PUBG Lite is shutting down this month and its no longer available to download

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds a.k.a PUBG was launched across a lot of platforms. To make it more accessible, a couple of toned-down versions of the game were released for both PC and mobile phones. By the end of this month, one of those entries will no longer be available. Yes, PUBG Lite, a version of the game made for lower-end PCs and laptops will be shutting down this month.

The same has been confirmed by the game's publisher Krafton on its official website. In its note, Krafton games, without giving any impending reasons, said the game will no longer be available to download starting March 30 and the service of PUBG Lit is scheduled to end on April 29, 2021.

Existing users can continue playing the game till April 29.

Here's what Krafton said - "We are deeply grateful for the passion and support from the astounding number of PUBG LITE fans that have been with us. During the strenuous times of the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that PUBG LITE was able to provide our fans a fun way to stay safe. Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close service after much deliberation and the time has come for our journey to end. We regretfully inform you that the service of PUBG LITE is scheduled to end on April 29th, 2021 (UTC)."

It's rather surprising because PUBG Lite started off well and it was widely popular. The game's publisher even made it completely free-to-play by ditching the in-game currency back in November last year. But it looks like there weren't too many takers for this game after all.

PUBG Lite, for those of you who don't know, was launched in beta in January 2019 in Thailand. It was well-received in the community and Krafton was praised for its efforts to make the game more accessible. PUBG Lite worked flawlessly even on relatively low-end PCs, allowing more people to hop in and get that "Chicken Dinner!"

According to Krafton, the game is no longer available to download for new users. Existing players can continue playing it till April 29th, 2021 05:00 (UTC). The player support for PUBG Lite will officially end on May 29th, 2021 (UTC). It's worth pointing out that PUBG Mobile Lite is a different game and this doesn't affect the mobile version of the game.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra confirmed for April 23 India launch

Xiaomi has announced the launch date of its upcoming flagship for India, the Mi 11 Ultra. The phone was recently launched in global markets and now the company will bring it to India on April 23.

The company has confirmed the launch date of the phone through a media invite; however, it hasn't revealed anything about the launch of the Mi 11 Lite or the Mi 11i -- two phones which also launched alongside the Mi 11 Ultra at the global event a few days ago.

Mi 11 Ultra: Expected specifications

While Xiaomi hasn't revealed any information about the hardware of the upcoming Indian variant of the Mi 11 Ultra, we expect it to flaunt similar specs to the global variant of the device. As such, the Mi 11 Ultra could sport triple cameras on the back alongside a mini rear display.

On the front, the Mi 11 Ultra will likely feature a 6.81-inch AMOLED display that offers QHD+ (3200x1440 pixels) resolution and has a punch-hole notch cutout for the selfie camera. The display may support up to a 120Hz refresh rate and offer HDR10+ playback with Dolby Vision.

Under the hood, we are likely to see the same specs as on the global variant. This would include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 60 GPU, paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The cameras may also be the same, with a triple camera set-up on the back headlined by a 50MP primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture and OIS support, a 48MP periscope camera offering up to 5x optical zoom and a 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 128-degree field-of-view.

On the front, the phone is likely to get a 20MP selfie camera housed within the notch cutout. Further, the phone is expected to get stereo speakers optimized by Harman Kardon and also be equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 67W fast wired and wireless charging.

LG UltraGear 17 laptop launched with Intels 11th Gen Tiger Lake processor

LG doesn't have a huge presence in the laptop space, at least outside Korea. Except for the perennial favourites from their Gram lineup, nothing really stands out in comparison to the competition. But they have launched a new machine with which the company is looking to boost its laptop sales along with its LG Gram notebook products.

We are talking about the LG UltraGear 17 laptop which LG just launched in Korea. It's a 17-inch notebook that comes with an exorbitant price tag.

LG UltraGear 17

LG UltraGear 17 Specifications

The LG UltraGear 17 laptop sports a 17-inch Wide Quad Extended Graphics Array display with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels. It looks like the display has slim bezels around it for an immersive experience, and we can also see a webcam on top of the panel.

Intel's 11th generation Tiger Lake processor is at the heart of this laptop to take care of the performance alongside an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650Ti for graphics. Other detailed specs of the laptop are still a mystery but we think it will most likely have at least 16GB RAM alongside some sort of a fast PCIe SSD storage solution.

Unlike their Gram series, this particular notebook isn't exactly lightweight. It weighs 1.95 Kgs and packs a generous 80Whr battery to power the internals and that 2K display.

LG UltraGear Pricing & Availability

LG has launched the new UltraGear 17 for 2.24 million Won which roughly translates to about Rs 1.5 Lakh. It appears to be the starting price of the laptop with other variants with better specs costing even more. LG hasn't shared the availability info and it remains to be seen if it will ever launch outside Korea.

Govt to give a billion dollars each to chip-makers for manufacturing processors under Make in India program: Report

The Indian government is reportedly offering more than a billion dollars each to semiconductor companies in a bid to encourage them to set shop in India. As per a report by Reuters, the Narendra Modi-led central government is giving this major cash incentive to chip makers in order to improve the country's smartphone assembly industry and also strengthen its electronics supply chain.

While India has already emerged as the world's second-biggest mobile phone market, the government now appears to be using cash incentives as a means to further enhance the country's position as a hub for manufacturing phones and other gadgets.

Citing unnamed government officials, the report goes on to add, "The government will give cash incentives of more than $1 billion to each company which will set up chip fabrication units... We’re assuring them that the government will be a buyer and there will also be mandates in the private market (for companies to buy locally made chips).”

It goes on to add that there's been no decision on how to disburse cash incentives to participating companies. However, the government has asked the industry for feedback to quickly find a solution.

Ensuring a reliable supply of chips for the country

The government's move to encourage the setting up chip fabrication units in the country appears to be in-line with what we've seen from other countries across the globe in the recent past. The idea here appears to be to reduce dependence on countries like China and ensure a reliable supply of semiconductors for the needs of the country -- across various markets like electronics, smartphones and even electric vehicles in the future.

With the telecom industry swiftly moving towards newer generation technologies, this move by the government to encourage the manufacturing of chips within the country will also enable it to create trusted sources for the manufacturing of equipment such as CCTV cameras and even 5G equipment. Further, the manufacturing of processors will also help bring down the price of certain products such as smartphones and gadgets.

Helping with the global chip shortage

Interestingly, this also comes at a time when the global market is suffering from an acute shortage of semiconductors -- a problem that is only expected to grow worse going forward. And with semiconductors being used to create chips that are now used in pretty much everything -- from phones to consoles, cars, and even secure military-grade equipment -- markets across the globe are reaching a stage where they will have to curtail production owing to the shortages in the supply of semiconductors.

If the government manages to convince chip makers to set up manufacturing units in the country, it will also help establish India as a major exporter of semiconductors, thereby not only helping the world with its chip shortage but also helping the government create new jobs and work towards achieving its goals under the Make In India initiative.

OnePlus Watch could support always-on display in the future via an OTA update

OnePlus launched its first wearable device, the OnePlus Watch alongside the OnePlus 9 series smartphones. The watch is the company’s first foray into the wearable segment. At launch, the OnePlus Watch does not support an always-on display. During a deep dive Q&A on the OnePlus forum, OnePlus addressed the lack of an always-on display on the watch.

Does the OnePlus Watch support an always-on display?

On the forum, OnePlus says, “We’ve heard many users request the always-on display. We are currently looking at things like how it impacts power consumption and are evaluating the possibility to bring this feature in a future OTA. I’m also interested to know your thoughts about how important AOD is to you, considering that it could increase power consumption by almost 50%. Let us know in the thread below”.

So, it looks like the OnePlus Watch can support an always-on but at the cost of reducing the battery life by about 50%. Considering the watch has a claimed battery life of 2 weeks, this could reduce its life to 1 week with the display always-on.

The forum also addresses the battery life of the device is the GPS is always on. The forum reads, “It supports 25 hours of battery life when continuously using GPS”.

Those looking forward to the OnePlus watch should know that the OnePlus Watch is priced at Rs 14,999 in India and will go on sale sometime in April across offline and online stores.

The OnePlus Watch features a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a 454x454 pixels resolution and 326 PPI. The OnePlus Watch is also IP68 rated making it resistant to dust and water.

The OnePlus smartwatch connects to your Android smartphone via the OnePlus Health app. It lets users receive notifications directly on the smartwatch, manage calls and messages, music playback, remote camera control and more. The smartwatch also connects with the OnePlus TV (review) and can be controlled from the OnePlus Watch. The OnePlus Watch has a slew of sensors including a SpO2 blood-oxygen monitor, heart rate sensor and more.
