Among Us goes from 350k daily PC players to two million after Epic giveaway

After Among Us was released for free during the Epic Games store sale for a limited time, there has been a huge surge in PC players over the weekend. The game has seen a surge of around 2 million players.

Victoria Tran, Innersloth's community director shared the results on her Twitter page with a graph that showed a spike in players over the weekend starting May 27, 2021.

Among Us

The player count for a normal weekend for PC players usually ranges from around 300k to 350k players. The free giveaway saw the number rise up significantly. Tran shared a chart that shows the player count climbing to around 2 million players.

The game is also available on Xbox for PC and on mobile devices as well with a surprise release on Nintendo Switch.

A new Airship map that was recently added to the game introduced not only a new playing field but also some new tasks to complete. So there has been plenty of new content for players to sink their teeth into.

Among Us hitting 2 million players in a weekend is pretty remarkable, given how the game saw a player count of almost half a billion in 2020 alone.  Even the US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez livestreamed the game.

Its huge success during the global pandemic found the developer canceling plans to make a sequel and instead, pouring their efforts into improving the current game. Quality of life updates such as a quick-chat wheel and an updated art style, and bigger lobbies are on the way.

Different versions of the game are making its way in other games, such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Minecraft to spread the game's Imposter-filled joy.

Zombie Mode Coming To Watch Dogs Legion

Watch Dogs Legion is getting a new game mode called “Legion of the Dead ''. Ubisoft explained in it’s blog post : "In a London filled with zombies, Albion soldiers and Clan Kelley enforcers are hoarding valuable supplies that you must get your hands on to ensure the survival of your crew. "No matter if you are going solo, with friends or up to three other players via public matchmaking, you will have to be smart with your resources, your tactics and plan ahead to gather supplies, find power-ups and extract from London alive.".

Watch Dogs Legion

This new game mode will have a roguelike experience for the players in the fallen city of London. The player can either choose to go solo or co-op with a maximum of 4 friends to navigate the “dead” streets of London and survive the hordes of zombies coming at them at the same time.

The players will have to strategize and tactical plan out all of their moves in order to survive. They will be given a random gadget and a survivor at the start and they have to get till the extraction point without losing their life. The more successful extractions you do, the more Z-creds you get which you can use to buy better gadgets for your next run.

This new gamemode is still in alpha and is only available to PC users as of now. It will be available to the console users after it enters beta. Other than this, the new 4.5 update adds cross-family play (so Xbox One and Series X/S players can play together, as can PlayStation 4/PS5) as well as a 60FPS performance mode on current-gen consoles.

Biomutant Patch Lets You Mute The Narrator

A new patch for Biomutant has been released which gives the users the option to turn off the “Narrator” completely. Many users had complained about the “Narrator” speaking on completely unnecessary times, commenting everything you do and translating everything anyone says. Obviously, this can get a bit annoying at times. Previously, you only had the option to tone the “Narrator” down i.e. lower it’s volume but you could not mute the narrator completely. The amount of “gibberish” spoken before the “Narrator” starts translating has been reduced, and a new option for players to turn off “Gibberish” and “Narrator” has been patched into the settings.

biomutant

Here’s what the dev had to say in the patch notes:

Dialogue & Narrator:

Reduced the amount of gibberish spoken before the Narrator starts translating. Added dialogue setting toggles for "Gibberish" and "Narrator" allowing players to select if they want to hear the narrator, the gibberish or both when talking to NPCs. Fixed narration and gibberish playing silently and producing an awkward pause when each corresponding volume setting is set to 0 instead of skipping the sound entirely. Removed the text delay animation when either gibberish or narration is disabled.

However, other changes excluding the narrator have been made too. Some big changes include :

Motion blur option added in the settings menu Depth of field is fixed for some dialogues A new difficulty setting called “Extreme” has been added which further increases the enemy’s damage and attack. Some melee sound effects have been upgraded. End of combat “slow motion” camera has been disabled. Multiple camera presentations removed. Dialogues in general have been made shorter.

As of now, this patch is only available for PC but the developer Experiment 101 has said that it will be pushed to consoles “as soon as possible”.

Apples next iPad Pro model may have wireless charging support and a glass back

None of the iPads in Apple's current tablet lineup supports wireless charging, but it looks like that's about to change soon. According to a new Bloomberg report, the Cupertino tech giant is working on a new version of the iPad Pro that supports wireless charging. And to accommodate the tech behind that, Apple is also said to switch to a glass back for the new models.

Both of these changes are quite significant to the tablet since its first release back in 2010. This would be the first iPad model to support wireless charging and they all have had an aluminum back so far, with the glass back entering the scene for the first time.

iPad Pro 2021

Apple is also said to be working on a magnetic charging system for the new iPad Pro similar to the MagSafe connector with the iPhone 12. In addition to that, we are also hearing that the company will add reverse wireless charging to these new iPad Pro models, allowing them to act as a wireless charger themselves.

Along with this new iPad Pro model, Apple is also said to be working on a new iPad Mini model that will reportedly hit the shelves later this year. This iPad Mini model is expected to have narrow bezels due to which it will mostly ditch the home button too. Going by that, it will also be the first iPad Mini design change in many years. It could be the same iPad Mini model that we've been hearing a lot about lately.

But that's all the info we have about these new iPads, at least for now. If we were to guess, the new iPad Pro will also be powered by the rumored M1X chip. Considering the fact that Apple only recently released the new M1 iPad Pro with its Mini LED display, this new iPad Pro with wireless charging may not arrive until next year. The new iPad Mini, however, is expected to come out by the end of this year, so let's hope for the best.
