TCL to launch next-gen mini-LED TVs at CES 2021

TCL is a well-known brand internationally for its bang for the buck TVs. But for some reason, the company hasn’t brought its most popular international TV models to India. Hopefully, that will change in 2021. TCL already has its 8 series Mini LED TVs available internationally and at CES 2021, the company is expected to showcase its next-generation mini-LED TVs. Internationally, TCL has its TVs running on Android TV and Roku, so it will be interesting to see the 2021 portfolio. The TCL CES 2021 briefing is slated for January 11 at 4:30 PM India time.

"TCL is proud to be at CES 2021 and a member of this vibrant industry. As one of the leading consumer electronics brands in the world, and second largest TV brand in America, it is our mission to make life intelligent with innovative technology through our AIxIoT strategy. Moving forward we are committed to providing the best smart products and services to global users," said Kevin Wang, CEO of TCL Industrial Holdings and TCL Electronics.

TCL will debut new mini-LED TVs at CES 2021

CES 2021 will be an all-digital event for the first time due to the pandemic, and it will be interesting to see how brands show off their latest offerings to the tech enthusiastic community.

TCL isn't the only brand flexing its mini-LED TV muscles. LG has announced that it will launch its range of QNED mini-LED TVs at CES 2021, combining the prowess of quantum dot and NanoCell in a TV to give OLED-like picture performance. You can learn more about LG’s QNED TVs here.

LG Display has announced a bendable 48-inch OLED TV that can bend to the curvature of 1,000R when used for gaming to add to the immersion. The TV can also become a 48-inch flat-panel when consuming content regularly. LG’s 48-inch CX has been touted internationally as the display of choice for gamers, but sadly, the 48-inch variant of the CX isn't available in India. We reviewed the LG GX and you can check out our review of LG’s premium OLED TV here.

Sony has also announced the date for their CES 2021 press event. Sony will, of course, show off its 2021 TV lineup. The company hasn’t yet revealed or teased anything about their upcoming TVs.

Moreover, the Mi 10i is based on the Mi 10T Lite which was launched globally in September 2020. The Mi 10T Lite was later launched with the upgraded hardware in China as the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G and the Mi 10i is largely based on the latter.

The Mi 10i has a premium finish with metal-glass construction and a circular rear camera module that houses four cameras. The phone has been confirmed to be offered in three colours for users to choose from and comes equipped with a 108MP primary camera sensor. The phone will go on its first sale starting January 7 on Amazon India and will go on open sale from January 8 on Amazon India, Mi India store and soon in offline stores as well.

Xiaomi Mi 10i specifications

Xiaomi Mi 10i features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution display that supports 120Hz high refresh rate along with HDR10+ certification. Sony reportedly discontinues production of some PS4 models

If information circulating the internet is to be believed, then it looks like Sony is stopping production on some PS4 models. The information comes from Twitter user @Cheesemeister3k who tweets, saying, “Dear customers: due to the manufacturer ending production, the following products will not be restocked.” ・PS4 500GB Glacier White ・PS4 1TB Jet Black ・PS4 1TB Glacier White ・PS4 2TB Jet Black ・PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier White

— Cheesemeister (@Cheesemeister3k) January 3, 2021

The two PS4 models which aren’t a part of this list are the PS4 500GB Jet Black and PS4 Pro 1TB Jet Black. Sony has a history of supporting its previous generation gaming consoles for a few years after the launch of a new console. High profile games releasing in 2021 like Horizon: Forbidden West will launch on Sony’s PS4. With the cease in production, it’s natural that Sony expects the demand for the PS4 to fall with more players eyeing the hard to find PS5.

According to Toms Guide, “the PS3 wasn’t discontinued until mid-2017, almost four years after the launch of the PS4”. So, it is possible that the base PS4 could still be available for a few years. The PS4 Pro is in a precarious position offering some advantage over the PS4 but not as much as the PS5 making more sense for a consumer to pick up a PS5 instead of the Pro (provided they can get their hands on one).

Ever since its 2014 debut, the PS4 has sold more than 114 million units, making it the 4th bestselling console of all time. The first three spots are held by the PS2, Nintendo DS family of consoles and the Game Boy respectively.

The PS5 only recently received a launch date in India. The console will be available for pre-order on January 12 and will go on sale on February 2. You can learn how to pre-order the PS5 in India here.

Speaking of discontinued consoles, Microsoft discontinued the Xbox One X back in July 2020 just before the launch of the Xbox Series X and Series S.
