Johnny Silverhands bionic arm from Cyberpunk 2077 is becoming a real-world prosthetic arm
Limbitless a non-profit has teamed up with CD Projekt Red and Xbox to create a real-life version of the bionic arm that belongs to Johnny Silverhand, who is played by Keanu Reeves in the recently launched Cyberpunk 2077.
According to Xbox Wire, the Johnny Silverhand themed prosthetic arms will be donated to adults in the upcoming clinical trials starting in 2021. In a behind the scenes video, Xbox shows how Limbitless Solutions crafted the arm and gave a brief about their functionality.
Limbitless is a non-profit organization that uses 3D printing to create prosthetic arms for children and adults that are more affordable and accessible to patients who need them. In 2015 the company collaborated with Robert Downey Jr. to present a fan with an Iron Man themed prosthetic limb, and similarly, in 2018 they teamed up with 343 Industries to present Halo themed prosthetics.
“We bring a lot of human expression to our prosthetics, and that helps people navigate their life a little better,” Remy Marasa of Limbitless Solutions explains in the video. “It’s an awesome feeling to know that you can play a video game, be inspired by the character, love every part of it, and also get to, kind of, be that character when you wear one of these arms,” concluded Marasa in the video.
Limbitless isn’t the only company making video game themed prosthetics. Open Bionics, recently teamed up with Konami to create a bionic arm based on Metal Gear Solid V for a UK-based gamer who was born without a hand.
Cyberpunk 2077 has officially launched and is playable across 9 platforms - the PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One X, PC, Stadia, and the next-gen consoles - the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. While the game has bugs in general, it is suffering from some serious performance issues on the PS4 and Xbox One. You can learn about the performance issues here. Oppos futuristic slide-phone is as small as a credit card when folded
Oppo has showcased its concept slide-phone that gives us a glimpse at a unique form-factor of a foldable phone. The Chinese manufacturer has collaborated with Japanese design studio Nendo and unveiled the slide-phone alongside the music-link devices. Oppo is yet to launch its first commercial foldable phone but it has been making strides in the segment after it revealed the Oppo X 2021 rollable concept smartphone at the Inno Day 2020 in November.
Oppo slide-phone arrives with an aim to offer multiple screen-sizes to users and is an attempt to curb the smartphone trend that pushes manufacturers towards making large-screen phones. The slide-phone has a triple-hinge foldable screen system and resembles a credit card as it measures 3.3-inch by 2.1-inch when folded entirely.
Oppo’s slide-phone can fold three times over thanks to its three-hinge system. The first fold reveals a 1.5-inch display that shows basic details like time and weather updates, offers music playback and also a glance at notifications. The second fold further reveals a 3.1-inch screen and moves the camera module further up top. Oppo says that this size is perfect for using the front-facing camera for video calls, taking selfies and more. The final fold lays bare a 7-inch extended screen with narrow bezels across all sides.
The phone is also equipped with a stylus for complex tasks enhancing its productivity features or simply to act as a digital notepad. Its hinges are covered in suede leather to protect it from direct exposure while the rest of the phone has multiple colour tones. Oppo also revealed a wireless charging stand that has been optimized for the concept’s foldable form factor.
Oppo also revealed a collection of music-link devices that has been conceptualized with Nendo and includes TWS earphones, smartwatch, AI speaker, portable charger and a wireless charger. These devices have a minimal design and work in tandem with each other for seamless connectivity. For instance, the TWS earphones can be placed onto the AI speaker and the music playback with be transitioned to the speaker from the earphones.
Additionally, the earphones feature earbuds that fit together in an oval design and can be stored in a carrying case that doubles up as a wireless charger. The carrying case can be further slotted on a power bank or the AI speaker. Oppo also gave us a glimpse at a smartwatch that has an oval design with silicone straps.
The Oppo slide-phone and the music-link devices are concepts right now and there is no word on when we will be able to see them as commercial devices. Having said that, this does put a spotlight on Oppo’s aesthetic looking product design and the direction it is heading with foldable technology. The company also unveiled its rollable concept smartphone in November that it is calling Oppo X 2021. You can read more about that here.

Hisense Announces Tornado 4K TV with JBL speakers and 102W sound output
Hisense has announced a new TV in their portfolio for India. The Hisense Tornado (A73 series) will be available in 55 and 65-inch screen sizes and will be made in India. The 55-inch variant of the TV will be available starting December 24 while the 65-inch variant will be available Q1 2021.
“The insights of a detailed consumer research showed that the Indian consumer seems to be dissatisfied with the sound quality of LED TVs. Crystal clear sound and slim LED TVs never go hand-in-hand thus making the consumer want to connect external audio devices for a better sound experience. This is why Hisense has stepped in to exclusively satisfy the Indian market with our Tornado 4K Series that perfectly balances stylish design and pure, powerful sound. We have partnered with the JBL 6 Speaker System to deliver unbelievably clear sound,” said Mr Rishi Tandon, COO Hisense India.
Hisense Tornado A73 4K HDR TV specifications and featuresComing to the features and specifications of the Hisense Tornado (A73), as we mentioned above, the TV will be available in 55 and 65-inch screen sizes. The TV will support a 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) along with support for HDR 10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
The unique thing about the Hisense Tornado TV is the sound output from the TV. The TV brings with it 6 speakers 4 full-range drivers and 2 high-frequency drivers. This gives the TV a sound output of 102W. The speakers on the TV are powered by JBL. Despite the large sound from the TV, it appears as though the TV has a relatively slim profile. It will be interesting to see how the audio technology has been implemented on the TV. While we have seen Nokia TVs power by JBL sound (review) and the recently launched Nokia TV with Onkyo sound, we have also seen the OnePlus Q1 launched in 2019 feature a retractable soundbar.
Coming to some of the other features of the Hisense Tornado, the TV features Ultra Dimming technology and it runs on Android TV 9 out of the box. With Android TV, you get access to the Google Play Store along with accesso to popular streaming services. The TV also comes with a voice-enabled remote control.
We had a chance to review the Hisense A71F a while back. We reviewed the 55-inch variant of the TV and you can check out our review here. In other news, it looks like Xiaomi is working on a made in India QLED TV. You can learn the details of the TV here.

Apple iPad 9th Gen rumoured to have a bigger display and a cheaper starting price
Apple is rumoured to launch the iPad 8th Gen's (launched in 2020) successor early next year. A new leak claims that Apple will be selling the next iteration of its entry-level iPad at a cheaper price than the current model. The iPad 8th Gen starts at $329 in the US and Rs 29,900 in India.
As per a tweet from leaker Tron (@cozyplanes), next year's iPad will have a larger 10.5-inch display with Touch ID embedded in the home button at the bottom. Apple A13 Bionic chipset will power it, the chipset found on iPhone 11 series, with 4GB of RAM. He also mentions that the new iPad will be thinner, lighter and more affordable at $299 (approx. Rs 22,000), $30 cheaper than the 2020 model.
10.5" iPad with A13 chip coming early 2021 - 10.5" Retina display - A13 Bionic chip - 4GB RAM - thinner, lighter design - Home button w/ Touch ID - Starting at $299
— Tron (@cozyplanes) December 13, 2020While the design is rumoured to be thin and light, it's safe to assume that it could have thick bezels like the existing model as it's rumoured to have the home button. The 2020 model is available in two variants – 32GB and 128GB. In India iPad 8th Gen starts at Rs 29,900 for the 32GB variant with Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi + Cellular model starts from Rs 41,900. So, the $299 price tag likely for a 32GB Wi-Fi variant.
A few features that are not leaked but are an easy guess include support for Apple Pencil, Smart Keyboard and other iPad accessories. An LTE variant for 4G SIM cards should also be on the cards.
If the leak turns out to be accurate, the major upgrades in the upcoming iPad will be a 0.3-inch bigger screen, a more powerful and power-efficient A13 Bionic chipset, a slimmer and lighter form factor. The iPad 8th Gen 2020 was launched in September 2020 alongside the new iPad Air. So, it's too early to jump at conclusions, and we advise you to take these details with a pinch of salt.
The iPad 8th Gen has got fair reviews, and if the leaks are accurate, the next generation might make things even better for consumers. All of the above-mentioned features at a lesser price would make for a good deal.
