Nothing will announce something later today

Nothing, Carl Pei’s new venture is all set to announce something later today. As per a report, Nothing Technologies Limited has acquired now-defunct smartphone brand Essential headed by Andy Rubin. Essential released its first smartphone back in 2017, the Essential Phone with impressive titanium and ceramic design. However, the phone was discontinued in 2018 and in February 2020, the company shut down.

According to a UK Intellectual Property Office listing spotted by 9to5Google, Andy Rubin has transferred ownership of Essential to Nothing on January 6. This means that the Essential brand is now owned by Carl’s company and indicates the possibility of a Nothing smartphone based on patents by Essential. It’s a long shot but the company could eventually work on smartphones.

Nothing will launch wireless earbuds as its first smart device in the first half of 2021. As per trademark filings by the company, Nothing could launch mobiles, laptops, TV, wearables, audio products and other IoT devices in the future.

At the time, Essential had been working on its second smartphone under Project Gem which was a candy bar-style phone along with a smart home hub and speakers. It remains to be seen how Nothing utilizes Essential as it also aimed to create an ecosystem of connected products before shutting down.

Carl’s new venture Nothing has secured investments to the tune of $22 million from key players including GV (Alphabet’s venture capital arm), Steve Huffman (Reddit), Kevin Lin (Twitch), Tony Fadell (inventor of iPod), Youtuber Casey Neistat and Kunal Shah (CRED).

Carl has previously confirmed that wireless earbuds will be the first product to launch by Nothing sometime in summer. “We’re building an ecosystem of smart devices. We’ll start with simpler products, wireless earbuds. We’re going to have multiple products throughout the year, not just audio products, and eventually, we want to build it so these devices talk to each other,” he said.

Xiaomi Mi 11 with flat screen leaked in new image: report

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite is at the centre of a new leak yet again, this time allegedly showing off its flat-screen design. The Mi 11 Lite is said to be a toned-down version in the Mi 11 lineup and while the Mi 11 has made its global debut, the Lite and Pro models in the series are yet to be launched by Xiaomi.

According to a post on Weibo by Digital Chat Station, the Mi 11 Lite looks similar to the Mi 11 as far as the back panel goes, however, the display is not curved and is instead flat with a punch-hole cutout in the top-left corner. There’s also a slightly noticeable chin at the bottom so it doesn’t exactly look bezel-less.

We have previously seen similar pictures of the purported Mi 11 Lite with a flat display and it is rumoured to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G processor. The phone is expected to have triple cameras on the back with a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 5MP camera.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite leaked specifications

The Mi 11 Lite is rumoured to have a 6.67-inch Full HD+ resolution display with support for 120Hz refresh rate. The fingerprint sensor is either under the screen or is embedded with the power button on the side.

It has been leaked to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G processor with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 618 GPU. This will likely be paired with 6GB/8GB RAM and up to 128GB storage.

The Mi 11 Lite is expected to have three cameras on the back starting with a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 5MP macro camera. On the front, there could be a 16Mp selfie camera.

The phone is likely to have stereo speakers and could be equipped with a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging support.

A separate report also indicates that Xiaomi may be working on the Mi 11 Ultra which has a small secondary display on the back. You can read more about that here.

Realme Narzo 30 series India launch timeline leaked company reveals retail box in new teaser

The Realme Nazro 30 series has been in the news for a few weeks now. The series is tipped to bring with itself three new phones, the Narzo 30, Narzo 30 Pro, and the Narzo 30A. According to reports, the three devices have already received the required certifications and are now looking at an imminent launch.

While there is no official confirmation of the launch date yet, a report by MySmartPrice has claimed the series could go official by the last week of February – between February 21 and 28.

This launch timeline looks likely as the company has started teasing the device aggressively, with Realme's CEO Madhav Sheth already showing off the retail packaging of the device via a Twitter post. Interestingly, the design of the box was chosen by the company after 15,000 users voted to pick their favourite one among four possible designs. The final retail packaging design revealed by the company shows the box in sky blue in colour with Narzo 30 branding plastered on it.

Young Players have made their choice! More than 15,000 Gaming Enthusiasts voted for their favourite Narzo smartphone box. Stay tuned for the next update! pic.twitter.com/j3cxqPfs78

— Madhav FutureX (@MadhavSheth1) February 15, 2021

Apart from this, there's nothing else that's been confirmed about the Narzo 30 series phones. However, the company has already given enough hints about the series coming with support for 5G upon launch. While all the devices are not expected to come with 5G, the Narzo 30 Pro is being tipped to support the technology. This is also something that has also been claimed in the report. The publication has claimed that one of the smartphones in the Narzo 30 series will come with 5G support.

This is also something that's been mentioned previously in Narzo 30 Pro’s TENAA certification. The certification had previously specified 5G support and had also taken the lid off the live images of the smartphone. These images had hinted that the phone could come with a quad-camera setup at the back.

Realme Narzo 30 Pro expected specifications

Talking about the expected specifications of the Realme Narzo 30 Pro, the TENAA listing suggests the phone is likely to come with a 6.5-inch display, Android 11 OS, and a 4,800mAh battery. The panel is also tipped to come with a single punch-hole cutout at the top left corner for the selfie shooter. The phone could also come with an in-display or side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security.

Apple to continue with iPhone 13 mini plans despite poor iPhone 12 mini sales, may discontinue iPhone SE

Apple launched its iPhone 12 mini smartphone towards the end of last year to much fanfare. Launched alongside three other phones -- iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max -- this compact flagship from Apple was the first phone from the company to sport the "mini" moniker. This gave it a unique identity, one that was expected not only to fill the demand for a compact phone but also provide a well-specced yet affordable alternative for price-sensitive markets.

However, as it turns out, the iPhone 12 mini did not do as well as it was initially expected to. Recent reports have suggested the market performance of the device has been so underwhelming that Apple is even flirting with the idea of discontinuing the iPhone 12 mini.

A new report has also put more weight behind the claim, but it's said that Apple is still looking at launching an iPhone 13 mini later this year. The new information comes courtesy of trusted tipster, Jon Prosser, who in his recent Front Page Tech video, explained that Apple plans to stop making the iPhone 12 mini next quarter, but only because it has already met the demand for the year.

Although, he claims that this move will not be binding and Apple is open to restarting production for the iPhone 12 mini at a later date if needed. Further, he claims that it also has plans to launch an iPhone 13 mini as a successor to the iPhone 12 mini launched in October 2020.

While recent reports suggest that the iPhone 12 mini couldn't record promising sale numbers, Prosser claims Apple has enough reasons to go ahead with the iPhone 13 mini, with one of them being company's belief that there are people who want a compact phone. However, to ensure that there is a demand for the iPhone 13 mini, Apple could very likely discontinue the iPhone SE this year as it believes the affordable device could cannibalise sales for the more expensive iPhone 13 mini. Although, Prosser does add that if there is a new iPhone SE in 2021, it could very well be called the iPhone SE plus. In this case, Apple is likely to make fewer iPhone 13 mini devices in anticipation of reduced demand for the next mini iPhone.
