JioPhone 2021 offer announced, promises 2 years of unlimited data and JioPhone at Rs 1,999
In a bid to bring new subscribers to its network, telecom operator Reliance Jio has today announced the new "JioPhone 2021 Offer" which will be available from March 1. The new offer is an extension of Jio's plans to upgrade millions of 2G users in India to the more advanced 4G baseband that the company's network operates on. Jio claims to have successfully upgraded more than 100 million users to its 4G platform to date. However, it now plans to upgrade three times this number to its 4G network with the help of its JioPhone 2021 offer.
Speaking about this new offer, Akash Ambani, Director, Reliance Jio, commented, "There are still 300 million subscribers in India who remain trapped in the 2G era, unable to access basic features of the internet, at a time, when the world stands at the cusp of a 5G revolution. Since the last 4 years, Jio has democratised the internet and passed on the benefits of technology to every Indian. Technology no longer remains a privilege of a select few. The New JioPhone 2021 offer is another step in that direction. At Jio, we have and will continue to take bold steps to eradicate this digital divide and welcome every Indian to join this movement."
What is the new JioPhone 2021 offer?Under the new JioPhone 2021 offer, the telecom operator is offering a JioPhone with 24 months of unlimited service at a one-time price of Rs 1,999. As part of the offer, new subscribers will be extended a number of benefits, including unlimited voice calls and 2GB high-speed data every day for a period of two years. In fact, the company is pegging this offer as one where the subscriber will not have to get a recharge for the first two years. The only cost associated will be the Rs 1,999 initial payment for the device.
Interestingly, Reliance Jio is also offering a one-year plan under the JioPhone 2021 offer. For this, subscribers will have to shell out Rs 1,499 as a one-time payment and in return, the telecom operator will provide them with the JioPhone device and 12 months of unlimited service which will include unlimited voice calls and 2GB of high-speed data daily for usage.
Additionally, Jio has also announced a plan for existing Jio users. Under this, existing JioPhone users can get the same 2GB daily data and unlimited calls for a year, but at a more affordable price of Rs 749. However, under this third plan, the company will not be bundling a free JioPhone for use as the plan can only be activated on existing JioPhone numbers.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Lite visits Geekbench with a Snapdragon 750G SoC
Geekbench is usually a very good platform to spot upcoming devices. A lot of unannounced devices including smartphones, laptops, and tablets visit Geekbench when someone ends up running the benchmark while testing it before the release. This time, a new Samsung tablet has shown up on Geekbench, revealing some key specifications.
The tablet in the discussion here is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Lite. It popped up on Geekbench with model number SM-T736B. This is said to be the 5G variant of the table, and it looks like Samsung will end up bringing the Wi-Fi and LTE variants too.
Looking at the listing, the tablet seems to be running on the Snapdragon 750G chip with a base frequency of 1.80Ghz. The SoC is coupled with 4GB RAM, and it is running on Android 11 OS. As you can see, the device has managed to show a single-core score of 650 and a multi-core score of 1694. Here, check it out -
This is the same processor that's also powering some other phones like the Xiaomi Mi 10i 5G, Motorola Moto G 5G, and many others. It's a very capable processor, so it'll be interesting to see how the tablet will perform when it comes out.
This isn't the first time we're hearing about the Galaxy Tab S7, by the way. An earlier leak had pointed that the tablet will arrive with a 12.4-inch display, and it will be packed with some good features like 5G support and Samsung's Galaxy Continuity that lets users use the tablet as a secondary device with a Galaxy phone.
The Galaxy Tab S7 Lite should be an interesting offering considering the fact that the original Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus were excellent devices. The Galaxy Tab S7 Lite is speculated to come out sometime in June this year, so let's wait till we get more info about the device leading up to its launch.

Sony will reportedly unlock the PS5s SSD in the summer of 2021
The PS5 comes with 825GB SSD storage with a mere 667GB available to the user. This means you can have no more than a few games on the internal SSD at a given time. Most popular AAA games are about 40-50GB in size, with games like Call of Duty crossing the 100GB barrier. The PS5 (review) has an M.2 expansion slot, but the expansion option was locked when the console launched. According to a Bloomberg report, Sony is looking to grant users access to the expansion slot this summer via a firmware update.
According to the Bloomberg report, “Adding support for additional drives will be enabled with a firmware update that also unlocks higher cooling-fan speeds to ensure the console doesn’t overheat, the people said, asking not to be named because the plans are not yet public”. So, it looks like in addition to granting users access to the expansion options, Sony could also increase the cooling fan’s speed to ensure the drive doesn’t get too hot.
Sony could unlock PS5 SSD storage M.2 driveConsidering the fast speed of the PS5’s SSD, users will have to check for compatibility before investing in an M.2 drive. During the GDC 2020 PS5 talk, Lead System Architect for the PS5 Mark Cerny said that M.2 drivers were being tested for compatibility. We think Sony will shed light on the required specifications for the expansion drive before releasing the update. While the PS5 does support an external USB 3 drive, it is only to store and playback PS4 games. Users cannot use it to back up PS5 games, which is a bummer.
Microsoft, on the other hand, has gone with a proprietary approach. The proprietary 1TB expansion card for the Xbox Series X/S costs a whopping Rs 23,499 in India. To put things into perspective, the Xbox Series S is priced at Rs 34,990. However, Xbox gamers can back up Xbox Series X (review) games to an external drive and copy them back to the internal drive when they want to play the games, adding a bit of convenience to those that don't want to invest in the native storage expansion.
Both Sony and Microsoft have launched their respective consoles in India, but both of them will be scarce for the foreseeable future. You can learn why, here.

Google tipped to release new foldable Pixel phone, likely to launch by the end of this year
The foldable phone segment is surely picking up pace. Over the past two years, we've seen a number of new foldable phones being launched, with players such as Samsung and Motorola coming out with their own products in the market. And now, it looks like another big player will soon enter the fray with its own foldable phone.
As per a new leak, this player will be Google, with the leak confirming that the tech giant is indeed working on a foldable Pixel phone. The information comes courtesy of trusted tipster, Jon Prosser, who has claimed in a tweet that the rumoured Google Pixel foldable smartphone, rumoured to launch in the fourth quarter of 2021, is indeed real. Prosser has not shared an exact timeline for the launch of the device, however, he has claimed that the foldable phone will be launched towards the end of this year or early next year.
Google foldable phone could be coming soonInterestingly, this is not the first time we are hearing about a foldable phone from Google. Earlier this week reports had emerged claiming that Samsung will produce OLED displays for foldable phones from Google, Xiaomi, and OPPO. As for the Google foldable phone, it could be codenamed ‘Passport.'
Reports suggest Google has been working on this foldable Pixel device since 2019. Earlier, a patent had also emerged showing the foldable smartphone prototype design featuring a display that would fold inwards. This Google Pixel phone with a folding screen is tipped to get a 7.6-inch screen size, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. Since the Google Pixel line-up is expected to feature mid-range hardware, this foldable phone may also adopt a similar strategy. Or it's entirely possible that Google equips this device with a flagship chipset.
While information about this foldable phone is scarce, we expect the display to have a high refresh rate like the Galaxy Z Fold 2. For now, we can only wait for more details to emerge about the phone, which considering how things are going, shouldn't take much time.
