Android 12 will allow users to play a game while it downloads

Android 12 will enable users to start playing a game while it downloads on their smartphones. The new feature was announced at Google for Games Developer Summit 2021. The new feature is especially useful for games with a large download size, such as those between 2GB to 5GB. Users can now start playing such large titles as they download in the background.

Android 12 fast game download feature

Android 12 brings new features for games

Google's Android 12 will use a feature called “Play Asset Delivery,” which allows game developers with a game larger than 150MB to publish a single artifact with all the necessary resources to start it. In other words, it breaks the game into multiple playable chunks, which users can easily download and start playing, while the rest of the game installs in the background.

In their presentation, Google demonstrated that a 127MB game became available to play twice as fast on Android 12 as compared to 11. It should be noted that game consoles like the PlayStation and Xbox already have such a feature in which you can start playing a game once a certain amount of it downloads in your storage.

Additionally, Android 12 will also launch with a brand new gaming-focused dashboard featuring quick access to features like screenshots, recording, etc. The Android 12 gaming dashboard will launch on "select" devices later this year. OEMs like ASUS, OnePlus and others that make performance-oriented smartphones already offer some form of a gaming dashboard. With Android 12 though, this feature will become universal.

Gaming on Android is picking up “steam” as several PC-focused developers continue to launch versions of their games on smartphones. Following the success of miHoYo developed, Genshin Impact, Sandbox Interactive also launched Albion Online on Android smartphones. Games from other notable titles like League of Legends, Diablo, and Apex Legends are also set to make their debut on smartphones.

Call of Duty: Mobile may be teasing the return of Zombie mode

Call of Duty: Mobile official social media pages have teased something quite mysterious. The video simply shows an unearthly glow underwater. In the background, players can hear sounds of power tools and something being built. Many players assume that the developers are teasing the reintroduction of the Zombies mode to Call of Duty: Mobile. In fact, the developers themselves stated a few months back that they planned to bring back the mode sometime later this year.

— Call of Duty: Mobile (@PlayCODMobile) July 11, 2021

What does seem to confuse some people is that the glow seems to be in the Sakura region of the BR map, Isolated. As such, some players are skeptical of this being a teaser to Zombies mode. To recall, Zombies mode was a completely separate entity from Multiplayer and Battle Royale modes. Some players have also pointed towards the Chinese version of the game for answers. In that version of the game, the Sakura region of the map is at night. So this could very well be a teaser for a night mode. Adding fuel to this theory is the fact that the developers have used the hashtag #Day0Night0.

Call of Duty: Mobile’s Zombie mode was a short lived mode that was pretty divisive. Some players liked the fact that they could play co-op with their friends, while others (including us) felt that the game mode lacked polish. It’s been over a year since the mode was taken offline and it hasn’t come back since. Considering that the game mode’s statistics are still a part of Call of Duty: Mobile player profile, players assume the mode will come sooner rather than later. In fact, Activision reportedly changed the game’s icon in Brazil. The new icon shows Ghost alongside a zombified version of Primis Richtofen, one of the antagonists of the original Zombies storyline. Further, the background also seems to match up with the ‘Die Machine’ Zombie map from Call of Duty: Cold War. So the signs all point towards some sort of zombie-related activity in Call of Duty: Mobile.

OnePlus Nord 2 to become the first smartphone to feature OxygenOS based on shared codebase with Oppo

OnePlus is ready to launch its next smartphone, the Nord 2 in India later this month. The phone is expected to be the next big release from the company, and ahead of its launch, details about the device have already started to find their way online.

While there have been a lot of leaks around the phone, the company has now given an exclusive interview to XDADevelopers where it has confirmed that the Nord 2 will indeed be the first phone from the company to feature the new OxygenOS 11.3 -- a UI that uses the integrated OxygenOS and ColorOS codebase. The news comes after OnePlus had previously announced the merger of OxygenOS and Oppo's ColorOS.

The information was revealed by OnePlus’ Head of Product, Oliver Zhang who also claimed there won't be too many changes to OS, and that it would be very close to the vanilla OxygenOS. OnePlus had previously explained how using the same codebase for the OxygenOS and ColorOS will ensure not only more scope for innovation but also make it easier for OnePlus and Oppo to jointly develop operating systems in the future.

OnePlus Nord 2: Expected specifications

Talking about the phone, the OnePlus Nord 2 is expected to feature a 6.43-inch Full HD+ display that uses an AMOLED panel with support for 90Hz refresh rate along with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Previously, rumours have suggested the Nord 2 could be the first OnePlus phone to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor and will likely be offered with upto 12GB RAM and 256GB storage options to choose from.

Apart from this, the Nord 2 is expected to come with a triple camera set-up on the back. There could be a 50MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP macro camera to complete the set-up. The phone is also expected to bring with it a front-facing 32MP camera. For battery, the OnePlus Nord 2 could be equipped with a 4,500mAh pack with possibly support for fast charging.
