Xiaomi Redmi 9 Power design leaked ahead of launch in India on December 17

Xiaomi Redmi 9 Power is set to launch on December 17 in India and a new leak has revealed the design of the upcoming phone. Xiaomi has been teasing the Redmi 9 Power from quite some time now across its social media handles and on its dedicated microsite. The Redmi 9 Power is rumoured to be based on the Redmi Note 9 4G that was launched in November in China alongside the Redmi Note 9 5G and Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G.

As per an image leaked by 91Mobiles in collaboration with Ishan Agarwal, the Redmi 9 Power is slated to feature quad cameras on the back. The design is very much in line with the Redmi Note 9 4G except the fourth camera. This is rumoured to be a macro camera

Exclusive: This is how the camera setup for Redmi 9 Power [India] looks like. Just one more lens compared to the Redmi Note 9 4G. Will have the same big Redmi branding like the Chinese model. Launch on December 17. Please credit, Link: https://t.co/KHZhRWITvQ pic.twitter.com/LX9jBA0Vjz

Moreover, the phone is set to available in four colourways-- black, blue, red and green. The leaked image gives us a glimpse of the blue colour variant of the Redmi 9 Power that has a textured finish with a vertical camera array in the top-left corner.

The Redmi 9 Power is scheduled to launch a day after the company unveils its Mi QLED TV in India. Another report reveals that Xiaomi might be planning to launch the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G in India as the Mi 10i, as the latter was spotted in a Geekbench listing. If the fourth camera does turn out to be macro while the rest of the specifications remain identical to the Redmi Note 9 4G, here’s what to expect from the upcoming Redmi 9 Power.

Xiaomi Redmi 9 Power expected specifications

Xiaomi Redmi 9 Power design leaked

The Redmi 9 Power could likely feature the same 6.53-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution display as the Redmi Note 9 4G. The screen has a waterdrop notch for the selfie camera and is topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is expected to have a new design with the brand’s name slapped on the back panel. The phone measures 9.6 millimetres and weighs 198 grams.

The Redmi 9 Power is confirmed to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and it is likely the Snapdragon 662 under the hood. The chipset has an octa-core CPU, Adreno 610 GPU and is paired with upto 8GB RAM and 256GB storage options. The storage is also expandable by adding a microSD card and it runs on MIUI 12 out-of-the-box.

The phone has a quad-camera setup on the back with a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, 2MP depth sensor and a macro camera. On the front, there is an 8MP selfie camera housed within the waterdrop notch.

The Redmi 9 Power is expected to arrive with 6,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

Concept video shows off Xiaomis ambitious rollable smartphone render

After LG and Oppo, now Xiaomi looks like it's working on a smartphone with a rollable display. A patent filed by Xiaomi last year hinted that the company might start its rollable smartphone project soon. This design patent surfaced on both USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) and WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office). We don't have an update on the progress yet, but the patent has now been used by Jermaine Smit (aka Concept Creator on YouTube) in partnership with Letsgodigital to make a set of renders that shows the concept in action.

The patent shows a retractable display that can stretch sideways to take tablet form. It comes with a wraparound panel which was also seen on the Mi Mix Alpha concept, although the render looks to be a slightly better version of the technology.

In the renders, the concept is called the Mi Mix Alpha R, it looks sleek and very different from other rollable phone concepts we've seen. The display stretches from the front to the back of the phone making it an all-screen phone. Its display rolls out horizontally and extends a large area to use. The sides are completely curved, and there is even a 3.5mm headphone jack included here.

For more details, check out the video below.

Although the render of Xiaomi's phone with a wraparound display is out, note that the device still looks far from reality unless Xiaomi confirms it. We do not know when the phone will become a reality and how will it look. However, if we go by speculations, the phone may become a reality in the first half of 2021.

As we mentioned, Oppo has also shown off its concept rollable smartphone recently, called the Oppo X 2021. While it won't be available commercially anytime soon, it is a working model, which technically makes it the first working rollable smartphone in the world.

Apart from Oppo, LG is also expected to announce its rollable smartphone in the first half of 2021 and it's said to go on sale before Oppo's offering. None of the developments come with concrete proof, but what's confirmed is that rollable smartphones are coming in 2021.
