Reliance Jio to resume offering free domestic calls to any network from January 1

Reliance Jio has announced that it will resume offering free domestic calls to any network from January 1. This comes after the company started charging for calls to other networks at 6 paise per minute due to the extension given by TRAI for the Bill and Keep regime. The new rule will dissolve any IUC (interconnected usage charges) that’s levied for domestic calls.

“Honouring its commitment to revert off-net domestic voice-call charges to zero, as soon as IUC charges are abolished, Jio will once again make all off-net domestic voice calls free, starting 1st January 2021,” Jio said in a media statement.

While the company was charging users for calls made to other networks it continued to offer free voice calls between Jio-to-Jio users. Previously, IUC charges were levied on off-net calls which were reduced from 14 paise to 6 paise per minute. The implementation of the Bill and Keep regime will abolish any IUC charges going further. TRAI is slated to implement this new regime from January 1 after which all domestic calls made between Jio to other networks will be free.

Reliance Jio has previously stated how it was paying IUC charges to rival telcos Airtel and erstwhile Vodafone (now Vi) to the tune of Rs 13,500 crores. At the time, Jio revealed that it received 25-30 crores missed calls from other networks which converts to callbacks from Jio users for which the company was paying IUC charges.

“Jio stands firm on its commitment to make the common Indian the beneficiary of advanced technologies like VoLTE. Jio is a customer-obsessed organization and cares for every single user. All our users enjoy free voice calls with Jio,” the company said.

Vi has also released a statement reiterating that domestic calls to other networks will continue to remain free after TRAI implements the Bill and Keep regime. “For all Vi Unlimited pack users, domestic calls to other networks anywhere in India, has always been free and will continue to be free 1st Jan 2021 onwards as well,” said a VIL spokesperson.

The Redmi Note 9T with Dimensity 800U has been spotted on Geekbench

The alleged Redmi Note 9T has been listed on Geekbench with some interesting information about the phone. As per the listing, the phone comes with a CPU model name ARM MT6853T, which seems to be associated with the Dimensity 800U series of SoCs.

Geekbench lists the model number as M2007J22G on the website, and as per the report on Thailand’s NTBC certification this is the same model number as Redmi Note 9T. According to the information on the website, the phone might just come with 4GB of RAM and runs on Android 10. The model in China comes with a 6GB/64GB RAM and storage configuration. There were no reports or news of any 4GB model in China.

Redmi Note 9T 5G (M2007J22G) Gets NBTC Certification. I Think Redmi Note 9T 5G Will Launch This Month Globally. pic.twitter.com/BLkOdfqDBU

— Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) December 1, 2020

The model is expected to come as a rebranded Redmi Note 9 5G  which was launched last month. The Chinese model bears the model number M2007J22C, while the global model comes with model number M2007J22G. It will be interesting to see how competitive the phone is priced in the global market. The details on the website might just be of a test model that the company might be testing out, and it could release the phone in the global market with updated software and RAM configurations.

The processor information is identified as the Dimensity 800U because this is the same processor SKU listed when the Chinese variant of this phone was spotted on Geekbench. This suggests that the global version of the Redmi Note 9T will come with the same processor as the variant in China. Apart from the Geekbench listing, there is very little information about the phone, Xiaomi has not posted or revealed any information about the device, but through many leaks and bits of information about the device it can be said that Xiaomi is definitely working on making the phone official.

Google Photos is now rolling out a Year in Review recap

Earlier this month, Google announced that it would be adding recent highlights, memories, and designs and now as the year is coming to an end, Google have also included a “Year in Review” highlight and lets you generate a 2020 photo book.

The “Year in review” will show users a recap of the last 12 months through photos, as reported by 9to5Google. The feature will first be available in the Memories carousel on both Android and iOS with no option for the web. You can tap the edges of the screen to move forward or backward while a long press and hold would do pauses. The date and location of the photos are available on the top with an overflow button to view all the photos for that day.

The “Preview book” feature lets you create an annual photo book with a few photos that you might like already added to the memories. You can edit this book by adding or removing photos from each page. The preview book also has a ‘Cover and spine' and an ‘Inside cover' feature that can be edited as well.

The feature is not yet available to all the users and is seen to have been rolling out in phases. There are a few users on Twitter reporting that the feature is accessible on their device. Also, this time around the naming scheme of the yearbook has changed a bit, as up until 2019 the photo creation toll was called the “Best of 20XX”, while for this year it seems to have a plain and simple “Year in review”. Nonetheless, you can change the name of the photo book yourself.

Call of Duty: Mobiles Chinese version hints at new additions to Battle Royale mode

Call of Duty: Mobile recently launched a special version of the game in China. As it turned out, the Chinese version of the game packed a whole host of new features that haven’t yet made it to the global version of the game, especially in the Battle Royale mode, where it seems like the Chinese version of Call of Duty: Mobile has taken cues from Call of Duty: Warzone. It should be noted that while all this is available in the Chinese version, it does not automatically guarantee that they will make their way to the standard version of the game.

Here are some of the new additions players have seen in the Chinese version of the game.

A new vehicle

The Chinese version of the game seems to have a truck added to the game, in addition to the current crop of vehicles like the Antelope, ATV and the tank. It’s not yet known exactly how the truck will serve any specific function. It should be noted that Warzone also features a truck.

Self-revive

The Chinese version of Call of Duty: Mobile also lets players self-revive in Battle Royale. Right now, only teammates are able to revive downed teammates. With self-revive, outright killing enemy team members becomes just as important as taking them down.

Buying stations

It seems like buying stations will be added to the map in Battle Royale. While there are such stations in the game already, most are limited to the Black Market area. The Chinese version sprinkles them all over the map, letting players buy anything from weapons, to class upgrades. There also seems to be an option to buy back fallen teammates.

New health and armour system

Right now, the healing system in Call of Duty: Mobile’s Battle Royale Mode is pretty straightforward. You get health packs that let you heal, while armour helps absorb certain damage. The Chinese version of the game apparently eschews health items in favour of armour plates. These armour plates can help improve the overall health of the player by up to three levels, with each plate adding one level. As for the base health of the user, that will regenerate, similar to multiplayer mode

Besides all this, there are also reports that Call of Duty: Mobile may introduce the gulag system of revival. Along with a bunch of other changes. You can check out more in the video below.
