Xiaomi might soon launch the affordable Mi Watch Lite smartwatch in India soon

Mi Watch Lite could be on its way to India. The smartwatch has been spotted passing Bureau of Indian Standards(BIS) certification by a known tipster. To recall, the smartwatch silently appeared on global Mi website in December.

From the details available, the Mi Watch Lite looks like a rebranded version of the Redmi Watch which comes at a slightly cheaper price. Also, the BIS listing mentions the model as Redmi. This is a huge hint that it's the Redmi Watch that's being rebranded as the Mi Watch Lite for the Indian market.

The leak comes from noted tipster Mukul Sharma who also spotted the OnePlus Watch passing BIS listing just yesterday. Here's the screenshot he tweeted-

— Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings) January 21, 2021 Mi Watch Lite expected features and specifications

The Mi Watch Lite has a Fitbit Versa-like square display with rounded edges. It comes with a 1.4-inch LCD screen with 320 x 320 resolution. The display can also be customised with 120 different watch faces.

The strap is made of TPU or thermoplastic polyurethane and comes in different colours. The Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite has 11 different workout modes. It is also water-resistant of 5 ATM, so you can wear it underwater to depths of 50m for up to 10 minutes, which means you can wear it for a swim.

Other features include sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, step counting, activity reminders, exercises and a unique counter that tells you the number of times you stand up each day.

Some smartwatch features found on the watch are notification alert, calling, weather reports, music controls and more. The Mi Watch Lite also relies on Xiaomi's in house OS like the Mi Watch. What's impressive is that it also features GPS - a rare feature on an entry-level smartwatch. This means you can track workout distance without needing the phone by the side.

The Mi Watch Lite is claimed to survive nine days of 'typical usage' on a single charge. You can also access your activity and workout data, manage settings and get detailed stats on the Xiaomi Wear companion app.

Mi Watch Lite expected price in India

Currently, Xiaomi is only selling one smartwatch under the 'Mi' brand - the Mi Watch Revolve. It was launched in September 2020 and is available at Rs 8999. Further, if we consider Redmi Watch's (same as Mi Watch Lite) price in China, it converts to Rs 3400. So even if the company decides to price it higher, it should be under Rs 5000.

OnePlus and OPPO merge R&D team: Heres what you need to know

OnePlus has officially announced that it will be merging its Research and Development (R&D) team with Oppo. Both the companies have often found themselves marred in controversy over similar-looking phones which is also a by-product of being handled by the same conglomerate, BBK Electronics.

As per a statement given to Android Authority, “To better maximize resources and further position OnePlus for growth, we are in the process of further integrating some R&D capabilities within OPLUS, our long-term investor. OnePlus will continue operating independently and working to deliver the best possible user experience for existing and future OnePlus users.”

Interestingly, the official statement mentions OPLUS which is an investor group that looks after OnePlus, Oppo and Realme. It is not surprising that OnePlus has announced the integration of its R&D team with Oppo since the former anyway uses Oppo’s supply chain resources to manufacture its phones. With this integration, we may see all three companies: Oppo, Realme and OnePlus working closely to develop technologies for upcoming phones.

In 2020, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau announced that he has taken additional responsibility being appointed as the Senior Vice President and Chief Product Experience Officer of the investor group OPLUS. At the time, Lau was said to contribute to the product development and planning and continues to be the CEO at OnePlus.

Before OnePlus issued the official statement, an exclusive report by DoNews citing insider sources broke the news of the R&D merger between Oppo and OnePlus. The report also states that the new employees in the R&D team are being onboarded by Oppo and not OnePlus. “It's similar to the relationship between Xiaomi and Redmi, sharing the same R&D system,” the report reads.

However, OnePlus has also reiterated that it remains an independent brand but it remains to be seen how either of the companies are able to reap the benefits of this merger.

TCL is bringing Android 11 to its 2019 and 2020 TVs but will they also get the Google TV UI

TCL announced a bunch of TVs at CES 2021 including the 4K Mini LED TV C825, TCL 4K QLED TV C725, TCL 4K HDR TV P725. The 2021 TVs will bring with them support for Google TV but what if you just purchased a TCL Android TV in 2020 or 2019? Well, it looks like TCL could be updating its 2019 and 2020 TVs to Android 11. The information comes from FlatpanelsHD which says that TCL “says that its 2019 and 2020 Android TV models in Europe will be updated to Android 11 with ALLM for apps, cinematic ads, instant apps (see below), a Gboard TV keyboard with speech-to-text and predictive typing, performance improvements, and a new 'Subscribe and install' option in the Google Play Store”.

Interestingly the website lists the X915, C815, C715, P715, and P615 among others. But these are the model numbers available in India as well, so it is safe to assume that the TVs could see the Android 11 update in India as well. However, there is no information on when we will see the update rollout.

The question remains whether these older TVs will get the Google TV UI as there is no clarity on the same.

Resident Evil 8 Maiden demo is now fully playable on the PS5

Resident Evil is one of the biggest and most well-known gaming franchises out there. From the first game in 1995, we were treated to a barrage of zombies, mutations, dangerous viruses and much more. The game has gone from a fixed camera with pre-rendered backgrounds to a third-person shooter to an actual First-person horror-adventure. The evolution of the series is not done yet as we got our first taste of Capcom's Resident Evil 8 in the form of a playable demo on the PS5.

Titled ‘Maiden’, the demo is only available for the PS5 as of now. And here is how you can download it.

Head over to the PS5 Store Type Resident Evil into the Search Bar The demo should pop up, if not, scroll down until you see it Download the demo to your PS5

Again, we must state that this is only available for the PS5. Another demo is planned for other platforms sometime in spring. From what we’ve seen of the demo, it looks like you’ll be playing as RE7 protagonist, Ethan Winters as he wakes up in a cell and has to find his out of a labyrinthine mansion, while being pursued by the titular ‘maiden’. The graphics do look great on the RE Engine, and we’re expecting the full game to blow our socks off when it does arrive. The game will launch on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Series S, and the Xbox One on May 7. The PS5 will launch in India on February 2 so in the meantime, check out the full demo, courtesy of Yong Yea, in the video below.

Soundcore launches Dolby Atmos Soundbar Infini Pro priced at Rs 15,999

Soundcore by Anker has launched a Dolby Atmos soundbar in India, the ‘Infini Pro’. The soundbar comes with 18 Months warranty and is available on Flipkart. It is priced at Rs 15,999.

Coming to the specifications of the soundbar, it does not come with a subwoofer, something we saw with the Sony HT-X8500 Dolby Atmos Soundbar (review).

Coming to the specifications of the Infini Pro the soundbar has two 2.5-inch midrange drivers and 1-inch tweeters. It also has built-in up-facing 3-inch subwoofers. On either side of the soundbar, there are symmetrical bass reflex ports. Soundcore claims that “to add even more bass intensity, Infini Pro is integrated with exclusive BassUp technology: a customized digital signal processor that enhances bass output in real-time”. The soundbar has 120W output.

Coming to connectivity options, the soundbar features two HDMI ports - one is the ARC port to connect to your TV and the other is a 4K HDR enabled pass-through port. With the pass-through port, you can connect a device like the Fire TV Stick, Set-top-box or even a Blu-ray player directly to the soundbar.

Other connectivity options for the soundbar include AUX, Bluetooth 5 and Optical. The soundbar comes with three modes – Movie Mode, Music Mode, and Voice Mode. The soundbar comes with a remote control, but users can use the Soundcore App to control the soundbar.

When it comes to the design, the Infini Pro is “wrapped in a discreet black fabric to allow it to blend effortlessly with home interiors”. From its design, it does resemble the Yamaha YAS-109.

Another Dolby Atmos enabled soundbar at the 15k price segment is the Zebronics Zeb-Juke Bar 9700 Pro Dolby Atmos Soundbar. In our review of the Zebronics Zeb-Juke Bar 9700 Pro Dolby Atmos Soundbar we said that what the soundbar “has going for it is good connectivity options, a simple plug and play setup and support for Dolby Atmos decoding. While the Dolby Atmos performance is gimmicky, the bass-heavy nature of the soundbar makes it hard to recommend for all. If you don't want the additional HDMI pass-through ports and are looking for a surround sound experience, you can check out the similarly priced Sony HT-S20R. It is a 5.1 soundbar with dedicated surround speakers and has better overall sound output”.
