Developers have now managed to get Windows 11 up and running on the OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi Mi 8

We just recently got the announcement of Windows 11 on 24 June this year. It will be provided as a free upgrade to existing Windows 10 users sometime later this fall. Microsoft has redesigned Windows 11 with tons of new features and personalization options. Moreover, the company has optimized Windows 11 for touch-based interactions on 2-in-1 devices and more. Windows 11 also supports Android apps through its revamped app store. But, according to Windows Latest, it looks like developers have managed to get the OS working on Android phones!

OnePlus 6T running Windows 11

As Microsoft started rolling out its preview build of the OS, developers and hackers all around the world started tinkering with the software. A team of developers calling themselves Renegade actually managed to get a Windows 11 build up and running on the OnePlus 6T and the Xiaomi Mi 8. The team leader, Xilin Wu also said that “Windows 11 ARM64 can be installed on Snapdragon 845 phones, while Snapdragon 855 is partially supported by the edk2-sm8150 port.”

For now, a lot of functions on the OS isn't working as intended, which is kind of obvious since it was designed to run on PCs and not smartphones. But, you have to give these guys props for even managing such a feat. The developers created their tools and drivers when it came to loading the OS on a smartphone. Again, this is just a demonstration of what developers can do and not a valid option for smartphone users.

EA confirms that Battlefield 2042 will use at least 64 AI bots to fill up space

EA has confirmed that its upcoming Battlefield game will have at least 64 AI bots for 128 Player matches to keep the lobbies full.

Battlefield games has already been known for its big scale team battles and keeps increasing the maximum player count to 128 players. This is the first Battlefield game with this amount of players. But as it turns out, EA will be filling up at least 64 of the slots with AI bots to keep the lobbies adequate.

Battlefield 2042

Multiplayer games are prone to rage quitters and people going AKF and it is pretty rare to have a full lobby of players in any game, especially games with a bigger maximum player capacity. Battlefield 2042 will now change that by spawning AI bots to replace gamers who leave and keep those spaces filled up until more players are able to join again.

This is a system that hasn’t quite been popular yet, but some games have done something similar to this before like Titanfall 2, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and a few more.

It seems that currently there is no way to disable, which can be frustrating for some players especially if one gets sniped by one of the bots, which may seem more unfair than a real player. Then again, EA has also stated that their AI has improved significantly.

Only PC and next-gen console players will be able to play the All Out Warfare mode with 128 players, while old-gen consoles can accommodate with 64 players max.

Battlefield2042 is set to launch on October 22nd 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. More details regarding the game will be announced during the EA Play Live event on July 22nd.

Battlegrounds Mobile India now officially available on Google Play Store

Battlegrounds Mobile India is now officially available on the Google Play Store. To recall, the game was initially made available a few weeks back. However, as it was done so in early access, many games did not get a chance to play it. With the official launch of the game, all players will be able to play. You can check out the official launch trailer for the game below.

Of course, when we say “all players'', we mean only Android users, at least for now. Battlegrounds Mobile India is currently not available on iOS yet, so iPhone and iPad players will have to wait a while before they get to play the game. Krafton Inc. hasn’t confirmed when the iOS version will launch, so players may have to wait a while.

While the game is live, players should note that there are rules that they are expected to follow when playing the game. Failure to do so could lead to a ban that could last from anywhere between a few days to forever. The list of infractions includes modification of the game client, exploiting glitches, teamkilling and more. You can check out the entire list here.

We had the chance to play the game in Early Access and we can tell you that the game is pretty much the same as PUBG Mobile in terms of gameplay. However, the differences between the two are much more subtle. For example, the new game does not feature blood effects and aren’t ‘killed’. Opponents are now ‘defeated’ and disappear like a puff of green confetti. Further, the game will not only remind players that Battlegrounds Mobile India is just a game that should not be taken too seriously. It will also inform players when they have played for too long. All these changes are designed to answer initial criticisms of the game being too violent and addictive.

Microsoft signed a driver loaded with rootkit malware

Microsoft has admitted to signing a malicious driver that is being distributed within gaming environments.

Microsoft usually tests the drivers before assigning them a digital certificate which approves them to be installed by default. A driver named Netfilter that redirects traffic to an IP in China and installs a root certificate to the registry has managed to make it through that testing process without being detected as malware, specifically a rootkit.

Malware

A malware analyst at G Data, Karsten Hahn, has found the malicious driver and notified Microsoft who stated that they have promptly added malware signatures to Windows Defender and also added they are conducting an internal investigation. Microsoft has also suspended the account that submitted the driver and they are currently going over their previous submissions.

Microsoft's security response center team characterized the malware's activity as limited to the gaming sector specifically in China and then explained its goal. According to them the threat actor's purpose is to use the driver to spoof their geo-location to cheat the system and play from anywhere. The malware gives them an advantage in games and possibly exploits other players by compromising their accounts through common tools like keyloggers.

Microsoft stated that users will get clean drivers through Windows Update. Windows users are advised to follow security best practices and deploy Antivirus software such as Windows Defender.

Steam is making it even harder to use VPNs once again

Steam is the largest digital storefront for video games on the PC platform, but not without its problems. One of the problems seems to be the regional pricing. To be fair with Valve, this is usually the publisher’s decision. Either way, some gamers are using VPNs in order to get cheaper games from other countries, but Valve is hunting them down.

VPN is a private network that helps keep users anonymous and secure while browsing online or using online services. In addition to the security features, VPNs can also be used to reroute user traffic through servers in other countries, which allows users to adopt an IP address in another region. This allows users to access region-specific content, including shows on streaming services like Netflix and games on digital storefronts like Steam.

VPN

Quite recently, Valve made a change to Steam, where you could only change Steam’s country by making a verified purchase using a payment method from the same country as the one you are changing to. It is a little complicated, but it seems even that wasn’t strict enough.

Now the same rules apply, but users of Steam can only change their store’s country once every 3 months. Which seems a bit harsh considering the current global circumstances, as it already makes it difficult to travel to other countries in general, but it’s possible users were somehow still abusing it.

Valve is now making buying cheaper games on Steam with a VPN even harder, which may seem fair. With Steam’s new rules, it’ll definitely be more difficult for users to access another region’s prices.

Team Fortress 2 hit an all-time concurrent player count

Team Fortress 2, a free-to-play multiplayer game that came out in 2007, just saw its all-time concurrent player count record broken as it crossed more than 150,000 on Friday. According to SteamDB, it’s Team Fortress 2’s best day ever for a player count statistic, exceeding the previous record of 147,360 set last December.

On June 25 at around 19:50 UTC, Team Fortress 2 had 151,253 concurrent players in-game. The surge in player count could be attributed to a new update which arrived this week which was a major patch fighting the bots that plagued Team Fortress 2 lobbies. The patch added a new Summer 2021 cosmetic case and a few new tools for managing kick votes and other administrative tasks on the servers.

Team Fortress 2

Although there is some disagreement about what’s actually going on in the game as some players are reporting surprisingly bot-free experiences in the team FPS, while others are convinced that the surge is mainly due to the bot creators figuring out some new method of overcoming whatever anti-bot measures have been added in the latest update.

Another reason for the spike in players is much more likely due to a lot of recently lapsed players who have come back to check out what’s new after the recent update, which broke a record patch drought that had lasted for well over 112 days.

Cyberpunk 2077s stability has reached a satisfactory level according to CDPR

CD Projekt Red has reportedly stated that the stability of its plagued RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has now reached a "satisfactory level" in terms of stability of the game.

The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 last year was tormenting, especially for console players. Since then, CDPR have released multiple updates and patches in order to improve the stability and performance of the game, and now they feel it has reached a point to be good enough to start working on other issues.

Cyberpunk 2077

During the WSE Innovation Day conference, CEO of CD Projekt Red, Adam Kicinski, said that the game’s performance and stability has now reached a point where the developers can start focusing on other common complaints by players that aren’t directed at performance, and get the game back to the quality they initially promised.

CDPR is not done with improving the performance or fixing bugs for CP2077 on both Consoles and PCs. Despite this, Cyberpunk 2077 still has a warning to not play in the Playstation store of the  PS4 Console.

Vice President of CD Projekt Red, Piotr Nielubowicz, stated that the company’s policy is to not give out specific data until they reach certain milestones when asked how much sales has improved after Cyberpunk 2077’s return to the Playstation store.
