Xiaomi Mi 10i has officially launched in India as the latest smartphone in the company’s Mi 10-lineup. Xiaomi had been teasing the launch of the Mi 10i for quite some time now and revealed that the phone has been customized for the Indian market. Moreover, the Mi 10i is based on the Mi 10T Lite which was launched globally in September 2020. The Mi 10T Lite was later launched with the upgraded hardware in China as the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G and the Mi 10i is largely based on the latter.

The Mi 10i has a premium finish with metal-glass construction and a circular rear camera module that houses four cameras. The phone has been confirmed to be offered in three colours for users to choose from and comes equipped with a 108MP primary camera sensor. Here’s everything you need to know about the pricing, specifications and availability of the Mi 10i in India.

Xiaomi Mi 10i price and availability

Xiaomi has priced the Mi 10i starting at Rs 20,999 in India for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage and Rs 21,999 for the 6GB+128GB storage option. The maxed-out variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 23,999. The phone will go on its first sale starting January 7 on Amazon India and will go on open sale from January 8 on Amazon India, Mi India store and soon in offline stores as well.

Xiaomi Mi 10i specifications

Xiaomi Mi 10i features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution display that supports 120Hz high refresh rate along with HDR10+ certification. The phone has a punch-hole cutout in the centre for the selfie camera and the screen is topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 for added protection. The Mi 10i measures 9 millimetres in thickness and weighs 214.5 grams. It is also IP53 rated which protects the phone from dust and water ingress.

The Mi 10i is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 619 GPU. This is paired with up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and up to 128GB UFS2.2 storage solution. The phone runs on MIUI 12 which is based on Android 11 out-of-the-box.

Xiaomi Mi 10i has quad cameras on the back that consists of a primary 108MP camera which uses ISOCELL HM2 sensor and measures 1/1.52-inch in size. Sony reportedly discontinues production of some PS4 models

If information circulating the internet is to be believed, then it looks like Sony is stopping production on some PS4 models. The information comes from Twitter user @Cheesemeister3k who tweets, saying, “Dear customers: due to the manufacturer ending production, the following products will not be restocked.” ・PS4 500GB Glacier White ・PS4 1TB Jet Black ・PS4 1TB Glacier White ・PS4 2TB Jet Black ・PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier White

— Cheesemeister (@Cheesemeister3k) January 3, 2021

The two PS4 models which aren’t a part of this list are the PS4 500GB Jet Black and PS4 Pro 1TB Jet Black. Sony has a history of supporting its previous generation gaming consoles for a few years after the launch of a new console. High profile games releasing in 2021 like Horizon: Forbidden West will launch on Sony’s PS4. With the cease in production, it’s natural that Sony expects the demand for the PS4 to fall with more players eyeing the hard to find PS5.

According to Toms Guide, “the PS3 wasn’t discontinued until mid-2017, almost four years after the launch of the PS4”. So, it is possible that the base PS4 could still be available for a few years. The PS4 Pro is in a precarious position offering some advantage over the PS4 but not as much as the PS5 making more sense for a consumer to pick up a PS5 instead of the Pro (provided they can get their hands on one).

Ever since its 2014 debut, the PS4 has sold more than 114 million units, making it the 4th bestselling console of all time. The first three spots are held by the PS2, Nintendo DS family of consoles and the Game Boy respectively.

The PS5 only recently received a launch date in India. The console will be available for pre-order on January 12 and will go on sale on February 2. You can learn how to pre-order the PS5 in India here.

Speaking of discontinued consoles, Microsoft discontinued the Xbox One X back in July 2020 just before the launch of the Xbox Series X and Series S.

The Snapdragon 480 follows the Snapdragon 460 chip that was launched back in January 2020 and is the first 4-series SoC to offer 5G support.

"Qualcomm Technologies continues to accelerate 5G commercialization globally to make 5G smartphones more accessible, especially as people worldwide continue to connect remotely. The Snapdragon 480 5G Mobile Platform will exceed OEM’s and consumer’s expectations in delivering high-and mid-tier features at an affordable price,” said Kedar Kondap, Vice President, Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 processor is manufactured on an 8nm process and features the integrated Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF system that brings support for mmWave and Sub-6GHz 5G with Standalone (SA) and Non-standalone (NSA) modes. It also enables multi-gigabit 5G connectivity for fast download and upload speeds. The chipset offers support for dual Wi-Fi antennas with Wi-Fi 6 features, dual-frequency GPS and NavIC for positioning systems.

Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 480 can deliver up to 100% performance improvements when it comes to peak CPU and GPU performance. The SoC features Kryo 460 CPU running at up to 2.0GHz, Adreno 610 GPU and Hexagon 686 processor that enable up to 100% performance gains in CPU and GPU performance and up to 70% AI performance improvement in comparison to Snapdragon 460 processor.

The Snapdragon 480 is also the first processor that brings in support for Quick Charge 4+ technology. It is also equipped with Spectra 345 ISP that supports receiving input from three camera units simultaneously. The Snapdragon 480 supports triple 13MP cameras in ultra-wide, wide and telephoto arrangement and can also record 720p videos simultaneously.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 processor also supports Full HD+ displays with 120Hz high-refresh-rate for a smooth and lag-free experience. It also supports aptX audio, optimized gaming experience, seamless streaming and more.

Several OEMs have ushered in support for the new Snapdragon 480 processor including OnePlus, Oppo, Nokia, to name a few. OnePlus is planning to launch a phone based on the Snapdragon 480 processor and it could likely be the successor to the OnePlus Nord N100.

“We can’t wait to deliver advanced 5G capabilities to the mass market through an upcoming device based on the new Snapdragon 480 5G Mobile Platform,” said Kinder Liu, Chief Operating Officer at OnePlus.

Garena adds a new pet called Beaston pet to Free Fire

Garena Free Fire has introduced a new pet to the game. Called Beaston, the new pet seems to be a cybernetic baboon, with a physique of a gorilla. As with almost every other pet in Free Fire, Beaston grants a boost to certain abilities, thereby giving the player an edge on the battlefield. However, it should be noted that Beaston is currently not yet available to purchase for players in India, but should be available sooner rather than later.

Skill

Beaston’s skill is called Helping Hand, and it increases the throwing distance of Grenades, Gloo Walls, Flashbangs, and Smoke Grenades. The percentage increase that players can expect will change depending on the level that Beaston is at.

Actions

Beaston has three available actions that can be performed. The first is a ‘Celebration’ that occurs when the player kills an enemy or takes a medkit. The second is a ‘Play’ action that can be manually triggered via the command wheel, while the third is called ‘Show’ which is also triggered via the command wheel. These are unlocked when Beaston reaches level two, three and four, respectively.

Skins

Garena Free Fire Beston pet

Beaston is available with one skin that is called the Great White Beaston. As the name would suggest, this skin changes Beaston’s fur to white, with gold and black additions. This is unlocked when Beaston reaches level six.

The skill granted by Beaston makes it a handy companion for those players who like to bombard their enemies with grenades to soften them up or flush them from their hiding spots. Beaston would also make for a good companion for players who like to use Alvaro as their primary characters. That’s because Alvaro’s passive ability, Art of Demolition, is increased explosive damage and damage range.
