The Snyder Cut of the Justice League will premier on HBO Max on March 18

When the Justice League film first came out, fans were surprised that the tone of the film did not match the tone set by Zack Snyder for the DCEU. The film was essentially retooled by Joss Whedon and was a bit of a mess. Since then, fans have demanded that Warner Bros. release the Zack Snyder cut of the film. In a stunning move, Warner Bros. decided to release the Snyder cut of Justice League to HBO Max. And, according to the director himself, we’ve now got a concrete release date.

The Snyder cut of Justice League will hit the streaming service on March 18. The sad thing is that HBO Max is still not available in India, so fans may have to wait for a bit before the film hits Indian shores. There has been no international release date announced yet. Nor has there been any news on which streaming platform it will finally end up on in India. Director Zack Snyder did state that they are planning on releasing the film internationally, so we’ll definitely have our fingers crossed for that.

Since the film was announced, we’ve got a few bits of information from the film, including a redesigned Steppenwolf and the first appearance of Darkseid. While the film may not be the Citizen Kane of superhero films, it will be nice to see the original vision Zack Snyder had for the Justice League. You can check out the black and white trailer for the Snyder cut of the Justice League below.

OG gaming channel G4 is looking to make a comeback with a weekly series on YouTube and Twitch

For gamers in the mid-2000s, G4 was the place to be for gaming news and reviews. The channel was one of the first to be solely focused on video games and really put gaming out into the mainstream. With shows like Attack of the Show! And X-Play, the channel quickly garnered a ton of viewers. But, bad management and line-up changes saw ratings dip until G4 was replaced by something else. In fact, the show ICONS even had a segment on the rise and subsequent fall of the channel. But, according to a report on the Verge, it seems that the channel might be planning a comeback soon.

G4 will broadcast shows and new content on YouTube and Twitch

The company announced that it was launching a new series called B4G4 on January 29. The show will air on YouTube and Twitch.  B4G4 is essentially a lead-up to the full launch of the gaming network in summer. The show will feature game reviews, news, skits, original content and much more. And, if you happen to be a fan, you will be able to discuss the show on the network’s Reddit channel as well. The return of the channel was even teased last year.

The thing is, in the time G4 has been away, the internet has basically taken over. Shows like the Angry Joe Show, Digital Foundry, Rooster Teeth and tons of other channels have filled that space. So, it remains to be seen how G4 plans to stand out in a relatively crowed market, right now.

Netflix is testing out a new feature called Sleep Timer

Ever fall asleep while watching a Netflix show? Well, the streaming giant is here to make things a little easier. Netflix has just launched a test on Android devices that will allow users to set a ‘sleep timer’. With four different timer settings, the feature is limited to a few global users right now. You can select between 15 minute, 30 minute and 45-minute timers. You can also set the timer to whenever an episode or film ends.

Netflix Sleep Timer allows users to select 3 timeframes

This means that you can actually follow a show and not be left wondering where it left off. As of now, Netflix has said that it will look at expanding the feature to the desktop and other devices. These include TVs as well. Depending on how well users adopt this feature, we could be seeing it on Indian shores soon enough. If you’re one of the lucky few who do have the feature enabled on their Android devices. Here’s how you can use it.

Play any show or film on Netflix You will notice a ‘timer’ icon in the upper right corner Click on the Timer Select 15, 30, 45 minutes, or “Finish Show.”

The feature is currently only available on adult profiles but could show up in the Kids profile as well. Netflix is also looking at enhancing the audio experience on Android devices. Netflix now streams using xHE-AAC on Android devices as well. You can read more about that here. The streaming giant has also recently hit 200 million subscribers, here’s how Netflix changed the game in India.

Garena Free Fires new Beaston pet now available to players

Garena Free Fire’s newest pet, Beaston, is now available to players in India. To recall, the pet was visible to all players in the pet selection screen, but was not available for purchase. Now though, the new pet is finally available in India. Beaston is available for 699 Diamonds, which is the same as all the other pets in the game except for Mechanical Pup and Kitty.

Beaston was unveiled earlier this month and resembles a cybernetic baboon. However, the moments seem more akin to a gorilla.

Skills and actions

As with many other pets, Beaston comes with a special skill that he grants to the player. Beaston’s skill is called ‘Helping Hand’. This increases the throwing distance of Grenades, Gloo Walls, Flashbangs, and Smoke Grenades. The percentage increase that players can expect will change depending on the level that Beaston is at.

Beaston also has three available actions that can be performed. These are triggers automatically, or activated via the command wheel. This includes ‘Celebration’ that occurs when the player kills an enemy or takes a medkit. The second is a ‘Play’ action that can be manually triggered via the command wheel. The third is called ‘Show’ which is also triggered via the command wheel. These are unlocked when Beaston reaches level two, three and four, respectively.

Strategy

As one might expect, Beaston’s Helping Hand skill would be completely wasted on players who do not use grenades. As such the pet is best used by grenadiers. Further, Beaston would make a good pairing with the Alvaro character. That’s because Alvaro’s passive ability, Art of Demolition, offers increased explosive damage and damage range. This, combined with Beaston’s boost to grenade throwing range, would allow players to rain explosive damage at range. Thereby troubling even those hiding behind Gloo Walls. Apple iOS 14 introduces BlastDoor Sandbox security system to iMessage

In the past, there have been various instances where security researchers revealed that a “string of texts” received over SMS could crash your phone or worse, send it into a boot-loop. These kinds of exploits have been reported at least once every year for both iOS and Android smartphones but turns out, iOS 14 has a way to thwarting these kinds of exploits for good, thanks to a system called BlastDoor.

Discovered by a Google Project Zero researched named Samuel Groß, BlastDoor works by parsing all the data contained in an iMessage in a secure sandbox, isolated from the rest of the operating system. By doing so, the contents of the iMessage, if nefarious, won’t have an impact on the OS. All apps installed on an iOS device exist in their own sandboxes, which governed by very tight policies. The BlastDoor sandbox for iMessage has been designed to thwart most exploits which either use brute force or exploit the shared cache on iOS.  Groß says he found the existence of BlastDoor when investigating a hacking campaign against Al Jazeera journalists. There were instances where the hacks did not work and the common thread appeared to be the fact that they were running iOS 14 on their iPhones.

While BlastDoor sandbox definitely makes iMessage more secure, it does not do much for the traditional SMS. Last year in April 2020, a text-based exploit was discovered which could be initiated via a normal SMS. A string of characters written in Sindhi when received as an SMS would freeze iOS completely, rendering the person’s iPhone/iPad completely useless till the OS would crash, and the device could be rebooted. This was due to a bug in iOS, one which Apple has since fixed, but it highlights how the short messaging service format is still a likely vector for delivering exploits.

Messaging apps have been a popular point of intrusion into smartphones for several years now. We’ve seen text message string crash phones, brick them permanently, lock them temporarily, and in one case, even serve as a means of gaining full access to the device. The now infamous Pegasus used a vulnerability in WhatsApp, allowing the hacker full access to a target smartphone, all done remotely. The BlastDoor sandbox for iMessage introduced in iOS14 should prevent some, if not all intrusion and malicious events.
