PlayStation 5 Digital Edition wont be available for purchase at India launch

Sony recently announced the PlayStation 5 availability schedule in India, giving some relief to the fans. But it seems like the joy was short-lived as a new report suggests there might be some more waiting involved if you wish to buy the Digital Edition of the already hard-to-buy console. 

A report from IGN suggests that customers will not be able to buy the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, and select accessories including the Dual Sense charging station, HD camera, and PS Headset at launch. The news was first spotted on Twitter, which was later verified by folks at IGN. 

Sony India reportedly confirmed in its statement to IGN that the news is correct and these products won't be available during February 2 launch. Sony states, “PS5 Digital Edition and select peripherals (Dual Sense charging station, HD camera and PS headset) will not be available in the launch window. Please monitor our official channels for updates on release dates.”

It means if you're eyeing to grab your PS5 before the stocks get over, you only have the more expensive PS5 disc variant as a choice. For accessories, only the DualSense controller and Media Remote will be available in India at launch in addition to the console.

The report doesn't shed light on why Sony has decided to limit the number of products at launch, but it's upsetting for fans who have been waiting for the sleeker and cheaper PS5 Digital Edition. Sony also hasn't confirmed when this variant with other accessories will be made available.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T and Redmi 9T launched globally: Price and specifications

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T and Redmi 9T have officially launched with MediaTek Dimensity 800U and Snapdragon 662 processors respectively. The new budget and mid-range phones by Xiaomi are based on existing phones that have launched in China. The Redmi Note 9T shares its feature set with the Redmi Note 9 5G that was announced in November 2020 while the Redmi 9T is the same as the Redmi 9 Power that launched in December 2020 in India.

Xiaomi has also announced the Mi Smart Clock and Mi 360-degree Home Security Camera 2K Pro alongside the new phones. Here’s everything you need to know about the Redmi Note 9T and Redmi 9T.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T specifications and pricing

The Redmi Note 9 features a 6.53-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution display with 90Hz high refresh rate support and a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera up front. It has a plastic built and measures 9.1 millimetres in thickness and weighs 199 grams. The Redmi Note 9T is offered in two colours: black and purple.

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 9T is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor with an octa-core CPU and is paired with 4GB RAM and upto 128GB storage options to choose from. It runs on MIUI 12 based on Android 10 out-of-the-box.

The phone has a 48MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture along with a 2MP macro camera and 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there is a 13MP selfie camera and the rear cameras can record in 4K at 30FPS.

There is a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and the Redmi Note 9T is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging out-of-the-box.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T is priced starting at Euro 229 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage and Euro 269 for the 128GB storage option.

The Redmi 9T has quad cameras on the back with a 48MP primary camera along with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. There’s an 8MP front-facing camera for selfies as well.

The phone has a side-mounted fingerprint reader and is equipped with a 6,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging out-of-the-box.

Xiaomi Redmi 9T is priced starting at Euro 159 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, Eur 189 for the 128GB storage variant and EUR 199 for the variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

OnePlus Band with SpO2 monitor confirmed to launch on January 11 in India

OnePlus has confirmed the launch of its first smart wearable product, the OnePlus Band in India. After weeks of teasing its fitness tracker, the company will finally make its foray into the smart wearable segment with the OnePlus Band on January 11. The OnePlus Band has been leaked previously and the company has separately confirmed several key features of the fitness band.

OnePlus took to its social media handles to reveal that it will launch the OnePlus Band on January 11 at 11 AM. The announcement will take place online where the company will announce its fitness tracker. The rumour mill has been keeping up with the company’s plan to launch the OnePlus Band. We have seen several leaks now and OnePlus has confirmed some of those features as well.

The launch date of January 11 was previously tipped in a leak and it is also expected to be priced around Rs 2,499 in India. The OnePlus Band could feature a 1.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 5ATM certification making it resistant to dust and water.

The fitness band is expected to arrive in three colours, Black, Navy and Tangerine Gray and weighs 22.6 grams. It is also equipped with SpO2 blood-oxygen saturation monitor, optical heart rate sensor and more. The OnePlus Band will offer 14-day battery life from its 100mAh battery.

The companion app for the OnePlus Band is called OnePlus Health and it was recently released on the Play Store. The app will serve as the dashboard for all OnePlus wearables going forward and is expected to let users keep a track of their sleep, heart rate and fitness along with providing reports based on the analysis.

OnePlus is also working on a smartwatch powered by Google’s WearOS and it is tipped to launch in early 2021. We expect the OnePlus smartwatch to make an appearance alongside the OnePlus 9 series that is rumoured to launch by mid-March. The company could also tease the smartwatch during the launch of OnePlus Band next week.

LAVIE Pro Mobile the on the go laptop announced at CES 2021

NEC is a joint venture for NEC Personal Computers and Lenovo, and they have just announced a refresh to their laptop called the LAVIE Pro mobile at the all-digital CES 2021. The company is known for designing compact and durable laptops in the consumer sector.

The LAVIE Pro mobile comes with a compact 13.3-inch display and weighs just under 900 grams. The device sports an all-day-long battery marked at 10hrs usage on a full charge. The device also supports fast charging topping up 80 percent in just one hour. The laptop has a custom-built keyboard and features a lift-up hinge to tilt the keyboard for ease of use typing.

The laptop is powered by the Intel Core i7 11th Gen CPU with Intel Xe Graphics. The laptop features a 360-degree dual-microphone array and bottom-firing speakers for the remote-work era of video calling. It also features Windows Hello Facial recognition for faster unlocking and sports a dedicated USB-A, Full-sized HDMI port, and a 3.5mm jack on the right. On the left, the device comes with an SD reader, Kensington lock, and two USB-C ports of which one supports fast charging.

The laptop comes with a carbon casing on top and bottom for improved durability and lightweight design. NEC markets this laptop as an on-the-go device for users who need a lightweight laptop with all the functions along with powerful internals. The LAVIE Pro Mobile starts at $1,699.99 (Roughly Rs. 1,24,515).

LAVIE Mini is a portable gaming laptop with an 8-inch form factor launched at CES 2021

LAVIE Mini is the second device that is announced by the company NEC this year at the all-digital CES 2021. The LAVIE Mini is a compact and portable gaming laptop that comes in an 8-inch form factor. 

The device features an 8-inch WUXGA touchscreen and weighs around 579 grams. It is powered by an Intel Core i7 11th Gen CPU and the graphics are handled by Intel Iris Xe Graphics. The laptop comes with small backlit round keys in Crystal White color giving a translucent look. It also offers a 360-degree hinge making it a two-in-one convertible laptop and can switch easily between tablet and laptop mode.

The laptop includes optional accessories such as a docking station to connect your PC to an external input device such as a 4K TV for screen sharing. It has an inbuilt webcam that can be used for making video calls. The device comes with an optical touch sensor instead of a traditional trackpad due to the small form factor.

The portable gaming controller dock makes the LAVIE Mini a handy gaming PC with Xbox styled buttons making it familiar to many gamers. Last year we got to check out Dell’s Alienware handheld gaming PC. At the moment there is no pricing or availability on the prototype.

Companies making prototypes like these create a spur in the market for handheld portable gaming devices that can be played while on the go as well as you can pop it on your TV when home to play it on a big screen. We have seen likes of handheld devices from NVIDIA as well as Razer which shows that there is a market for such devices. A device like the Nintendo Switch is proof that there is a market for gamers that want a serious handheld gaming device that isn’t a smartphone.

PUBG Mobile India launch remains in the air as developers yet to receive go-ahead from government

PUBG Mobile India launch remains uncertain as there has been no update from the developers since their last announcement. The government’s response to an RTI query has revealed that PUBG Corporation or Krafton Inc are not in talks about lifting the ban on PUBG Mobile in India. PUBG Mobile along with 118 other apps was banned by the Indian government on September 2 citing security and privacy concerns. In November, the developers of the game announced a special version called PUBG Mobile India that was being developed for the Indian audiences.

According to a report and RTI filed by GemWire, the Department of Electronics and Information Technology has responded saying that it has not ‘banned’ public access to PUBG Mobile Nordic Map: Livik app under the provision of Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The response indicates that the government has only ‘blocked’ access for specific apps including PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite and not PUBG as an entity.

The response also goes on to reveal that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) is not in any formal dialogue with either PUBG Corp. or Krafton Inc currently to lift the ban on the game in India. As per the report, the ban is not on other versions of PUBG Mobile such as the Korean version of the game and is instead on two specific apps.

PUBG Mobile India recently got Aneesh Aravind as its Country Manager who was appointed by Krafton Inc. Similarly, the company has been onboarding previous Tencent employees who were working on developing the game for India in its new team. PUBG Corp. has established an Indian subsidiary and also announced a partnership with Microsoft to use its Azure cloud services to store user's data. The developers also released a website and a teaser video featuring three popular PUBG Mobile players, Aaditya ‘Dynamo’ Sawant, Jonathan Amaral and Chetan ‘Kronten’ Chandgude. All of this, in a bid to resume its operations in one of its largest markets in the world.

Previous RTI responses have also revealed that the developers are yet to receive a go-ahead from the government to relaunch the game. PUBG India officials have reportedly tried to meet with the government but have failed to get any positive response yet. Meanwhile, the National Child Rights Association has opposed the launch of PUBG Mobile in India as it first wants appropriate legislations to be put in place for such games before allowing PUBG India to relaunch the game in the country.
