MediaTek to introduce mid-tier 5G chipsets in first half of 2021: Report

A week ago, MediaTek unveiled its new Dimensity chips for flagship smartphones. But if information circulating the rumour mills is to be believed, the company is not yet done. MediaTek is all set to release not one but two new 5G chipsets in the first half of 2021.

The new chips will be less powerful than Dimensity 1100 and 1200 SoC, as the new chips are targeted at mid-tier smartphones. According to Digitimes the upgraded version of MediaTek 800 and 700 chipsets will be announced in Q2 of 2021. The upgraded Dimensity 700 is expected to be introduced in early Q2 2021, while the Dimensity 800 is expected to be announced at the MWC 2021.

The new chips are going to support sub-6GHz 5G, and not the mmWave 5G. While the sub-6Ghz 5G is faster than 4G networks it is not as fast as the mmWave. the sub-6Ghz supports enhanced multimedia capabilities and improved gaming performance than the previous generation. The other benefit being that the sub-6Ghz 5G can penetrate objects and offers a longer range making it easier for the carriers to implement this variant of the 5G network.

The new chips are to be developed using matured 10/12nm technology process at TSMC, as reported by sources.

MWC 2021 is no longer going to take place in the first quarter of this year and now has been moved to the end of June (28 June - 1 July), but the dates are not yet confirmed and are tentative as of now.

Indian government questions WhatsApp on disparity in treatment between Indians and Europeans over new privacy policy

The Indian government, on Monday, informed Delhi High Court that WhatsApp's treatment in regards to opting out of its new privacy policy is different for Indians when compared to Europeans and this is concerning.

The central government told the court that it is looking into the issue as the disparity in treatment is a serious matter of concern. It said that the users in India were being "unilaterally" subjected to the change in the privacy policy by WhatsApp, whereas it's not the same for Europeans.

As per PTI report, the submissions were made before Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva by Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Chetan Sharma during the hearing of a petition by a lawyer against WhatsApp's new privacy policy. The new policy has been receiving a strong backlash in India soon after its rollout.

Under the new policy, users can either accept it or leave the app, but they cannot opt not to share their data with other Facebook-owned or third-party apps.

What happened at the hearing?

At the beginning of the hearing, the court reiterated its previous statement that WhatsApp is not a mandatory-to-download app, it's people's personal choice to download it or not. The court also noted that the Personal Data Protection Bill is being considered by the Parliament and government is already looking into the issues highlighted in the plea.

ASG Sharma told the court that by not giving an option to opt-out of the policy appears to be treating users with an "all or nothing approach". He said, "insofar the government is concerned, while the privacy policy offered by WhatsApp to its European users specifically prohibits the use of any information shared with other Facebook companies." However, this clause was not found in the privacy policy terms shown to the Indian users.

"This differential treatment is certainly a cause of concern for the government. It is also a matter of concern for the government that Indian users are being unilaterally subjected to the changes in the privacy policy," the ASG told the court.

"This leverages the social significance of WhatsApp to force users into a bargain which may infringe on their interests in information privacy and information security," he added.

Sharma also said the government was already looking into the issue and has sent a communication to WhatsApp about the same. Kapil Sibbal, senior advocate appearing for WhatsApp told the court that the communication has been received and the company will have a response soon.

The court, thereafter, scheduled the matter for hearing on March 1.

FAU-G or Fearless and United Guards have seen an overwhelming response from the fans. The game is backed by popular Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and is being promoted under PM Narendra Modi's "Atmanirbhar Bharat" campaign, which has emphasized on getting vocal for local products and services.

Here's how to download FAU-G on Android

Downloading FAU-G is like downloading any other app from the Google Play Store. The game will be available on Play Store on 26th January, so this method will only work once the game is released.

Go to Google Play Store Search for FAU-G and click on "FAU-G: Fearless and United Guards" by developer Studio nCore. Makes sure you check for the developer as there are tons of clones that might confuse you. From the FAU-G's Play Store listing page, locate and click on the Install button.

If you have already pre-registered for the game, you will be notified when the game goes live. Users who have selected the option to install the game as it gets available while pre-registering do not need to follow these steps. Users running Android OS version older than 8 may not be able to install the game.

What we know about FAU-G

The details about the game are still scarce but we now know that the game will not offer a battle royale gameplay like PUBG Mobile. It will rather be a single-player level-based mission game that aims to focus on the exploits of the Indian Army in various theatres of battle.

However, the only level confirmed as of now is the "Galwan" level which is based on the clash that happened between the Indian and Chinese forces in the Galwan Valley in Ladakh. The game is said to have an increased focus on melee combat as shown in the teaser .
