The Redmi 9 Prime, better known just as Redmi 9 in the international market, was launched with MIUI 11 out of the box in August 2020, just started receiving MIUI 12 in the Indian market today. Just after five months from the release of the phone, it gets an incremental update.

The update is tagged as MIUI 12.0.1.0.QJCINXM, and is approximately 608MB in size and comes with a December security patch for this release. Xiaomi had started releasing the stable builds of MIUI 12 in China late in September last year and was specific only to the Chinese province at that time. The new update focuses on Privacy, Security, and Multitasking and shows sensitive behaviours of an application. It brings brand-new design, Animations, Dark Mode 2.0, Enhanced Privacy Protection, and many more features that you can check out here.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite could make its debut alongside Mi 11 series global launch: Report

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite is said to make its debut alongside the global launch of the Mi 11, according to the latest report. The Mi 11 was officially launched on December 28 in China as the first phone powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor. However, neither the Mi 11 Pro nor the Mi 11 Lite was showcased alongside the standard version at launch.

There are speculations that the Mi 11 Pro and the Mi 11 Lite will launch during the Spring Festival in China which starts from February 12. According to the latest report by GizmoChina, the Mi 11 Lite will likely launch globally alongside the Mi 11 and possibly the Mi 11 Pro.

Xiaomi has not revealed the exact date of the Mi 11 global launch, but it has started teasing the Mi 11 series across its social media handles. The Mi 11 Lite has been leaked previously as the alleged key specifications were revealed in a video published by Vietnamese YouTube channel ThePixel.

As per the rumours, the Mi 11 Lite could launch by March-end in Vietnam, so we can expect the global announcement to be held prior to regional availability. There’s no word when the global launch will take place as the company is yet to reveal that.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is planning to bring the entire Mi 11 lineup to India this time, as has been previously confirmed by Sumit Sonal, Marketing Lead of Mi Brand at Xiaomi India. Here’s everything you should know about the Mi 11 Lite.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite leaked specifications

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite leaked specifications

The Mi 11 Lite is said to feature a full HD+ flat-screen display, unlike the curved screen we have seen on the Mi 11. There is a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera up front and a squircle camera module on the back with three cameras. The display is also rumoured to support 120Hz high refresh rate. It is rumoured to be powered by the Snapdragon 732G processor paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

The rear camera array could include a primary 64MP camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 5MP camera. The phone is expected to be fitted with either a side-mounted fingerprint sensor or a rear-mounted reader, but the same is not visible in the leaked renders.

Xiaomi is yet to reveal the Mi 11 Lite and the Mi 11 Pro, but we will be keeping an eye out for rumours and leaks on the two upcoming phones.

Intel confirms Rocket Lake S coming to market in Q1 2021

The Consumer Electronics Show that typically takes place in Las Vegas, is now being hosted entirely online. This has allowed brands to their products in a whole new, and detailed manner. One such brand is Intel, which has showcased almost 50 new SKUs for upcoming processors, covering everything from laptops to desktops to servers. However, amidst all these reveals is one key fact; Intel will bring the Rocket Lake desktop CPUs to market in the first half of 2021.

In a blog post published by Intel’s VP and GM of Client Computing Group Desktop, Workstations and Gaming, John Bonini, there is a section titled “Rocket Lake is Coming.” While the title might feel vague, Bonini goes on to confirm that “…the next generation 11th Gen Intel Core desktop processors (codenamed Rocket Lake) is coming in the first quarter of 2021 and will provide support for PCIe 4.0".

Intel Rocket Lake Key Features

Perhaps the biggest draw for consumers to Rocket Lake desktop CPUs is going to be the adoption of PCIe Gen 4.0. The new CPU offers up to 20 PCIe Gen 4 lanes directly connected to the CPU, allowing for direct connection of GPUs and storage. Rocket Lake S will continue to be manufactured on Intel’s 14nm+++ process. In order to take advantage of the new processors, users would ideally need to move over to a 500-series motherboard, although some manufacturers built PCIe lanes into their 400-series boards, which can be enabled via a BIOS update. So if you’re currently using a 10th-gen Intel processor on a Z490 board which has PCIe lanes built-in, then you can upgrade to Rocket Lake. However, if you’re using an H410 or B460 board, you’re going to need to upgrade to a newer board as well. Intel typically initiates a board change every two generations. When the company launched their Comet Lake processors, it was not going to be backwards compatible and users needed to upgrade their motherboards as well.

At that time when Z490 boards were launched, some OEMs advertised PCIe Gen 4 spec, but not all. While one could think this disadvantages current 10th gen users, but in reality, it may not be the case. Intel also showcased their Alder Lake CPU based on 10nm fabrication and utilising a hybrid architecture, expected to launch in the second half of 2021. Those on the Comet Lake chips with non-PCIe Gen 4 boards could just move directly to Alder Lake, but it remains to be seen if Alder Lake’s hybrid architecture would match up or exceed the kind of performance we’ve come to expect from Intel, but more importantly, given AMD’s new Ryzen CPUs competition.
