Samsung will not launch any Galaxy Note series phones this year, confirms company CEO

Samsung's usual set of smartphone launches include two main flagship series - the Galaxy S series and the Note series. But now that the company has also started pushing its foldable, there were rumors and speculation about the company putting an end to its Note lineup. And now, the company has indeed confirmed that they will not be launching the Galaxy Note series phones this year.

Samsung Note series to go on hiatus for the rest of 2021

This piece of info was shared by Samsung Electronics CEO Dong-jin Koh at the 52nd regular shareholders meeting in South Korea. Even though we've been hearing about not seeing a Note flagship this year, this news is a bit of a surprise. Samsung has been launching a new Galaxy Note flagship every year since they announced the original Galaxy Note 1 back in 2011. So the fact that we won't be seeing an upgrade to the series this year is indeed a little disappointing.

Samsung has not killed the Note line up though.

That being said, this is not the end of the Galaxy Note line-up though. The company CEO also confirmed that the company is not ditching the series entirely as the rumours suggested. He said they will be back with a new phone in the series next year. We hope it will be a significant upgrade over the existing Note phones we have on the market.

Despite the absence of a new Galaxy Note flagship this year, we still have the Galaxy S21 Ultra that now supports the S Pen. It's the first Galaxy S series to arrive with S Pen stylus support. We're assuming the lack of any significant upgrade is keeping them from bringing a new Note flagship this year. The Galaxy S21 Ultra is an excellent phone as it is.

Additionally, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 is also expected to support the S Pen. In fact, even some mid-range Samsung phones are said to arrive with the S Pen support. Between all this, we won't be surprised if the company takes its sweet time to rethink the Note flagship and offer some exclusive features for the device to make it stand out from its other devices.

OnePlus Watch leaked specifications and features

OnePlus Watch has been leaked ahead of its launch alongside the OnePlus 9 series on March 23 in India

According to details shared by popular tipster Ishan Agarwal with PriceBaba, the OnePlus Watch will launch with a 46mm dial, in Black and Silver colours and is IP68 rated making it resistant to dust and water ingress. The smartwatch also supports Warp Charge that Ishan claims can last for a week by charging it for just 20 minutes.

Additionally, the OnePlus Watch also features sleep tracking, SpO2 blood-oxygen monitor and a real-time heart rate sensor. It has 4GB of storage and displays notifications and calls from the phone. The Watch can also be used to control the OnePlus TV, music playback and has tons of workout modes such as swimming that it detects automatically.

The OnePlus Watch is said to be powered by WearOS as revealed by CEO Pete Lau previously, however, Ishan claims that the OnePlus Watch does not seem to run on WearOS. The smartwatch likely runs a custom WearOS which is more in line with OxygenOS. Pete has also revealed that they are working closely with Google to improve the WearOS for their first smartwatch.

“For your smartwatch, in terms of notifications being able to seamlessly appear on the TV or using your smartwatch to also control the smart display or your smartwatch detecting that you've fallen asleep and then also eventually putting your smart display to sleep,” Lau told InputMag in an interview last year. OnePlus 9 series launches on March 23 alongside the OnePlus Watch.

Intel has revealed the Rocket Lake 11th Gen Core i9, Core i7, and Core i5 processors

Intel's last-generation comet lake processors faced fierce competition from AMD's Zen-3-powered Ryzen 5000 chips. Now, Intel is finally firing back with its new 11th Gen Rocket Lake chips. The company has finally revealed the official specs and pricing of the Rocket Lake processors. Here's everything you need to know about these new processors.

Intel has decided to launch a new architecture on its older less 14nm mode, and there are fewer cores this time. Intel's Rocket Lake's flagship chip i.e. the Intel Core i9-11900K brings eight cores to the table while the previous-gen Core i9 family came with 10 cores. AMD's chips, in comparison, can stretch up to 16 cores in comparison.

Intel Rocket Lake: Core i9, Core i7, Core i5 processors

The new 11th Gen Core desktop processor family this time starts with the Core i5. It has 6 cores and 12 threads whereas both the Core i7 and the Core i9 boasts 8 cores and 16 threads. All the SKUs will natively support DDR4-3200 natively and offer 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes in supported motherboards. These lanes will support graphics and storage direct from the processor.

The new Intel processors have fewer cores than the previous-gen processors.

It is worth pointing out that both Core i9 and Core i7 this time around have the same count. The difference is rather subtle this time around which is in terms of higher frequencies and thermal velocity boost of the Core i9.

The Intel Core i9-11900K has a base frequency of 3.5Ghz, and it peaks at 5.3Ghz in Thermal Velocity Boost mode. Thermal Velocity Boost mode, in case you don't know, will basically add an additional +100 MHz frequency during turbo if the processor is under a certain temperature. Other SKUs of the Core i9 family include Core i9-11900KF, Core i9-11900, Core i9-11900F, and the Core i9-11900T.

The Core i7 line-up includes the Core i7-11700K which offers 8 cores and 16 threads, with a single-core turbo of 5.0Ghz on favoured cores, 4.9 GHz otherwise, and 4.6 GHz all-core turbo. The Core i7 family supports DDR4-3200 memory. The Core i5 family spreads out with a bunch of SKUs. They all have 6 cores and 12 threads, and they all have the traditional Intel Turbo 2.0, and all support DDR4-3200 or DDR4-2933.

Intel Rocket Lake processors: Pricing

Intel's 11th Gen Core i9 processors start at $439 (Rs 24,000 approx) and go all the way up to $539 (Rs 29,000 approx) for the Core i9-11900K. The Intel Core i7-11700K is priced at $399 (Rs 31,500 approx), which makes it $140 cheaper than the Core i9-11900K. The Core i5-11600K will set you back $262 (Rs 14,000 approx) but the base i5-11400T variant starting at $182 (Rs 9,800 approx).

OnePlus 9 Pro is confirmed to feature a 6.7-inch QHD+ (3216x1440 pixels) resolution OLED display that also supports upto 120Hz refresh rate. OnePlus is all set to launch the OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro and the much-awaited OnePlus Watch on March 23 in India. The company has been teasing some key features of the OnePlus 9 series and has also announced its partnership with Swedish camera-maker Hasselblad for improving the imaging capabilities on OnePlus phones going forward.

OnePlus 9 Pro is confirmed to feature a 6.7-inch QHD+ (3216x1440 pixels) resolution OLED display that also supports upto 120Hz refresh rate

In a DisplayMate report shared exclusively with PCMag, we get to know a lot more about the display of the OnePlus 9 Pro. The OnePlus 9 Pro flaunts a curved screen that has been sourced from Samsung and has been tuned by OnePlus for better colour accuracy and visuals. Meanwhile, over at the OnePlus Forums, the company has officially revealed that the display on the 9 Pro has received an A+ rating from DisplayMate and that it supports 10-bit colour depth with 1 Billion colours, HDR10+ certification and Automatic Color Temperature Adjustment.

— Pete Lau (@PeteLau) March 16, 2021

"The 9 Pro has a very impressive, excellent, top-tier, world-class smartphone display with close to textbook-perfect calibration accuracy and performance, that is visually indistinguishable from perfect," says DisplayMate President, Dr Raymond Soneira describing the display on the OnePlus 9 Pro.

We led the industry in introducing high refresh rate displays, and now we’re leading in … low refresh rates. The #OnePlus9Series LTPO display can switch anywhere from 1-120 Hz, just when you need it. Fast, smooth, and lighter on your battery. pic.twitter.com/erOGmeSYzP

— Pete Lau (@PeteLau) March 16, 2021

OnePlus 9 Pro’s display has greater sunlight legibility and has a special high-brightness mode that activates when there is a lot of ambient light. Furthermore, the OLED display on the OnePlus 9 Pro also features the next generation of display technology called LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) which succeeds the LTPS technology. With LTPO, the display on the 9 Pro gives more control over refresh rates and saves a lot of power.

While the screen supports upto a 120Hz refresh rate, it can go down to as low as 1Hz in order to consume less battery. “When you're scrolling, the screen moves at 120Hz. Stop, let it sit, and it drops to 1Hz. Watch a video at 30fps, and it runs at 30Hz. This all operates in service of battery life,” the report states. The display is also confirmed to feature a 360Hz touch sampling rate which is more than the Galaxy S21 and the ROG Phone 5. However, there are only some games that will take leverage of a high touch sampling rate and those will be revealed on the launch day.

OnePlus 9 series launches in India on March 23 and here is everything we know about it so far.
