Garena has now revealed the e-sports roadmap for 2021. It should be noted that these are only the international tournaments, and the company will presumably host regional tournaments over the course of the year.

According to the roadmap, Garena will host three major international tournaments over the course of the year. This includes two editions of the Free Fire World Series (FFWS) and one edition of the Free Fire All Stars. The Free Fire World Series is scheduled to be held in April and May, while the Free Fire All Stars tournament will be held in July.

Garena Free Fire has revealed its international roadmap for 2021

Garena Free Fire World Series tournament

The Free Fire World Series kicked off in 2019 and has become Garena’s flagship series. The event was replaced with the Free Fire Continental Series due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, FFWS will return this year and feature a brand-new logo to boot.

The April edition of the Free Fire World Series will kick off from April 24. The Finals for the same will be held on May 1. Garena plans to expand from the initial roster of nine regions and include 22 teams of 13 regions in this year’s edition. This includes places like the Middle East, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The prize pool has also increased to $2,000,000, which is approximately Rs 14,46,80,500.

Garena Free Fire All Stars tournament

The Free Fire All Stars aims to bring together top influencers and professional players from around the world. It will then pit them against each other to see who is the best. Garena should reveal details of the tournament in the coming months.

As mentioned earlier, these three are only the International events planned by Garena. The company will still hold regional tournaments all throughout the year. In India, the company plans to hold four tournaments. In chronological order, this will be the Garena Free Fire India Championship 2021 Spring, Free Fire Pro League 2021 Summer, Free Fire India Championship 2021 Fall, Free Fire Pro League Winter.

Sony confirms PSVR 2 for PS5, will come with a new controller

Sony has officially confirmed the next generation PSVR headset. The new headset will connect via a single cable to the PS5, and the new controller for the PSVR headset will incorporate features found on the DualSense Controller. In an official blog post, Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President, Platform Planning & Management, said, “Today I’m pleased to share that our next-generation VR system will be coming to PlayStation 5, enabling the ultimate entertainment experience with dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity. Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset”.

PSVR 2 specifications and features

The blog post highlights an early look at some features we can expect from the second generation PSVR headset. To begin with, you will no longer have to deal with a bundle of cables and a break-out box to connect the headset to the console. The second-generation PSVR headset will connect to the PS5 (review) via a single cable. The headset’s resolution will also see a bump, and users can expect to have a higher field of view as well. Needless to say, VR games on the PS5 will sport higher fidelity.

Unlike the first generation PSVR headset, which relied on the Move Controllers launched during the PS3 era, the PSVR 2 will have a new controller with features found on the DualSense. The DualSense controller brings incredible haptic feedback along with Adaptive Triggers for an immersive gaming experience. It will be interesting to see how developers add to the immersion with high fidelity visuals and controls that give you feedback.

Introducing the next generation of VR on PlayStation: https://t.co/gaUarkeJZJ pic.twitter.com/IBToCWnOaV

— PlayStation (@PlayStation) February 23, 2021

The first generation PSVR headset was a good entry point for those that wanted to experience VR gaming but couldn’t afford a state-of-the-art gaming PC and headset. While the PSVR headset offered some immersive experiences in the form of Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Tetris Effect, Blood & Truth, Moss, Beat Saber, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and many more, the limitations in comparison to PC VR were felt when Half-Life Alyx (review) launched. Can we expect to see Half-Life Alyx on PSVR 2?

PSVR 2 launch date and price

Sony has confirmed that the PSVR 2 will not launch in 2021. The blog post reads, “There’s still a lot of development underway for our new VR system, so it won’t be launching in 2021”. In an interview with GQ, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan said, “Dev kits (for the new PSVR headset) are about to go out”. So we can expect the headset to launch in 2022. There is no information on the price, but we can expect the headset to have competitive pricing.

LG opens its WebOS platform to other TV manufacturers, could give Android TV some serious competition

LG has announced that its WebOS platform will now be available on TVs that are not made by LG. The South Korean tech giant has announced that the WebOS TV platform ecosystem will be licensed to other brands. More than 20 TV manufacturers from around the world have “committed to the webOS partnership, including brands such as RCA, Ayonz and Konka with more partners expected to join in the future”.

At CES 2021, LG unveiled WebOS 6, the newest version of its TV OS which will be available on LG’s 2021 TV lineup.

Will LG WebOS 6 be licensed to OEMs?

According to the Verge, “the “powered by webOS TV” platform is based on webOS 5.0. So it’ll look just the same as LG TVs from the last several years”. While this is the same UI we have seen on TVs like the LG GX (review) and LG C9 (review), it is still a good and fluid UI for TVs. It has a card like layout which occupies the bottom of the screen giving you access to apps and services.

LG’s WebOS offers access to a voice assistant and also supports LG’s Magic Remote which makes navigating the UI a breeze. The UI also has a home dashboard, letting you control smart home appliances from the comfort of the TV. You can also configure IFTTT devices to the home dashboard.

In India, we have a lot of budget TVs dominated by Android TV UI. We have also seen some TVs like the Akai 43-inch TV (review) running on the Fire TV UI. Xiaomi offers customers PatchWall and Android TV UI. It will be interesting to see how LG’s WebOS competes with Android, especially in the budget segment, where we have seen Android TV lag on some TVs. While Android TVs do have the advantage of the app ecosystem, we may see more developers optimizing and porting their apps to WebOS to ensure a wider reach.

There were already rumours floating around that a few PlayStation exclusives were making their way to the PC. On a more personal level, we really hope that Bloodborne comes to the PC in glorious 60 fps. The game is currently available on the PS4 and can be played on the PS5 via backwards compatibility. It has not received any next-gen upgrades and still plays at 30fps. We’re hoping that it comes to the PC, so we can finally explore Yharnam in sweet, sweet 4K 60 fps. Also, can you imagine God of War 2018 on a PC? Be still our beating hearts. Other games that could make their way to the PC include the Persona series, the older God of War games and much more. We will only find out more in the coming months.

All these games are actually playable on the PS5 as well, via backwards compatibility. Most of these PS4 games will also come with a next-gen upgrade, giving players access to higher frame rates and resolutions. If you did not manage to get a PS5 when it launched in India, here is when the PS5 could be restocked in India. You can also check out our review of the console in the video below.
