OnePlus renames Fnatic Mode to Pro Gaming Mode as its partnership comes to an end

The OnePlus 7 series which debuted back in 2019 shipped with a gaming mode called Fnatic Mode. The same mode was then rolled out to older OnePlus devices like the OnePlus 5/5T later via a software update. The gaming mode and the strategic partnership with Fnatic since then have been a marquee feature of OnePlus phones.

Sadly, OnePlus' partnership with Fnatic has come to an end and with that, the company has decided to rename the Fnatic mode to "Pro Gaming Mode". We'll start seeing the new "Pro Gaming Mode" on the OnePlus devices soon as the company rolls out software updates.

Fnatic Mode renamed to

It has already rolled out the change for the OnePlus 7 series as a part of OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 3 based on Android 11. OnePlus didn't include this change on the changelog, but it was pointed by a Reddit user u/T1Az here. The gaming mode has been renamed to "Pro Gaming Mode" in the latest Open Beta release.

The folks over at XDA Developers dug into the release to confirm the change. They even reached out to OnePlus for comment and received this statement -

“OnePlus’ partnership with Fnatic has come to its natural and mutual conclusion. Users of OnePlus devices who have enjoyed our Fnatic mode will continue to receive the same features and capabilities but under a new Pro Gaming Mode name. The naming update will transition across devices starting from the 6 series. Fnatic has been a supportive partner to OnePlus, and we look forward to the opportunity to collaborate again in the future.”

As OnePlus has pointed out in its statement, users can expect the mode to remain unchanged except for the name. All of its features are expected to remain intact, but it goes without saying that it will no longer have the Fnatic Easter egg or the Fnatic-themed wallpapers.

Nokia G10 could be the companys gaming-focused phones

According to a report by NokiaPowerUser, Nokia could be planning to launch a G-Series smartphone. According to the source, this could be the Nokia G10 which previously leaked with the model number TA-1334. It is speculated that the G-Series will stand for gaming, but this is not confirmed.

Specifications of the smartphone are not known apart from the fact that it will feature a 6.4-inch display and a quad-camera setup at the back with the primary camera sporting a 48MP sensor. The smartphone is speculated to share features with the Nokia 5.4.

The smartphone has been certified in Thailand as well as by TUV Rheinland, so it is possible we could see some official announcement of the phone soon.

Nokia phones to have a new naming convention later this year

In other Nokia news, it looks like the brand is possibly reconsidering its naming convention for the devices. The information comes from Twitter user @baidunokibar who says that Nokia may remove the dot from its smartphone naming convention. Nokia has distinguished its new series from the previous year’s models by increasing the number after the “dot”. So the Nokia 5.4 for example is the successor to the Nokia 5.3. While this is a straightforward naming convention, it can get confusing for some.

In other Nokia news, the company recently launched the Nokia 3.4, 5.4 and Power Earbuds Lite in India priced at Rs 11,999, Rs 13,999 and Rs 3,599. The Nokia 3.4 made its debut globally back in September 2020 and was followed by the launch of Nokia 5.4 in December. You can learn more about the smartphones here.

The Nokia 5.4 competes directly with the Poco M3. If you are confused as to which is the right one for you, then you can check out our comparison here.

Redmi Note 10 first impressions: Worthy of a closer look

Redmi is launching a duo of smartphones, the Redmi Note 10 being one of them. The phone brings a number of lucrative features to the segment, including a Super AMOLED display, a 48MP camera a massive battery and an arguably elegant design. We’ve been putting the phone through our test process and while there is still much work to be done, we can at least share with you our initial thoughts on the smartphone.

Redmi Note 10 Specifications

First, we must get the essentials out of the way. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 SoC, a very minor refresh of the two-year-old Snapdragon 675. Qualcomm’s chipset portfolio has ballooned significantly in the last two years, and they’re all over the place with their naming scheme. To give you some perspective in terms of where this chipset sits in the larger scheme of things, it is a top-tier 6-series chipset, but ranks below the 7-series such as the SD710 and the SD720 even. The SoC is manufactured using the aged 11nm process and features 2 Kryo Gold cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 6 Kryo Silver cores at 1.7GHz. Our test unit also comes with 6GB LPDDR4 memory, along with 128GB of on-board storage (UFS2.2). For those of you who are particular about their displays, you get an FHD+ Super AMOLED display. There’s no high refresh rate here, but Xiaomi says the display does sport a 180Hz touch polling rate. You also get 4 cameras on the back, of which two are the more practical ones. This is the 48-megapixel primary camera, an 8 Megapixel ultra-wide camera along with a 2-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The Redmi Note 10 also features a massive 5000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. There's also a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that's been embedded into the power button.

Redmi Note 10 Look and Feel

The real stunning feature of the phone happens to be its design. Our white coloured unit definitely is a stunning looking thing. The back isn’t made of glass, but the smooth, matte finish paired with the white colour of our device does lend to the illusion that it is made from a material more premium than plastic. This particular colour also appears to be rather fingerprint-resistant. While the back is all matte, the fame is shiny silver, which we’re not too fond of, but its something you can live with. Interestingly, the camera module on the Redmi Note 10 very closely resembles that of the Mi 10T Pro, furthering the illusion of the Redmi Note 10 being a more premium device than it really is. The phone is going to come in three colours; white, black and a shade of green. We are definitely partial to the white one for its simplicity and elegance.

The Redmi Note 10 features a 48MP quad-camera setup, one that visually resembles the Mi 10 Ultra's design to a large extent.

Redmi Note 10 Standout Features

While the design is definitely a head-turner, the 48MP primary and 8MP ultra-wide camera. The camera app offers a 2x zoom as well, probably rendered from a section of the 48MP image. We’re not going to comment on the quality of the images, but here are a few samples for you to check out. Do note that these are all resized for web, but the original images will be uploaded as part of our final review coming out in the next few days.

Besides the camera, the Super AMOLED display is also quite something. Sure the high refresh rate will be missed, but the fast polling rate of 180Hz should come in handy not only in day-to-day usage, but also while gaming. This panel could just as well go toe to toe with the one on the recently reviewed Samsung Galaxy F62, but we're going to wait for our testing to conclude on the matter.

The Redmi Note 10 features an FHD Super AMOLED display

Lastly, there’s the 5000mAh battery with its 33W fast charging that we’re looking forward to testing out. Typically, this price range tends to have such large batteries, but we’re excited to test if there have been any optimisations made to stretch the 5000mAh a few extra miles.

Redmi Note 10 First Impressions

Xiaomi has made quite a name for itself in offering high-end features at lower price points. With the Redmi Note 10, we’re getting what appears to be a really nice Super AMOLED display, along with a camera stack that is known to be reliable and versatile. We’re just not too convinced on Xiaomi’s choice of chipset, but we’re going to be thoroughly testing it out to see just how well it can deliver on the promise of reliable usage.

Call of Duty: Mobile confirm new Napalm scorestreak in Season 2 update

Call of Duty: Mobile has revealed even more information about the upcoming Season 2 update. First off, Activision has confirmed that the new Season will be called ‘Day of Reckoning’. Aside from the name, the developers have also confirmed the addition of a new scorestreak. This is called Napalm.

Call of Duty: Mobile - Napalm details

Call for air support! Deploy the new Scorestreak, Napalm to clear enemies in your path! Coming to #CODMobile next week as a part of the Season 2 Battle Pass! pic.twitter.com/UiemxRGc4u

— Call of Duty: Mobile (@PlayCODMobile) March 6, 2021

The Napalm scorestreak will allow players to call in a plane, which will rain down fire from the sky. When activating the scorestreak, players will have to choose the flight patch of the aircraft. The plane will then fly across the map, while dropping napalm bombs along the way. The fire from the napalm will also create smoke. This will obscure vision. The developers have not yet revealed the points players will have to accumulate in order to call in the scorestreak. Presumably, players will be able to shoot down the plane as it makes its way over the map.

The new Napalm scorestreak will most likely be unlocked when players reach a certain Tier in the Season 2 free Battle Pass. If not, it should be available via a Seasonal or Feature Challenge.

Call of Duty: Mobile Season 2

Besides a new scorestream, players will also be able to earn two new weapons. This includes the AS VAL assault rifle and the SPR 208 sniper rifle. One of these weapons should be available from the start via the free Battle Pass. The other should be available later via a Seasonal Challenge.

Two maps have also been confirmed in the Season 2 update. This includes the Shoot House map from 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The other is a new version of Shipment. This will bring the Shipment 1944 map with a more modern aesthetic. The new Season 2 update should be available sooner, rather than later.
