OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro design renders surface online yet again

New renders of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro have surfaced online yet again, giving us a glimpse of the upcoming successors to the OnePlus 8 series. There are several reports hinting at the possibility of an early launch of the OnePlus 9 series in March 2021. The OnePlus 8T was launched on October 14 but rumours and speculations around OnePlus 9 are starting to take shape now.

According to a report by LetsGoDigital in collaboration with Concept Creator that reveals the new renders of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, we can see the two phones carry forward the rectangular camera module that debuted on the 8T. The curves on the side are seemingly more pronounced in the new renders while the OnePlus 9 is said to feature a flat-screen like the 8T.

Recently, popular tipster OnLeaks posted the CAD renders of the alleged OnePlus 9 Pro that gave us a glimpse of the Pro variant in the OnePlus 9 series. However, shortly afterwards, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau sent out a tweet stating that “No design is ever set in stone. Because if it were, it wouldn't be a very lightweight smartphone.”

The phone is expected to feature a quad-camera setup as has been indicated by the renders. The OnePlus 9 is also expected to feature a bigger display than the OnePlus 8T that could have 120Hz refresh rate.

The OnePlus 9 is likely to come powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 processor and could also bring 65W fast charging along with the flat-display. Qualcomm will announce its latest flagship processor at an event on December 1.

Another report has allegedly revealed the camera details of the OnePlus 9 and the phone is expected to have a triple camera setup on the back. The OnePlus 9 is rumoured to have a 48MP primary camera with a 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a macro or monochrome sensor. As for the OnePlus 9 Pro, it is expected to feature a quad-camera setup on the back with both phones supporting 120Hz refresh rates.

OnePlus 9 series leaked specifications

OnePlus 9 is expected to feature a 6.55-inch display while the OnePlus 9 Pro is rumoured to come with a 6.7-inch screen. Moreover, there are rumours that the screen supports 120Hz refresh rate and not 144Hz as was speculated previously.

OnePlus 9 series is rumoured to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 processor that’s due out in December. The leak indicates that the upcoming phones in the series could have IP68 certification, NFC and dual stereo speakers. The company could also provide the same 65W fast charging that it debuted with the OnePlus 8T in October along with support for 40W fast wireless charging.

Apple now offering a 5 month free Apple Music subscription to new users

If you’ve ever wanted to subscribe to Apple Music, this is probably a really good time to do so as Apple is now giving new Apple Music users a free subscription for 5 months through Shazam. This is essentially a part of Apple’s special holiday offer and will be available for users in Canada, Australian The US, a few other countries and finally, India. Do note that the offer is valid till 17 January, 2021.

To avail the offer all you have to do is download Shazam and use the app to identify a song which will then direct you to Apple Music where you can apply for the offer. Again, this is only available to new users. Current and existing users of Apple Music cannot avail this offer. This comes as no surprise as the holiday season is upon us and there will be other offers coming up as well.

Apple purchased Shazam in 2017 and folded the music identifying app into its own ecosystem. The standard offer for new users on Apple Music is a three-month trial period and have even created a new ‘Stream Local’ initiative to support Indian Music artists. You can read more about that here.

Moto G 5G vs OnePlus Nord: Snapdragon 750G vs 765G compared

Moto G 5G has just launched in India as an affordable 5G smartphone in the mid-range segment. While Indian telecom companies are yet to deploy a 5G network, there is no scarcity of phones supporting 5G connectivity in India. However, 5G as a feature was commonly seen on phones in the high-end and premium segment until the launch of Moto G 5G.

With the Moto G 5G, the company has launched the device at Rs 20,999 in India, making it the most affordable 5G smartphone available in the country. At the price, it goes up against the OnePlus Nord which is its closest 5G competitor starting at Rs 24,999. So how does the Moto G 5G stand against the OnePlus Nord? We find out in this specification based comparison of the Moto G 5G and OnePlus Nord.

Moto G 5G vs OnePlus Nord: pricing and availability

The Moto G 5G is priced at Rs 20,999 in India for the sole 6GB+128GB option and will sell online on Flipkart.

The OnePlus Nord starts at Rs 24,999 for the base 6GB+64GB variant, Rs 27,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant and Rs 29,999 for the 8GB+256GB storage option. The phone can be purchased from Amazon India and OnePlus India store.

Moto G 5G vs OnePlus Nord: Design and Display

The Moto G 5G has a plastic build with a squircle camera module on the back while the OnePlus Nord uses Gorilla Glass 5 on the back and a plastic frame. The Moto G is also tad a bit thicker and heftier than the Nord due to the bigger display and battery. It measures 9.9 millimetres in thickness and weighs 212 grams while the Nord is 8.2 millimetres thin weighing in at 184 grams.

The display is where things get interesting for a bit as the Moto G offers a larger 6.7-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution display that uses an LCD panel and is certified for HDR10 playback.

On the other hand, you get an AMOLED screen on the Nord that measures 6.44-inch and supports 90Hz high refresh rate along with HDR10+ playback. Additionally, the screen on the Nord is topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 which is something the Moto G doesn’t offer.

Moreover, when choosing between the two, it often boils down to the personal preference of either going with a larger screen or slightly smaller display that supports a 90Hz refresh rate.

Moto G 5G vs OnePlus Nord: Under the hood

Moto G 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor that is fabricated on an 8nm process and brings 5G support to the mid-range segment. The Snapdragon 750G has an octa-core processor with two prime cores running at 2.2GHz and six power-efficient cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The GPU on board is the Adreno 619.

On the OnePlus Nord, we get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor that is fabbed using a smaller 7nm process and Adreno 620 GPU. There is an octa-core CPU on board that features two performance cores clocked at 2.4GHz and 2.2GHz respectively along with six power-efficient cores running at 1.8GHz.

The Moto G 5G is the first phone with the Snapdragon 750G to arrive in India and it will be interesting to see how it fares in benchmarks and real-world usage against the OnePlus Nord. The Snapdragon 750G uses Kryo 570 cores which is also used on the Snapdragon 865. This was the reason why Geekbench scores of Snapdragon 750G reported earlier seemed better than those of the Snapdragon 765G. Having said that, we will be conducting our own independent tests to see whether the Moto G 5G is able to hold its fort against the OnePlus Nord.

Moto G 5G runs on Android 10 with a light skin featuring some customisations while the OnePlus Nord brings in the same OxygenOS 10 experience that is found in its premium phones.

With the Moto G 5G, users also have an option to expand the storage further by adding a microSD card of upto 1TB. The Nord does not offer such support. Other than that, both the phones have the same set of connectivity features including Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi and USB Type-C.

The ‘batwing’ logo on the Moto G 5G doubles up as a fingerprint reader while the Nord offers an in-screen fingerprint reader.

Moto G 5G vs OnePlus Nord: Cameras

Moto G 5G has a triple camera setup on the back that consists of a primary 48MP camera with an f/1.7 aperture, a secondary 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 118-degree field-of-view and a 2MP macro camera.

On the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera housed within the punch hole cutout in the centre. The rear cameras can record in 4K at 30FPS and supports EIS.

As for the Nord, it offers a quad-camera setup on the back that has a primary 48MP camera with f/1.8 aperture and OIS support, a secondary 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 119-degree field-of-view, a 5MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro camera.

The OnePlus Nord has two selfie cameras on the front, a primary 32MP camera and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 105-degree field-of-view. The rear cameras can record in 4K at 30FPS with support for OIS and EIS.

We will be testing the camera on the Moto G 5G in detail before drawing conclusions based on the spec-sheet.

Moto G 5G vs OnePlus Nord: Battery

The Moto G 5G is powered by a large 5,000mAh battery that supports 20W fast charging. The Nord, on the other hand, offers a 4,115mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging.

Here again, the choice is between going for a larger battery phone or a phone with a slightly smaller battery but fast charging support that offers faster recharge times as compared to normal speeds.

FAU-G is up for pre-registration on Google Play Store

nCore games have announced that it has opened pre-registrations for FAU-G: Fearless and United Guards. Those interested can pre-register for the game on the Google Play Store here. This development comes just a few days after Google effectively purged all fake FAU-G clones looking to cash in on the game’s hype. To recall, the game was announced by Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar. The developers released a trailer in October, where they promised to launch the game by the end of November. It is not yet known when exactly the game will be made available for download. Those who choose to pre-register can choose to be notified when the game will be available for download, or download the game automatically the moment it becomes available.

On the auspicious occasion of Gurupurab, we are starting the pre-registrations of FAU-G: Fearless And United Guards. Pre-register and be the first to play the game. #FAUG #BeFearless Pre-registration link: https://ift.tt/37r6VLA @akshaykumar #happygurupurab

The appearance of the game on the Google Play Store also gives us a deeper understanding of what the game is going to be about. This includes the description of the game, its age rating as well as a screenshot in particular which seems to show the game’s main menu.

The game’s description is pretty much what we know already about the game's setting. It reads, “Join a special unit of FAU-G commandos on patrol in dangerous border territory. Come face-to-face with India’s enemies as you engage with hostile invaders on Indian soil. Fight for survival against the unforgiving terrain and the implacable enemy. Fill the shoes of a patriotic soldier and experience the bravery, brotherhood, and sacrifice of the men guarding the country’s borders.”

The FAU-G’s listing also confirms that it features in-game purchases. It should be noted that the company will be donating 20% of the net revenue generated to the Bharat Ke Veer Trust. Further, the game is listed for those who are at least 16-years-old.

Finally, the screenshot of the main menu also gives us a little insight into what the game will offer at launch. At the centre is presumably our in-game avatar, who is holding what seems to be an improvised axe that seems to be a part of a bicycle case attached to a bit of wood. This, combined with the other artwork, suggests that the game will not feature weapons and will have a focus on melee combat. Further, in the top right corner of the screen, we see two sets of in-game currency. We can speculate that one will be the free currency that players get for free, while the other is a premium currency that players will have to pay for. At the bottom left is the store where players will be able to make in-game purchases. At the top left, we can either see the player level status or the map selection screen, we don’t know for sure yet. At the bottom right is the button to start playing.

It should be noted that the minimum requirements for the game is not yet known as that section only notes that it varies for each device.
