Battlegrounds Mobile India announces changes in Royal Pass and Rankings in new season

Battlegrounds Mobile India has announced changes to its ranking system and Royal Pass as Season 19 draws to a close. The new avatar of PUBG Mobile India was officially launched as Battlegrounds Mobile India earlier this month in India for Android users on the Google Play Store. Ahead of the upcoming season of Royal Pass, the developers have revealed some changes to the game. Here’s everything you need to know about the new ranking system, changes to Royal Pass and more.

Battlegrounds Mobile India: Ranking Season system changes

As we near the end of the Battlegrounds Mobile India Season 19, the devs have announced that from Season 20 onwards, three consecutive seasons will be grouped as 1 Cycle. The naming scheme has also undergone changes and will now be known as C1S1 (Cycle 1 Season 1), C1S2 (Cycle 1 Season 2), C1S3 (Cycle 1 Season 3), C2S1 (Cycle 2 Season 1), so on and so forth.

Battlegrounds Mobile India: Royal Pass Season changes

From Royal Pass Season 20, Battlegrounds Mobile India will run each Season monthly. Until now, the Royal Pass had a validity of two months but after the new changes come into effect, Royal Pass will have a validity of one month. This means that we will see new Royal Pass content every month starting from Season 20. The Royal Pass ranking naming scheme has also been revamped and will now be known as M1, M2 and more as opposed to S1, S2.

For users, this means that they will need to purchase Royal Pass every new season. Additionally, whenever a season ends, the Royal Pass level and RP will be reset.

Battlegrounds Mobile India: When does C1S1 begin?

The first Cycle, Season 1 and Royal Pass M1 will start on Wednesday, July 14 at 7:30 PM IST. The Ranking and Royal Pass Season 19 ends on July 14 at 5:49:59 AM.

Google Meet adds various new filters, effects and AR masks in attempt to target a younger audience

While it’s a little late to the party, Google Meet had announced that the video calling app will see the addition of new filters, AR masks and even various effects. These features will be available on both iOS and Android. The news was first tweeted out on July 7 and as such, users began seeing the various features on iOS and Android. You can access the effects and filters by tapping the sparkle icon on the bottom of the Google Meet video call. This will then give you access to a ton of filters and effects along with AR masks for that particular video call. You can check out the tweet below to see how it works.

Add cats, astronauts, jellyfish and more to your Meet calls. New filters, masks and effects are now available for Meet on Android and iOS. Try it today → https://t.co/DDSvWFxDG8 pic.twitter.com/hylhsCcUuj

— Google (@Google) July 7, 2021

The only downside to the whole thing is that you have to have a personal Gmail account to access all the features. This could be a problem for some, but creating a Gmail account is incredibly easy and fast. Just last year, Google Meet added custom backgrounds to the app. As we’ve said before, it took a bit of time for Google Meet to see that the app could be used for personal communication rather than a more corporate office demographic and have accordingly moved towards that trend.

And although this isn’t a game-changer in terms of functionality, it’s clear that Google is looking at targeting the mass market with Meet as the preferred video conferencing app. The company will face still competition though as Zoom has a rather large chunk of that industry covered.

PS5 exclusive Deathloop coming to Xbox Series consoles in September 2022

Sony recently held a State of Play where we got to see 9 minutes of new gameplay footage. At the end of the new trailer, there is “a very brief, easy-to-miss bit of text” revealing the one-year PS5 console (review) exclusivity.

Deathloop is developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks which is now owned by Microsoft. So, it looks like we will see Deathloop on the Xbox Series X (review) and S in September 2022. Deathloop isn't the only PlayStation Exclusive being developed by a studio owned by Microsoft.

GhostWire: Tokyo developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks is also a timed PlayStation Exclusive. As you can see, the publisher, Bethesda Softworks, is owned by Microsoft. There is no confirmed release date for GhostWire: Tokyo, but the game has a 2021 launch window.

Microsoft acquired Zenimax Media for a whopping $7.5 billion bringing a large number of studios including Bethesda, ID, Arkane and more under Microsoft’s umbrella. While the PS5 exclusive game deals were made before the acquisition, Microsoft has confirmed that they will fulfil all commitments made by their studios before the acquisition which includes the exclusivity of Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo on the PS5. Both games were originally set to launch on the PC alongside the PS5 release.

This 116-inch display makes the Xbox Series S a portable console, kinda

The biggest advantage of having a Nintendo Switch console is that it offers gaming on the go without carrying a home theatre with you. It looks like the same will be true for the Xbox Series S as well, kinda. This Kickstarter project by UPspec Gaming, an “Australian based start-up focussed on designing and selling unique gaming accessories” has shown off a display that hooks to the back of the Xbox Series S console.

Xbox Series S portable xScreen features and specifications

The xScreen hooks to the back of the Xbox Series S and connects to the HDMI port and a USB port at the back of the console. It stays secure to the console thanks to the latches on the side. You only connect the power cable to the console as the display draws power from the console's USB port. The xScreen has an 11.6-inch 1080p display with a 60Hz refresh rate. It also has stereo speakers. There are controls on the display for volume, brightness and screen settings.  The screen is compact weighing a mere 695 grams.

Considering the power of the console, the portability of the display and the fact that you need to only connect one power cord to the console for, well, power, it is quite impressive what the display can do. This isn't the first time we have seen a portable display for a gaming console, but it's nice to see the compact form factor of the Xbox Series S being accompanied by such a display this early in the console's life cycle adding a bit of portability to Microsoft’s affordable next-gen offering.

Xbox Series S portable xScreen availability

The Xbox Series S portable xScreen is expected to go on sale in early 2022 and pricing details along with launch markets will be available then.

Samsungs Galaxy Unpacked event to take place on August 11, will feature three new folding phones

Just a few days ago, we reported that Samsung could be launching three new folding phones on August 11. Notable leakster Evan Blass has stated that August 11 seems to be the likely date for the Galaxy Unpacked event. From what we know, Samsung is looking to unveil three new foldable phones on 11 August. These three phones will all be foldable smartphones and are names accordingly-  Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 Lite. Just going by the name of the phone, we could expect the Lite variant to be priced differently than the other two. Nothing has been officially announced as yet, so do take this news with a grain of salt.

It also seems that Samsung is looking at launching the Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch Active4, and Galaxy Buds2 at the event as well. The Galaxy S21 FE will not be making an appearance at the event. We also reported that According to The Korea Herald, Samsung will host the Galaxy Unpacked event in Korea on 11 August. The event will be live-streamed from Seoul and will feature the announcement of the three new foldable phones. As we already know, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is thinner and lighter in comparison to the Fold 2. When folded, it measures 14.5 millimetres in thickness and 15.6 millimetres including the rear camera bump and when unfolded, Fold 3 has a thickness of just 6.6 millimetres which translates to 7.7 millimetres including the camera bump. The overall dimensions are 158.1 x 64.8 x 14.5mm (15.6mm including rear camera bump) when folded and roughly 158.1 x 128.1 x 6.6mm (7.7mm including rear camera bump) when unfolded.

The Flip3 however will come in a flip-phone style design and as we’ve said before, the Lite could be priced lower than the base Flip3. The report also speculated that the Flip3’s cover display could be expanded from 1.1 inches to 1.9 inches. As the year hits the midway point, we’re seeing Samsung take a more experimental approach to the launch of the Fold and Flip series of devices. We’ll only know more when the company finally announces the three phones in August.
