How to unlock iPhone using Face ID without taking your mask off on iOS 145 Beta

Apple released the first developer beta of the iOS 14.5 and watchOS 7.4, and they are said to bring a much-anticipated update that allows users to unlock the iPhone with a mask on.

Folks at 9to5Mac report that iPhone users having Watch Series 3 or later might soon be able to unlock their phone without needing to remove the mask, but there's a caveat. Although the public beta for the iOS 14.5 and watchOS 7.4 is not yet available, it is expected to release as soon as this week. The public release is said to arrive in the next few months.

How does this work?

As mentioned, the newly added integration between the iPhone and Apple Watch will work in tandem to make this feature work.

If you get your hands on the beta version of the software, just head over to the Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Turn the toggle on, and then you will be able to unlock the iPhone wearing a mask. But you need to ensure that the Apple Watch has a passcode enabled, it is on your wrist, unlocked and near the phone.

Also, note that you won't be able to unlock your iPhone if the Apple Watch wrist detection feature is disabled. Once enabled, you'll get a haptic feedback notification on your watch to notify that the iPhone was unlocked using the watch, and you can quickly "lock the iPhone" via that notification in case it's unlocked accidentally.

Ever since the pandemic hit, users having devices relying primarily on facial biometrics to unlock have were forced to use an alternate way of unlocking the devices, which not only slows the process but is also inconvenient. Apple, as a solution, added a tiny update that prompts you to input the numeric pin as it detects the user is wearing a mask, but that's didn't turn out to be as helpful.

Since COVID-19 has shown the issues with FaceID, Apple is reportedly bringing back the TouchID on future iPhones. You can read more about it here.

Information circulating the internet suggests that Redmi could launch the Redmi Smart TV X55 and the Redmi Smart TV X65 in India. The same launched in China back in 2020. Unlike Xiaomi, which has taken a localization approach to its TVs, could we see the same models that launched in China launch in India?

Redmi Smart TV X55, Redmi Smart TV X65: Specifications

Both the 55 and 65-inch Redmi Smart TV have the same specifications with the only difference being the screen size. It sports a metal frame and boasts of a 97 percent of screen-to-body ratio. The TVs also boast of far-field mics which let you control the TV without resorting to the remote control. We have seen this feature in a TV like the TCL C715 (review) and also the LG GX (review) to name a few.

The Redmi Smart TVs boast of four 12.5W speakers paired along with four low-frequency speakers and two tweeters. The TV brings with it support for Dolby Audio and DTS: HD. It is a 4K TV with support for HDR. The TVs have a refresh rate of 60Hz. The TV supports Bluetooth 5, dual-band Wi-Fi and comes with 3 HDMI ports and 2 USB ports for your connectivity needs.

Under the hood, the Redmi Smart TV is powered by a quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM and comes with 32GB built-in storage.

Redmi TV expected price and launch date

As per the leak, the Redmi Smart TV 55-inch and 65-inch will be available as early as March. While there is no information on the price, it is expected to be priced competitively. To put things into perspective, we can get a 55-inch TV from Rs 40,000 to Rs 55,000 depending on the brand and features on offer. Similarly, you can get a 65-inch TV between 55,000 and Rs 70,000 depending on the brand and features. It will be interesting to see how Redmi prices their TV especially when you can now get the Mi QLED TV 4K (review) for Rs 55,000.
