OnePlus Watch teased ahead of OnePlus 9 series launch on March 23 in India

OnePlus has dropped the first teaser for its first smartwatch that could simply be called the OnePlus Watch. The OnePlus 9 series is set to launch on March 23 in India and as previously rumoured, the OnePlus Watch may tag along as well. OnePlus officially confirmed during the launch of the OnePlus 8T last year that it was working on its first smartwatch followed by rumours that it will launch in 2021 alongside the OnePlus 9 series.

You asked for it. You're getting it.

— OnePlus India (@OnePlus_IN) March 12, 2021

The official Twitter handle of OnePlus posted a tweet hinting at the launch of the company’s first smartwatch. Over on the OnePlus Forums, fans have been asked to “Watch this space for something new” in a post that teases the design of the upcoming smartwatch.

OnePlus has dropped the first teaser for its first smartwatch that could simply be called the OnePlus Watch

“We’re excited to bring you an exclusive Community announcement... it’s time for something new. This fresh addition to the OnePlus family is healthy, punctual and even takes care of you while you sleep,” reads the post on the forum. This all but confirms the launch of the OnePlus Watch in the coming weeks and what better an opportunity to expand into a new category while announcing the latest crop of its flagship smartphones.

OnePlus Watch has been rumoured for quite some time now and recently it got certified by the BIS in India. Moreover, the schematic design of the OnePlus Watch has also previously leaked giving us a glimpse of how the smart wearable may look like.

Having said that, the most credible piece of information comes from CEO Pete Lau himself who has earlier given us a tease of the first smartwatch they are making. OnePlus first started working on a smartwatch back in 2015 but soon abandoned its plans in order to focus on its existing offers. However, Pete has revealed that they are working with Google to improve WearOS connectivity and features in an attempt to improve the value of a smartwatch.

“For your smartwatch, in terms of notifications being able to seamlessly appear on the TV or using your smartwatch to also control the smart display or your smartwatch detecting that you've fallen asleep and then also eventually putting your smart display to sleep,” Lau told InputMag in an interview last year.

OnePlus Watch has been tipped to feature a circular dial design as hinted by the sketch in the teaser. It is also expected to offer features like SpO2 monitor, heart rate sensor, health companion, sleep tracking, exercise modes and more that debuted with the OnePlus Band (review), earlier this year.

Xiaomi Redmi smart TV features teased ahead of launch on March 17

Xiaomi will launch the first Redmi smart TV on March 17 in India. Ahead of its official unveil, Xiaomi has started teasing some key features of the upcoming Redmi TV that the company says offers the “XL Experience”. Moreover, since this will be the first television under the Redmi brand, Xiaomi has also revealed the new Redmi remote.

Manu Kumar Jain, MD at Xiaomi India took to Twitter and revealed that the upcoming Redmi smart TV has Dolby Vision support and is HDR10+ ready. Additionally, the TV has a dedicated picture engine that will optimize the overall visual experience of watching your favourite movies or TV shows.

Xiaomi’s Redmi India Twitter handle has also posted a picture of the new Redmi remote that will be bundled along with the new Redmi smart TV. The remote is similar to the ones Xiaomi provides with its Mi range of smart TVs. There’s a dedicated button each for Netflix and Prime Video confirming their presence and the TV is expected to run PatchWall UI out-of-the-box.

Xiaomi is yet to reveal the exact specifications of the upcoming Redmi TV so we don’t know how large the display is going to be. However, given the presence of Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, it is likely to be a 4K TV. Xiaomi could also launch a 65-inch smart TV in India since the Mi TV 4X 65-inches is no longer listed on the Xiaomi website. The Mi TV 4X was launched back in 2019 so it's already due for an upgrade.

Xiaomi Redmi smart TV expected features

Xiaomi Redmi ‘XL Experience’ smart TV has also been listed on Amazon, indicating that it will be available to purchase from Amazon India after its launch. While the listing does not reveal the features of the upcoming products, the company could launch new TVs under the Redmi X or Redmi Max series as it does in China.

Then again, there is a possibility that we may get an entirely new product range under the Redmi brand, and we expect Xiaomi to reveal key details in the heads-up to the launch on March 17. Xiaomi has confirmed that it will launch the Redmi Smart TV on March 17 at 12:00 PM in India.

PUBG Mobile India unban status still a mystery as no conversation happened during recent Krafton investment

PUBG Mobile developer Krafton Games pumped Rs 144Cr into the Indian esports entity called Nodwin Gaming. This news sparked a lot of conversation around PUBG Mobile and how the investment could pave the way for the game's comeback in India.

Well, if you were expecting that to happen, then you might want to check out what the folks over at IGN India have to say. At an IPO press conference, Nodwin parent company Nazara shed some light on the matter and confirmed that there was no discussion around PUBG Mobile.

Krafton's investment in Nodwin has nothing to do with PUBG Mobile.

When asked about the impact of Nodwin's partnership with Krafton on Nazara’s esports projections particularly in the light of the ongoing PUBG Mobile ban in India, the company's Managing Director and Founder Nitish Mittersain confirmed to IGN India that there was no conversation around the game and what it means for the country.

PUBG Mobile India not coming back anytime soon

“We believe that the esports market in India is going to grow very large and we’re right at the infancy of that market,” said Mittersain. “We’re starting to see green-shoots of how that market can be. Krafton is a gaming giant from South Korea and South Korea is the birthplace of such businesses like esports and they have immense experience and scale on how such businesses have evolved in South Korea and how it can evolve in India.”

He noted that PUBG Mobile's fate in India is not Nazara and Nodwin. According to Mittersain, Nodwin's partnership with Krafton has nothing to do with the game. “It’s a far deeper, far more strategic partnership with a long term perspective in mind. Just to clarify, there has been no conversation at all during this entire period of discussing and signing this deal in terms of what this deal means for PUBG in India and what it does not," he said.

It appears to be a strategic partnership than anything else and it looks like Krafton will have to continue negotiating terms with the government to bring the game back.
