According to the latest leak by 91Mobiles, Lava could introduce as many as four new phones priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 20,000 on January 7. Micromax recently made its comeback in the Indian smartphone market with the In Note 1 and In 1b to take on the bestselling phones in the respective segments from companies like Xiaomi, Realme and more. This falls in line with earlier reports that said Lava Mobiles would announce four new phones in January, however, the exact specifications of these upcoming phones are currently not known.

Lava also hosted a Design in India Challenge in July, earlier this year where students and design professionals were tasked with making a prototype of a phone under the Make in India initiative of the government. We could likely see a “Designed in India” smartphone released by Lava at the upcoming launch in January.

Lava BeU was recently launched as the entry-level smartphone in India featuring a 6.08-inch HD+ display with 2.5D curved glass along with a u-shaped notch cutout for the 8MP selfie camera up front. The phone has a plastic build that measures 9.82 millimetres in thickness and weighs 175.8 grams.

It is powered by the Unisoc octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage and runs on Android 10 Go Edition out-of-the-box. The Lava BeU has a dual-camera setup on the back that consists of a primary 13MP camera with an f/1.85 aperture along with a 2MP secondary camera and LED flash. The phone supports dual SIM and is powered by the 4,060mAh battery that the company claims can provide a talk time of about 16 hours. The BeU is priced at Rs 6,888 for the sole model and will also be available in offline stores soon.

Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti with 20GB VRAM and RTX 3060 Ti with 12GB VRAM leaked

Nvidia’s new cards have created a stir in the GPU space offering higher performance at a lower price when compared to the predecessors. The entry-level RTX 3060 packs a similar performance to RTX 2080 for a fraction of the price at the time when the cards were released.

Since the announcement of the RTX 30 series cards, rumors of an Nvidia RTX 3080 with 20GB VRAM have been circulating given the gap between RTX 3080 10GB and RTX 3090 24GB cards. It seemed quite obvious that NVIDIA would fill this gap and release a card to fill the void.

Very little information has surfaced about the RTX 3080 Ti (or RTX 3080 Super) till now. As spotted by PCGamesN, a leaker named HXL had seen a data entry on the Asus support page listing two models of RTX 3080Ti 20GB cards. Additionally, the leaker had also noticed two entries for RTX 3060Ti 12GB cards. The listings from the support website have since been removed but HXL has a screenshot to corroborate his findings.

The models listed follow Asus’s naming pattern and going by it the two-card models have a difference in clock speeds as one could be running at the stock frequency and the other would have a factory overclock profile.

Given the price gap between RTX 3080 $699 (Rs 51,431 directly converted) and RTX 3090 $1,499 (Rs 1,10,293 directly converted), it was imminent that Nvidia would release a card to fill the gap between the price range. The existence of these cards is not yet confirmed. Also, these cards have not leaked anywhere else. Given the current supply issue of the Nvidia 30 series cards, we might see a paper launch of the new cards soon.

The Oppo Find X2 Pro debuted with the Sony IMX689 sensor which measures 1/1.4-inch with an f/1.7 aperture and a 7P lens arrangement. The sensor also supports PDAF, Dual Native ISO, 12-bit capture and helped improve features like night mode, HDR video recording and more.

The Oppo Find X2 Pro debuted with the Sony IMX689

The new Sony IMX766 sensor that is featured on the Reno 5 Pro+ measures 1/1.56-inch with 50MP and an f/1.8 aperture in a 6P lens arrangement. This is paired with a 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera, 13MP telephoto camera and a 2MP macro lens.

There is no word on the exact specifications of the Oppo Find X3 series, but the company has revealed that the upcoming phones will feature Android’s first 10-bit full-path colour management system along with support for 10bit image and video capture.

Recently, there were reports that OnePlus may also collaborate with Lecia for optimizing the cameras on the upcoming OnePlus 9 range. This comes after distant cousin Vivo announced its collaboration with Zeiss optics for the upcoming X60 series with the gimbal camera system. Similarly, we should see many smartphone makers announce partnerships with image sensor manufacturers for improving the camera system on upcoming flagship devices in 2021.

Players discover Cyberpunk 2077s railway system that was left out from final game

Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the news for a number of reasons these days, for issues like bugs, crazy physics, or performance issues essentially making the game unplayable for certain gamers. This time around, a player has found a feature that was seemingly removed from the game before release.

A Reddit user called Sybekul shared a video, showing a Railway system for the game that was removed from the final version. It looked like an entire railway system was in the works but may have been cut to meet the release date of the game or left incomplete intentionally to make the game’s universe seem more realistic.

Although the game has trains, they cannot be ridden by the player. The video clip shows the player following train tracks and entering a large building that appears to be a Railway station. Inside, the building is missing floors, ceiling, walls, and other assets which show that this feature of the game is left incomplete.

Cyberpunk 2077 unused train station

Before the release, CD Projekt Red had announced that they would remove the wall-running mechanic, which was previewed during the 48-minute gameplay reveal in August 2018. The developers had announced that due to design reasons, the vertical scaling in the game would be scrapped.

The game currently has several bugs, and the developer is slated to launch two major hotfixes - one in January and the other in February which aims to resolve most bugs and hopefully improve the performance on last-gen consoles (PS4, Xbox One).

The developer also released a hotfix last week which fixed the issue for the PC Gamers losing their saved progress. The hotfix also brings with it more stable memory management for console gamers.

Huawei could be close to launching new laptops powered by its HiSilicon chips. Last month there were reports about the company working on desktop PCs powered by its own silicon, and now, details of a laptop have surfaced.

As spotted by GSMArena, a noted tipster posted a photo of the box of Huawei's notebook, revealing some of its key specifications. As per the leaked image, the laptop will be powered by the Kirin 990 chipset with 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD and a 14-inch display. The laptop is named Qingyun L410 and is said to be a toned-down version of the MateBook 14 which could also support 5G connectivity since the chipset has an integrated 5G modem.

A PC powered by Huawei's HiSilicon-designed ARM CPU

Last month some details and photos of a desktop PC surfaced on Weibo, which is reportedly is developed to be sold to the government and corporations, and will be made available commercially at a later stage.

The leaked images revealed that the PC is powered by an ARM chip, the Kunpeng 920 (D920S10). It is developed by HiSilicon and fabbed by TSMC on a 7nm process. The processors used in the MateStation will have four or eight cores clocked at 2.6 GHz.

There is no official announcement from the company on this yet, which means the products will be most likely be released in the Chinese market before releasing them in global markets.

Apple MacBook Pro with M1 chip

Apple did it before Huawei

Huawei working on its own chip for its PCs is a step towards lessening its reliance on the western market for components. But Huawei is not the first company to come up with its own chips for laptops and PCs. Recently, Apple also launched its first MacBook series and Mac Mini with its own M1 processor and is receiving rave reviews around the world.

However, unlike Apple, Huawei seems to be using standard components in its computers. Apple has integrated components like CPU, GPU, unified memory architecture (RAM), Neural Engine, Secure Enclave, SSD controller, image signal processor and more in the M1 chips to boost efficiency. These iOS and Android phones will no longer support WhatsApp from January 1 2021

WhatsApp will stop working on some old Android phones and iPhones from January 1. With just a few days away from the end of the year, the popular instant messaging app is dropping support for some really old Android smartphones and Apple iPhones. It is fairly common for WhatsApp to halt support for old smartphones running on dated operating systems every year.

According to the official website, WhatsApp will support Android OS 4.0.3 and newer smartphones along with iPhones running on iOS 9 and above. Additionally, WhatsApp is also supported by select phones running on KaiOS 2.5.1 including the JioPhone and JioPhone 2. As per the report by News18, WhatsApp will stop working on six versions of older iPhones and seven versions of older Android smartphones.

This means that all iPhones until the iPhone 4 are not compatible to run WhatsApp anymore as iOS 7 is the final iOS version it received. The latest iOS 14 is compatible with iPhone 6s and above. So users of the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s will need to update their phones to iOS 9 to continue using WhatsApp.

iPhone 6s will not run WhatsApp from Jan 1, 2021

As for Android smartphones running on a version older than Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, WhatsApp will stop working on phones such as the HTC Desire, LG Optimus Black and more. Android phones don’t have an extended shelf-life in comparison with iPhones. Most phones running on Android 4.0.3 and above are not available anymore but people using those phones will either need to update it to the newer version or change their smartphone to continue using the messaging app.

To check if your phone is running on the latest version of Android, do a manual check by going into the Settings menu. Select About Phone from the list of options and tap on Check for Updates. The phone will perform a check for any pending OTA update for your smartphone.

WhatsApp recently went live with its Payments system in India in partnership with major national and international banks. Additionally, the company also unveiled its shopping tools for making it easier to shop directly on WhatsApp including the Add to Cart button and the shopping button. You can read more about it here.

PS5 DualSense Controllers adaptive triggers are reportedly breaking

“A few days ago, I was swinging around in Miles Morales when I felt the R2 snap and immediately become looser. It was as if whatever was causing the trigger to "resist" broke, causing it to go back to being a regular, non-adaptive trigger,” writes resetera user EeK9X. The user goes on to say that he has less than 50 hours of playtime on the PS5 and says he has taken good care of the console.

One user on Reddit writes, “Hello All. About one week into Demon's Souls, I just noticed my R2 trigger abruptly started activating under the slightest touch, or even controller movement. Inspecting the outside of the controller, The R2 trigger is now significantly looser than the L2; the slightest jiggle will rattle it in its place. I noticed several posts on Reddit and YouTube with other users experiencing this issue, but no feedback other than Sony seems to charge return shipping to address the issue”.

So, it looks like the issue with the DualSense adaptive trigger isn’t an isolated incident. However, the good news is that since the console is a little over a month old for almost all users, gamers can get this fixed through warranty. It will mean being without a controller for a few days, but you can use your DualShock 4 controller to play PS4 games on the PS5.

During various teardowns of the DualSense controller, we have seen the mechanism that provides the resistive tension in the triggers and the longevity of this mechanism was questioned. It is possible that Sony will alter the design and implementation of the Adaptive Trigger to provide longevity going forward, but that’s something we will have to wait and see.

We have a PS5 with us (first impressions) and we have not faced any problems with the adaptive triggers so far. Games like Call of Duty Cold War and Astro's Playroom have heavy implementation of the Adaptive Triggers. Upcoming games like Deathloop and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has also emphasised the use of the Adaptive Triggers, so it is a feature that game developers are definitely  looking to exploit.

If you are sceptical about using the adaptive triggers, know that you can go into the system settings of the PS5 and disable the adaptive triggers, so they will function like regular triggers.

While the PS5 is selling internationally and is out of stock in most places, India is still left without an official launch date with the grapevine still suggesting a January 2021 launch with limited stocks. We do however have an India price for the PS5 and you can see how it compares to the price in other countries here.
