New OnePlus 9R and OnePlus 8T are now shipping with LPDDR5 RAM

Both the OnePlus 8T (review) and OnePlus 9R (review), which are notoriously more similar than different, debuted with LPDDR4x RAM. Somewhere down the line, however, OnePlus quietly upgraded the RAM on these mid-rangers to LPDDR5.

The official page for OnePlus 8T still advertises LPDDR4x as the RAM type, while the OnePlus 9R’s official listing refrains from detailing the RAM type altogether.

As XDADevelopers point out, the difference became known when users tried to unbrick their 8T or 9R using the MSMDownloadTool, which wasn’t compatible with the LPDDR5 RAM variant.

Each generation of LPDDR (which by the way stands for Low Power Double Data Rate) RAM, strives to increase speeds and reduce power consumption. Compared to LPDDR4x, the LPDDR5 uses techniques like bank grouping to deliver 50% faster speeds. It also manages to reduce the power consumption by up to 30% using holistic design improvements and a deep sleep mode.

That’s a significant gap, yet most OnePlus 8T or 9R users won’t be able to tell the difference save for while engaged in demanding tasks like gaming and game streaming.

OnePlus hasn’t specified the reason for the switch, but if we had to guess, it could be due to a shortage and the need to keep the production lines running. A downgrade would have understandably raised a furore, so the upgrade to LPDDR5 RAM would have made sense.

How to check if your OnePlus 8T or OnePlus 9R has LPDDR5 RAM?

You can use the following ADB command to find out if your OnePlus 8T or 9R has LPDDR5 or LPDDR4x RAM.

 adb shell getprop ro.boot.ddr_type

If the ADB terminal returns a value ‘0’, then your phone has LPDDR4x RAM. For phones that have LPDDR5 RAM, the command will return a value ‘1’.

PUBG New State : Pre-Registrations, Release Date for iOS users

KRAFTON had previously announced that they will be releasing PUBG New State in the second half of 2021.

PUBG New State

Following that announcement, KRAFTON recently announced that the pre-registration for iOS devices for PUBG New State will begin in August worldwide. However, India won’t be a part of said pre-registrations. It was also recently revealed that New State’s Closed Alpha has concluded and the game has surpassed 20 million pre-registrations on the Google Play Store making it one of the biggest achievements for KRAFTON which is also still contemplating it’s release for BGMI on iOS.

In a blog post from Krafton, Krafton said PUBG New State iOS pre registrations will open next month worldwide except in India, China and Vietnam, the three countries where Krafton is yet to announce the new PUBG game. Only iOS users will be able to take part in the pre-registrations and details about it will be coming in towards the end of the month.

There are no plans that Krafton has revealed yet that say anything about the future of PUBG New State in India but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be coming over to the region. Krafton had previously said that their priority was to get Battlegrounds Mobile India out first and then steer towards the release of PUBG New State for the region. Now that BGMI is out and is rapidly growing in terms of player base and recently crossed over 1 crore downloads from the play store. The release of BGMI on iOS devices is still in limbo and players are eagerly waiting for an announcement in the matter. Krafton says they will have some news for them in the near future.

nCore Games coming up with TDM Mode for FAU-G

The FAU-G mobile game or Fearless and United Guards developed by Bengaluru based nCore Games has recently released a closed beta version of their action mobile game FAU-G which will include a TDM Mode or team deathmatch mode for their players to enjoy with their friends or other people they may meet online. The mode is said to be a 5v5 shooter in which only one team comes out on top.

FAUG TDM Mode

Bollywood Star and Investor in nCore Games Akshay Kumar took to Instagram to share the teaser of the upcoming mode.

A post shared by Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar)

In the FAUG TDM mode, the players will keep respawning until a certain number of deaths is reached on one team or until the time runs out. FAU-G, which was originally released as a PUBG alternative after its ban, however it was not able to capture the same market as PUBG did due to its lower quality graphics and the lack of a multiplayer mode.

However, things might change for FAU-G now since they’ve brought their TDM mode into the pool but gaining a player base would be difficult for them considering how BGMI or Battlegrounds India Mobile is all the rage these days.

FAU-G may have more maps to come but as of right now in Early Access, there’s only one map to play on named ‘Bazaar’. Another noteworthy thing in Early access is the addition of guns to the game which was lacking in the singleplayer mode of the game where the only option was hand to hand combat. The number of guns being added to the game remains unknown.

Even though the Early Access Program on the Google Play Store is full, you can still manage to find links to the FAU-G game download apk of the TDM beta if you want to try it out and think it’s worth a shot. There's no fix on the FAUG TDM mode release date.

Oppo has launched a new 4G variant of Reno6 5G (review) that has slightly different specifications and a curvier design as compared to the existing Reno6 5G. In fact, the Reno6 4G is almost identical to the Snapdragon 720G powered Reno5 4G that launched in China towards the end of last year.

This kind of rehashing across markets is quite common in the smartphone realm these days. Compared to the Reno6 5G, the 4G variant gets an upgraded 44MP selfie camera, an additional monochrome sensor on the rear, and slightly slower 50W charging.

Oppo Reno6 4G Price and Availability

Oppo Reno6 4G is available in Stellar Black and Aurora colour options in Indonesia. The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant goes for  IDR 5,199,000 (roughly Rs. 26,700) in the country.

Oppo Reno6 4g Specifications

The Reno6 4G has the same design as the Reno5 series but the Reno glow finish on the back seems similar to what Oppo uses for the Reno6 series. The phone measures 159.1 x 73.3 x 7.8mm in dimensions and tips the scale at 173 grams.

As mentioned above, the Snapdragon 720G chipset powering the phone is assisted by 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. Users will have the option to expand storage using a microSD card. The 6.4-inch full-HD+ (1,080x2,400 pixels) AMOLED display supports a 90Hz refresh rate and claims a peak brightness of 600 nits.

Biometric unlock options include an in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock. As for photography and videography, there is a 64MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide shooter, a 2MPl macro lens and a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor. The selfie camera has a 44-megapixel sensor with an f/2.4 aperture lens.

The Reno6 4G accommodates a 4,310mAh battery with 50W Flash Charge VOOC 4.0 support. Connectivity options include dual SIM support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

Apple says chip shortage could impact iPhone production in Q4, 2021

Apple posted record third-quarter results but it also forecasts a slow down moving forward on account of the worsening impact of chip shortage that is already affecting Macs and iPads and will extend to iPhone production in the fourth quarter.

During a call to investors, Chief Executive Tim Cook said that the older chips are affected by shortage but these are still needed as supporting parts to make iPhones.

Tim declined to comment on whether the impact of chip shortage would continue in the first quarter of the next fiscal year. Angelo Zino, an analyst with research firm CFRA, said Apple could be stockpiling chips for its upcoming iPhones at the expense of the existing ones.

Apple said that the revenue for Q4 will still see double-digit growth, but not as much to match the 36.4% growth in the last quarter. Apple will soon release new iPhones, Apple Watch, and AirPods and these should hopefully bolster the revenue during the next quarter.

It must also be noted that the Cupertino giant made a similar prediction of revenue being hit due to chip shortage to its investors in the last quarter, but the impact so far has been significantly lower than expected.

Revenue from other products that include AirPods and the Apple Watch saw a 40% increase YoY, bring in a revenue of $8.77 billion.
