Apple says chip shortage could impact iPhone production in Q4, 2021

Apple posted record third-quarter results but it also forecasts a slow down moving forward on account of the worsening impact of chip shortage that is already affecting Macs and iPads and will extend to iPhone production in the fourth quarter.

During a call to investors, Chief Executive Tim Cook said that the older chips are affected by shortage but these are still needed as supporting parts to make iPhones.

Tim declined to comment on whether the impact of chip shortage would continue in the first quarter of the next fiscal year. Angelo Zino, an analyst with research firm CFRA, said Apple could be stockpiling chips for its upcoming iPhones at the expense of the existing ones.

Apple said that the revenue for Q4 will still see double-digit growth, but not as much to match the 36.4% growth in the last quarter. Apple will soon release new iPhones, Apple Watch, and AirPods and these should hopefully bolster the revenue during the next quarter.

It must also be noted that the Cupertino giant made a similar prediction of revenue being hit due to chip shortage to its investors in the last quarter, but the impact so far has been significantly lower than expected.

Mac and iPad sales increased year on year as well. Macs made $8.24 billion in revenue and iPad made another 7.37 billion. Revenue from other products that include AirPods and the Apple Watch saw a 40% increase YoY, bring in a revenue of $8.77 billion. Apart from hardware, services accounted for $17.48 billion, a 33% growth YoY.

Garena Free Fire Season 39 Elite Pass leak suggest addition of scarecrow themed items

The month of August is about to start, which also means that games are gearing up to release their monthly updates. Garena Free Fire is usually one of the early ones to get the update and it looks like we might have gotten a sneak peek at the upcoming Season 39 Elite Pass. Youtuber, Free Fire Worst has posted a video that details some of the new additions that players can expect.

Garena Free Fire: Season 39 Elite Pass

According to the video, it seems like Garena Free Fire may be planning to spend Halloween early. Those players who purchase the Season 38 Elite Pass will reportedly get their hands on Scarecrow-themed outfits for both male and female characters. Namely the Fiery Scarecrow outfit. It is also noted that players will also be able to unlock skins and outfits with the Wildland Walkers theme.

There might not be a OnePlus 9T this year

OnePlus has had a busy 2021 so far but looks like things are going to take a downturn in the second half. Max Jambor, a reliable source for smartphone leaks, has revealed in a terse tweet that there would be no 9T this year. Max was also the first last year to reveal that OnePlus had cancelled the 8T Pro in order to focus on the 8T.

He doesn’t say if OnePlus is opting for a new naming scheme or planing something else, but in all likelihood, the OnePlus 9T has been cancelled for good - and we are not exactly surprised.

No 9T

— Max Jambor (@MaxJmb) July 27, 2021

OnePlus started with its T series towards the end of 2016 after being rejuvenated by the success of the OnePlus 3. The idea was to not make consumers wait for the latest technology development for an entire year. In context with the 9T, we were hearing rumours of a high refresh rate LTPO display, but perhaps we will have to wait for the OnePlus 10 launch next year.

The reason why the OnePlus 9T is being cancelled?

OnePlus isn’t the only brand skipping on mid-cycle flagship refreshes in 2021. Samsung recently confirmed that the next Note phone will not launch at the upcoming Unpacked event to be held on August 11. It will still bring in Foldable phones, the much-awaited Galaxy Watch 4, and the new Galaxy Buds 2.

The reason for these cancellations is reportedly the ongoing chip shortage that’s affecting almost all of us in one way or the other. Facing the brunt of the shortage in China, Huawei has reportedly abandoned low-end smartphone production. It’s could also allegedly be cancelling the Huawei Mate 50 to focus on the Huawei P50 series.

The new development should come as a disappointment for OnePlus fans who have been waiting for the 9T. If you have been planning to buy one, it should make more sense to settle for the OnePlus 9 (which is currently being sold for an attractive discount in the Prime Day Sale).

Disney+Hotstar Mobile vs Super vs Premium plans: Whats the difference

So, Disney+ Hotstar has a great selection of content and is available on a number of devices from your Smart TV, smartphone and even streaming dongles like the Fire TV Stick. Disney+ Hotstar is not only home to all of Disney’s content such as the new MCU shows like WandaVision (review), Falcon and the Winter Soldier (review) and most recently Loki (review) but also sports broadcasts in India like the IPL and even a lot of Hollywood movies and TV shows. Not to mention Hotstar originals.

The platform used to have 2 different plans - Disney+ Hotstar VIP and Disney+ Hotstar Premium, but now, it seems that from September 1st onward, Disney+Hotstar will be offering three different plans for users. So, what exactly do these three plans offer? Well, we’re here to find out and give you guys a breakdown on which plan is ideal for you.

Disney+Hotstar new plans from 1st September

The first up is the Mobile plan for INR 499/- per year. This is the cheapest plan on the platform and will allow you to stream content from a single device and is a mobile-only plan! So, do keep that in mind that you will only be able to consume content on your smartphone. You will not be able to use this plan to watch content on a TV or larger screen. The content streamed to your device will be in HD though. So there is that!

If you’re someone who watches most of their content on a mobile phone, then this is the best plan for you.

Up next, we’ve got the Super plan for INR 899/- per year. This plan will give you access to 2 devices across mobile, web and living room devices. This means that you will be able to watch content on two separate screens, such as a mobile phone or your TV. Again, all the content is in HD.

This plan is perfect for a small family or even just a couple. The two screens will allow you and one other person to consume Disney+Hotstar content at the same time.

And finally, we have the Premium plan for INR 1499/- per year. With this plan, you will get access to 4 devices across mobile, web and living room devices. You will be able to stream content to four different screens at the same time. This plan also gives users access to 4K content as well.

This plan is perfect for large families with multiple screens at home.

For example, your kids could watch cartoons on an iPad, while you catch up on some HBO content on your living room TV while two other family members watch whatever they want on their screens. And although this plan does cost a bit, remember that it’s for the whole year.

For the first time, subscribers will be able to access the full content catalogue across languages including the vast library of Disney content like Disney+ Originals, latest American shows and blockbuster Hollywood movies; irrespective of their preferred plan of choice.
