Huawei is looking at developing a next-gen gaming console and gaming laptop, according to leakster on Weibo

The video game industry is one of the largest in the world. It regularly brings in more revenue than movies, music and other media combined. So, it is natural that companies want in on the action. Which is why it isn’t at all surprising that Huawei is looking at making a splash in the gaming market. According to a tipster called @Tomato Prince on Weibo, Huawei is looking at releasing a full-fledged gaming console. It will allegedly go up against the likes of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. The leakster also suggested that Huawei is also looking at releasing a gaming laptop.

Huawei gaming console leak

The company is seriously considering taking on the likes of Sony and Microsoft with its console. There is no official word on what the specs will be or if it even exists. But, it is interesting that Huawei is looking at developing a console that is at par with market leaders like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. According to a report on Gizmochina, Huawei did jump into the gaming laptop market with the Honor V700 gaming laptop. But the sub-brand has since been sold, leaving Huawei without a gaming laptop of its own. This move seems to mark Huawei’s first steps into the gaming world. And, it will be interesting to see how the Chinese mobile giant fares.

Huawei gaming laptop

Nothing to kickstart its journey with wireless earbuds launching this summer

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei announced his new company called Nothing earlier this year. Now, Carl has confirmed that the first product to launch out of Nothing’s stable is a pair of wireless earbuds. The company has previously revealed that it will launch smart devices in the first half of 2021.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Carl has confirmed that wireless earbuds will be the first product to launch by Nothing sometime by summer. “We’re building an ecosystem of smart devices. We’ll start with simpler products, wireless earbuds. We’re going to have multiple products throughout the year, not just audio products, and eventually, we want to build it so these devices talk to each other,” Carl said.

Welcome to GV. @nothing is building an ecosystem of smart consumer devices — https://t.co/poQNgO5QRF

— GV (@GVteam) February 9, 2021

Carl left OnePlus in October 2020 to work on a new consumer electronics brand. Since then, he has secured investments to the tune of $22 million from key players including Steve Huffman (Reddit), Kevin Lin (Twitch), Tony Fadell (inventor of iPod), Youtuber Casey Neistat and Kunal Shah (CRED). Earlier this week, Nothing raised $15 million in Series A round funding led by GV which is Alphabet’s venture capital arm.

There is a surge of new TWS earbuds around the world with smartphone and audio companies taking a shot at making wireless earphones more accessible and affordable. Are Nothing's earbuds just another OnePlus Buds competitor or will it take on the giants with superior audio performance? It remains to be seen how Nothing plans to put a dent in this particular product category. You can read more about Carl Pei's Nothing here.

Xiaomi to unveil new audio products on February 22 in India

Xiaomi will launch new audio products on February 22 in India. The company has sent out invites to the media for the upcoming announcement which is scheduled for February 22 at 12 PM. Xiaomi has not exactly revealed which audio products it is going to launch but we should start hearing about them in the heads up to the launch.

Xiaomi is sending out invites with a teaser poster titled “The Mi Sound Unveil”. Interestingly, we can notice two wired earphones placed at the top-left and bottom-right corners hinting at the possibility that a new pair of earphones may arrive soon.

Did you hear that? A new sound wave, coming soon. The #MiSoundUnveil | 12 PM on 22.02.2021 Stay tuned! pic.twitter.com/6wZTUNnZBl

— Mi India #Mi10i is Here! (@XiaomiIndia) February 11, 2021

We also get to see a grille mesh design in the middle which is likely a speaker though it remains unclear how it will actually look like. Xiaomi has been expanding its audio catalogue from a while now, and it currently offers a wide range of audio products to choose from. There’s the Mi Soundbar for televisions, Mi and Redmi branded wired/wireless earphones, Wireless headphones, TWS earphones Bluetooth speakers, smart speakers and more.

For once, the rumour mill is silent on what products Xiaomi is planning to launch on February 22. Having said that, Xiaomi India MD, Manu Kumar Jain has confirmed that they will announce two new audio products in the coming weeks. It remains to be seen which audio products Xiaomi plans to launch but given that there are ten days between now and the launch date, Xiaomi could start releasing teasers officially next week onwards.

Xiaomi has also teased the launch of the Redmi Note 10 series in India sometime in March. You can read more about that here.
