Call of Duty: Mobile resets its Season count, next season to be called Season 1

It seems like Activision is planning a sort of reset to Call of Duty: Mobile. The developers have announced that the next season of the game will not follow convention and will instead reset back to square one. So instead of it being called Season 14, it will instead be called Season 1. What exactly this means for the game isn’t known yet. The only information revealed over on the Reddit forum is that the team is preparing a “much larger” update for next week that will include an end to Season 13 and an introduction to Season 1.

The only other piece of information we have about the next season’s update is that we will be getting two brand new weapons one will be an assault rifle. As far as the assault rifle goes, the devs teased the same on Twitter, judging by the teaser, it looks like it will be the FAMAS assault rifle, or at least something based on it. Details of other rifle are not yet known, but the devs may have given us a hint. One of the comments in the post asked the devs if they could add a new weapon in the Marksman’s Rifle category, which currently only has one weapon, namely the Kilo Bolt Rifle. The devs note that there was another weapon coming to the category, and that it would be added “very soon.” Other Reddit users suggested that this could be the FAL rifle, but the devs did not confirm nor comment on the speculation.

It is not yet known when the update will drop, but considering that the current Season 13 Battle Pass will end in just over a week, one can expect it to drop in about two weeks. Before that, expect Activision to host some temporary events to ring in the new season.

Scientists from Columbia University publish paper on how to use black holes as an energy source

Imagine a world where we had unlimited power at our disposal? We could use that energy to actually power up starships that could help humans build off-world colonies and such. Well, that thought could soon be a reality as scientists from Columbia University have just published a paper in the APS Physics Journal that essentially details how we could use black holes as an energy source by tapping into their sheer power. We all know that black holes emit an insane amount of energy when spinning and this energy is what these scientists want to siphon.

Black Hole power siphon

The idea here is to turn a black hole into an unlimited battery of sorts. If we truly had unlimited power, the applications and functions are truly endless. We could realistically set up off world colonies on the Moon and even on Mars. Right now though this is still a theoretical hypothesis, but the scientists state in their paper that, “Spinning black holes store rotational energy that can be extracted. When a black hole is immersed in an externally supplied magnetic field, reconnection of magnetic field lines within the ergosphere can generate negative energy (relative to infinity) particles that fall into the black hole event horizon while the other accelerated particles escape stealing energy from the black hole. We show analytically that energy extraction via magnetic reconnection is possible when the black hole spin is high … and the plasma is strongly magnetized.”.

This is real cutting edge stuff here. These scientists are basically talking about drawing energy out of the singularity of a black hole! If that isn't the most awesome sci-fi thing ever, then I do not know what is! The real-world applications of this kind of power are unimaginable. Let’s see what the future holds in store for us.

YouTube reveals new feature that allows users to buy products shown in videos on the platform

It looks like YouTube is jumping on the e-commerce bandwagon. The company is testing out a new feature that allows users to actually buy the products that are shown in selected YouTube videos. Currently, the service is only being tested out in the US on Android, iOS and the internet. Creators that have been chosen by YouTube can actually add particular products to their videos which can be purchased. You can click on the shopping bag icon whenever it appears in a video to use the feature.

In a support thread Google stated, “We’re testing a new way for people to easily discover and purchase products featured in YouTube videos. Creators in this pilot can add certain products to their videos. Viewers can then see a list of featured products by clicking the shopping bag icon in the bottom left corner of the video. From there, viewers can explore each product’s page to see more information, related videos, and purchase options for that product. We are currently piloting this feature with a limited number of creators. It is visible to users in the US on iOS, Android, and desktop.”.

Users will now be able to view the products on sale in videos and buy them straight away using the shopping bag icon. In a recent report on Bloomberg, Google revealed that it was testing out the feature on a select number of channels. The company also stared that creators will have control over what products they actually feature.

Kuo claims 2021 MacBook Pro to feature new design, ditch the Touch Bar

Revered Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed information about upcoming MacBook Pro, and there are quite a few juicy ones. The upcoming MacBook Pro models will obviously be powered by Apple’s own silicon, given that the company declared their move away from Intel’s CPUs. For all other juicy information, read on.

The first detailed shared by Kuo is that the next series of MacBook Pros will ditch the Touch Bar, with physical function keys taking its place. The Touch Bar was touted as the future of input when it was originally released, with Apple being rather bullish about it. While many have criticised the Touch Bar as being more of a gimmick and less functional, there are some who do find it exceptionally useful. The ability to have contextual menus and settings on the Touch Bar based on the active application can be rather useful. If Apple does replace the Touch Bar with physical Function keys, there are a lot of power users and content creators who would definitely find that more useful.

The second detail shared by Kuo is that the next series of MacBook Pros will bring back the MagSafe connector. Kuo clarifies that this isn’t the same magnetic connector on the iPhone, which provides charging via the wireless method. The connector is expected to be similar to the MagSafe 2 connector we saw on the older MacBooks. This could mean a reshuffling of the ports, given that a new power connector would have to be factored in. Currently, the Intel-based MacBook Pro 16-inch features four Thunderbolt 3.0 ports using the Type-C connector. The new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 chip has only 2 USB-C ports, but users are hoping the upcoming replacement to the Intel-based 16-inch MacBook Pro would have more. We can’t help but wish Apple brings back the SD Card slot as well, something that creators have longed forever since it was removed.

The third piece of information is around the design of the upcoming machines. Kuo says that the upcoming MacBook Pro will also feature a physical design change. The top and bottom halves are expected to be more squared off, more in-line with the new iPad Air and iPad Pro, bringing the Macs more in-line with Apple’s modern flat design.

Lastly, Kup says that Apple is expected to launch two new MacBooks, one with a 14-inch display, with the other being 16-inches in size. Both the machines will be powered by Apple’s own silicon. Kuo has not revealed any details about the chip powering them, but it is expected that they will be a more powerful version of the M1. For those wondering when these machines will make it to market, the rumour is that Apple might announce these machines in the third quarter of 2021.
