Each side has their own unique set of rewards, but the differences are purely cosmetic and is usually a colour difference. For example, While the Blue Team can earn the Sapphire version of the Razorback SMG, the Red team can earn the Ruby version of the same weapon.

The general idea behind the event is that every 24 hours, a new territory will surface. Each territory will have a certain task associated with it. Players can cake on these tasks to earn points for their faction. The faction with the most pints when a territory closes will claim that particular territory. Each player and faction will receive various rewards through leaderboards, milestones, and through which-ever faction wins at the end.

Rewards

As mentioned above, players will have a chance to earn epic items like the aforementioned Razorback SMG, Locus - Schism, Elite PMC (Ultramarine or Red Curtain) as well as a bunch of other weapon skins, charms, frames and calling cards.

Of course, Call of Duty: Mobile's Season 12 update is still going strong. To know more about that, check out our round up here.

OnePlus introduces Charging Stations feature in India: Heres how it works

OnePlus has introduced Charging Stations feature for users in India. With this, OnePlus users will be notified on their phone when they come in the vicinity of a OnePlus Charging Station. The company has launched fast-charging stations at the Bangalore airport and will bring it to the Delhi airport soon.

“This convenient new service on your phone will notify you of the nearby OnePlus charging stations at the airport. Not just that, you can also track the station and the distance to the closest ones. With the help of beacons integrated into the charging stations, your OnePlus device identifies charging stations nearby. You can mute them anytime if you're stuck in the long halts at the airports,” OnePlus said in a forum post.

How does OnePlus Charging Station feature works?

The Charging Station feature on OnePlus phones will notify users of any nearby OnePlus Charging Stations at the airport. The feature will also let users track the station and get more details like the distance to the closest charging station and more. The charging stations installed by OnePlus at airports are equipped with beacons that OnePlus devices are able to identify and notify users. These stations offer Warp Charge 30 fast charging through USB ports.

The new feature has been released through an update that the user can choose to enable. The Charging Stations feature allows users to quickly spot a OnePlus Charging Station at the airport or set course for it if far away. The notifications can also be muted for upto 24 hours.

The Charging Station feature is being rolled out incrementally to the OnePlus 8 series, OnePlus 7 series and OnePlus Nord range of smartphones. The company has also teased that it will be available for users of the OnePlus 6 in the coming weeks.

A closer look at Apples sensor-shift stabilization in the new iPhone 12 Pro Max

Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max features a 47% larger sensor and has a new sensor-shift optical image stabilization feature that has been revealed in a teardown video. The iPhone 12 Pro Max was launched alongside the iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini in October and have recently gone on sale in India and other countries.

According to a teardown video of the iPhone 12 Pro Max by popular YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, the sensor on the phone is indeed larger than the iPhone 12 Pro. The video also gives us a closer look at how the new sensor-shift stabilization technology works on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. With the new technology, the camera sensor on the phone is essentially movable on its axis offering better stabilization and something found on DSLR cameras.

The new sensor-shift image stabilization feature also helps during photography in low-light conditions as the bigger sensor on the iPhone 12 Pro Max is able to handle light better. As shown in the video, the primary camera of the iPhone 12 Pro Max has the sensor-shift technology where the sensor is able to move along its axis with the help of magnets placed on the four corners of the sensor. Halide developer Sebastian De also released a visual image to depict that increase of the sensor size in the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Apple has claimed that the new sensor-shift image stabilization technology is capable of stabilizing an image at more than 5,000 times in one second which is a great improvement over the current rate of 1,000 times offered by the regular optical image stabilization system. It also gives the camera higher ISO sensitivity over 87%. The telephoto lens on the iPhone 12 Pro Max offers a 65mm focal length in comparison to the iPhone 12 Pro’s 52mm.

Apple has also added support for ProRAW which is a RAW file captured by the camera but with all the tonal adjustments applied and without losing any other details. Then there’s the LiDAR scanner that offers the ability to measure light distance and assists in AR-based features. All of this is powered by the A14 Bionic processor that makes it a true pro-grade smartphone.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,29,900 for the 128GB base variant in India followed by the 256GB variant at Rs 1,39,900 and the maxed-out 512GB storage variant at Rs 1,59,900. It is being offered in four colours-- Graphite, Silver, Gold and Pacific Blue, to choose from.
