Upcoming OnePlus Watch ditches WearOS in favour of a custom OS based on RTOS, CEO Pete Lau confirms

Instead of holding on to some sweet surprises for the launch event like Apple's "One More Thing!", OnePlus has a way of posting elaborate teasers for its upcoming devices leading up to their official unveiling. The company has already showcased a lot about the OnePlus 9 Pro in the name of teasers. We know what it looks like, the kind of camera module it packs, and a lot more.

Now, the company has also decided to tease the OnePlus Watch that's set to debut alongside the new phones. In fact, the company CEO Pete Lau has already given away a crucial piece of info about the watch. In a response to a question from an OnePlus forum member about the Watch's OS, Pete confirmed that it will not be running Google's WearOS.

Expertly crafted and meticulously designed, the #OnePlusWatch is the perfect companion to elevate your digital life. Rack up steps, monitor your heart-rate, and much more, with our debut timepiece.

— OnePlus 3 (@oneplus) March 17, 2021

He confirmed that they chose to go with a smart wear operating system that's developed based on RTOS. "We chose to go with a smart wear operating system developed based on RTOS because we believe it provides you a smooth and reliable experience while offering a great battery life, covering some of the biggest concerns we’ve been hearing from people looking to buy a smartwatch," he said.

This confirms the fact that the upcoming OnePlus Watch will be running an OS that would be more or less similar to the ones running on devices from the companies like Amazfit. The downside to using such an OS is the limited third-party app support. But on the flip side, they tend to have great battery life and faster performance, two things which the WearOS is not popularly known for.

The fact that the OnePlus Watch is not running WearOS may come as a surprise for a few people, but this is something we expected a lot of OEMs to do, especially since WearOS is still rather unstable when it comes to performance and battery life. For now, though, we will just have to watch for OnePlus to showcase what they've been cooking for us behind the scenes. In the meantime, check out these key features that the watch is expected to carry. It's coming from a reliable source, so it does carry some weight.

Poco X3 Pro likely to get Corning Gorilla Glass 6

It's no secret that Poco is launching the X3 Pro on March 30 in India. While the company hasn't confirmed the phone yet, there are enough reports online that point towards this eventuality.

The Poco X3 Pro is expected to be a flagship killer, and as such, it may come with some interesting specifications and features. One of these is going to be the presence of Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on it, with the company teasing the same through its Twitter handle. With the new teaser, it is now confirmed the upcoming Poco X3 Pro's display will be covered by the Gorilla Glass 6 with improved scratch resistance and durability.

Poco X3 Pro rumoured specifications

For now, we know little about the Poco X3 Pro's specs. Reports claim the Poco X3 Pro could feature a Full HD+ display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. The device is tipped to come running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 processor. Further, the Poco X3 Pro is expected to be equipped with a 5,200mAh battery that will support fast-charging out-of-the-box.

The pricing details for the global variant have also leaked, giving us a hint about the price of the phone in India. The information comes courtesy of a listing by a European retailer which claims the phone will start at €269 for the base variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There will also be another variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. This version will be sold for €319.

Poco X3 Pro will get Corning Gorilla Glass 6

The phone is due to be offered in Metal Bronze, Frost Blue, and Phantom Black, apparently. For India, this should mean the Poco X3 Pro could retail in the country for around Rs 25,000. Although, Poco could surprise us all and launch the phone at a more aggressive price point. But this is something we'll have to wait to find out.

Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti spotted on benchmark database

Rumours have been making the rounds that Nvidia will announce a GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card. Now, a new leak has surfaced which adds more weight to the potential arrival of the unannounced GPU.

The leak has come in the form of a benchmark taken on a Samsung 760XDA laptop running Intel's Tiger Lake H processors. The Geekbench benchmark was discovered by a known leaker on Twitter, named TUM_APISAK. The user has shared a screenshot and a link that takes you to the benchmarking database revealing some of the specifications of the alleged Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti.

RTX 3050 Ti Laptop OpenCL Score - 60559https://t.co/djQR6mBcRC pic.twitter.com/sbERp4W10Z

— APISAK (@TUM_APISAK) March 17, 2021 Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti leaked specifications

The specifications on the leaked benchmark are in line with the previous rumours which suggested that the RTX 3050 Ti will have 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM (Video Random Access Memory). The latest leak also shows that the graphics card will have 2560 CUDA cores. Lastly, the OpenCL score of the leaked GPU is 60559.

The highlight of the leak is that it is listed as an RTX variant, which will bring ray tracing that was kept exclusive to the 60-series GPUs. As of now, the baseline to get your hands on a graphics card with ray tracing is the RTX 2060. This means we might soon get ray tracing on affordable graphics cards as well.

As we mentioned, these are not the first rumours around the RTX 3050 Ti. The GPU was leaked previously on Asus' website and not just this, there have been leaks floating around the RTX 3050 as well. But this particular leak has a laptop in the picture, so it's too early to anticipate what will its PC counterpart offer, if there's one in the pipeline,

If the leaks are on point, the RTX 3050 Ti will be the fourth addition to Nvidia's 3000 series of GPU. As of now, the line-up has RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 laptop GPUs. Bringing ray tracing to the budget segment is something enthusiasts have been wishing for, but we'll have to wait until Nvidia shares official details about it.
