OnePlus Health app teardown reveals upcoming OnePlus Watch, Watch RX and fitness Band

OnePlus has teased the launch of its first smart wearable in India and the companion app called OnePlus Health is also now listed on the Play Store. Per previous leaks, the OnePlus Band could be the first wearable product from the company and could launch around January 11 in India. The fitness band has also been listed on Amazon and Flipkart but the company is yet to confirm the exact date of the launch.

According to a report by Android Police, early access for the OnePlus Health app has started as the app has made it to the Play Store. The Health app is still in development and once released, will help users keep a track of their health data, workout records and more. Moreover, the app will also enable users to change watch faces, configure incoming call or SMS alerts, set daily goals and more.

Interestingly, the OnePlus Health app looks similar to the HeyTap Health app that’s compatible with Oppo smart wearable devices. On further teardown of the OnePlus Health app by tipster Nils Ahrensmeier and XDA’s Adam Conway, Oppo Watch and HeyTap Health were found mentioned several times in the code. However, as pointed out by another popular tipster Max Jambor, the Oppo Watch could be a placeholder as the app is still under development. OnePlus Watch RX was also spotted in between several lines of codes but very little is known about it.

Apart from this, the teardown has also revealed several animations and watch faces for the upcoming OnePlus Band and OnePlus Watch.

OnePlus Band has leaked previously and is expected to be priced around Rs 2,499 in India. The OnePlus Band is rumoured to feature a 1.1-inch AMOLED display with adjustable brightness along with 5ATM certification making it resistant to dust and water ingress.

The fitness band is expected to arrive in three colours, Black, Navy and Tangerine Gray and weighs 22.6 grams. It is also equipped with SpO2 blood-oxygen saturation monitor, optical heart rate sensor and more. The OnePlus Band will offer 14-day battery life from its 100mAh battery.

OnePlus has also confirmed it is working on a smartwatch that’s due out in early 2021. It is likely we will see the OnePlus Watch make its debut alongside the OnePlus 9 series that’s expected to launch by mid-March.

Call of Duty: Mobiles Mystic Peacekeeper MK2 gun reportedly causing game breaking audio glitches

The guys over at Call of Duty: Mobile have been pretty regular when it comes to pushing updates. However, one of their newest additions may be the cause of a game-breaking bug. Multiple players have complained that the Mythic version of the new Peacekeeper assault rifle is causing them to lose audio. The players turned to online forums like Reddit to air their grievances. The weapon in question is the Mythic Peacekeeper MK2 - Artifact, which is available the in-game store via the Magma Eruption Mythic Drop. So, players have to pay in real-world money if they want to get their hands on it.

Players say that after being killed with the weapon a few times, their audio completely cuts out. On top of this, the audio returns only after the game has been restarted. Some players are also complaining about another audio bug wherein users of the weapons would keep hearing the sound of the bullet casings hitting the ground on a loop.

As any online player can attest, audio is vital when playing competitive matches online. Hence, players say that they end up losing their matches, which can be especially troublesome in ranked matches as they end up losing rank too. Quitting the game midway is also not an option as players are penalised for it. As such, many players are complaining the weapon is turning things towards a pay-to-win scenario as those with the weapon are able to shut out the audio for opposing teams.

Call of Duty: Mobile developers haven't yet commented on the issue, but it is possible that they will fix it by the next update. For now, it looks like players may have to deal with audio issues with the new weapon or not use it at all during the game.

Sony launches new 4K and 8K Bravia TVs at CES 2021 powered by the new Cognitive Processor XR

At the virtual CES 2021 event, Sony has announced its new lineup of Bravia TVs. The lineup includes 4K and 8K TVs some of which are OLED and others which are LED TVs. Unlike LG, who is launching QNED TVs at CES with microLED backlighting, the Sony LED TVs are using traditional LED backlighting. We will have to wait and see how much of a difference microLED backlighting makes to the TVs when we get our hands on them. Sony has been one of the TV brands helming Android TV since the beginning and now, the Sony TVs will come with the Google TV UI found on the new Chromecast. All the TVs will come with HDMI 2.1 support.

Coming to the models the new BRAVIA XR televisions include the MASTER Series Z9J 8K LED, MASTER Series A90J and A80J OLED, and X95J and X90J 4K LED.

Cognitive Processor XR

Until now the brain behind the Sony flagship TVs has been the X1 Ultimate chipset and this year, Sony has introduced a new chipset called the XR, or more specifically the Cognitive Processor XR. The chipset uses “a completely new processing method designed to replicate the ways humans see and hear”. Since TVs are getting quite large, rather than focusing on the entire screen there are times when we will focus on a particular part of the screen or a particular character. So, the processing will ensure that the focal point of content will look its best on the TV while maintaining the best possible details for everything else on the screen.

According to Sony, “the new processor can cross-analyze an array of elements at once, just as our brains do. By doing so, each element is adjusted to its best final outcome, in conjunction with each other, so everything is synchronized and lifelike – something that conventional AI cannot achieve”.

Sony says that “Cognitive Processor XR can also analyze sound position in the signal so the sound matches precisely with what's on the screen”. This may sound familiar as Sony Acoustic Surface technology found on its OLED TVs like the A8H (review) project sounds from specific parts of the screen to make it so that the sound is coming from where it should rather than below the TV. On Sony OLED with Acoustic Surface, the entire screen vibrates to produce sound making the entire screen the speaker.

Google TV

All the 2021 Sony TVs showcased at CES 2021 will come with Google TV. Google unveiled the new UI called Google TV with the new Chromecast, and it looks like the Sony TVs could be the first to come with this new UI.

HDMI 2.1

In 2020, we were disappointed that the Sony X90H (review) was the only Sony TV to come with HDMI 2.1 support especially when you consider that the PS5 (review) and Xbox Series X has HDMI 2.1 output. However, it looks like Sony is addressing this concern as all the TVs announced will come with support for HDMI 2.1. Sony Says, “All BRAVIA XR TVs will feature HDMI 2.1 compatibility, including 4K 120fps, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and e-ARC, supporting higher resolutions and frame rates ideal for next-generation gaming”.

Sony 2021 TV model numbers and Screen Sizes

Here is a look at the Sony Bravia TV models announced at CES 2021.

The MASTER Series Z9J 8K LED TV will be available in 85 and 75-inch screen sizes.  The MASTER Series A90J 4K OLED TV will be available in 83-inch, 65-inch and 55-inch screen sizes.  The A80J 4K OLED TV will be available in 77-inch, 65-inch and 55-inch screen sizes.  The X95J 4K LED TV will be available in 85-inch, 75-inch and 65-inch screen sizes.  The X92 4K LED TV will be available in 100-inch screen size while the X90J 4K LED TV will be available in 75-inch, 65-inch, 55-inch and 50-inch screen sizes.
