Is the Realme GT the most affordable Snapdragon 888 phone Heres what you need to know

Realme is all set to launch its latest smartphones, the Realme GT and the Realme GT Master Edition in India tomorrow. Of the two, the Realme GT is expected to be the more powerful one as it will come with a Snapdragon 888 SoC underneath the hood. Ahead of the launch, there have been a few hints already about the pricing of the two phones. 

A new tweet by Realme's CEO, Madhav Sheth, hints that the company could be all set to launch the Realme GT at a price point that will make it the most affordable Snapdragon 888 phone in India. Currently, that title is held by the Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro, which is priced at Rs 39,990.

As for the Realme GT Master Edition, a leak by tipster, Yogesh, claims the phone will be offered in 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB storage options. Additionally, he claims that the phone will be available in three colours -- Cosmos Black, Luna White, and Voyager Grey. The price of the phone according to the tipster will start at Rs 25,999 and Rs. 27,999 respectively.

Realme GT, Master Edition: Expected specs

The Realme GT 5G could bring a 6.43-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with support for up to a 120Hz refresh rate. We should also be seeing the Snapdragon 888 5G chip at work along with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM. The Realme GT 5G will also pack a 4,500mAh battery inside with support for up to 65W fast-charging. The phone will offer Dual-5G mode, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port for charging. Realme GT 5G will also have a triple-camera setup at the back whereas, on the front, it'll house a 16MP selfie camera. Apart from the two GT phones, Realme will also be launching its first laptop in India on August 18.

Motorola Edge 20 overshadows Realme GT Master Edition, as the first phone with Snapdragon 778 in India

Motorola Edge 20 and Motorola Edge 20 Fusion have officially launched in India as the latest phones from the company. The Edge 20 is the first phone in India to be powered by the Snapdragon 778 processor, besting the Realme GT Master Edition which launches tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Edge 20 Fusion is a mid-range phone priced in the upper echelons going up against the likes of the OnePlus Nord CE, Mi 11 Lite and more.

Motorola Edge 20 and Edge 20 Fusion pricing and availability

The Motorola Edge 20 is priced at Rs 29,999 in India for the sole 8GB+128GB variant. As for the Edge 20 Fusion, it is priced starting at Rs 21,999 for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage and Rs 22,999 for the 8GB+128GB storage option.

The Motorola Edge 20 goes on its first sale on August 24, while the Edge 20 Fusion goes on sale from August 27 in India. Both phones will be available to purchase from Flipkart.

Motorola Edge 20 specifications

The Motorola Edge 20 features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ (2400x1080 pixels) resolution OLED display that has a punch-hole notch cutout for the selfie camera. The phone uses a 10-bit panel that can reproduce over 1Billion colours, supporting upto 144Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ certification. It is also topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass 3.

The Edge 20 has an aluminium frame and a plastic back with a gradient finish. It measures 6.99mm in thickness and weighs 163gm making it one of the thinnest and lightest phones in this price range. It also has a water-repellent coating, but is not IP rated. It is available in Frosted Emerald and Frosted Pearl colours to choose from.

As mentioned earlier, the Edge 20 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G processor that has an octa-core CPU running at upto 2.4GHz with Adreno 642L GPU. This is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. It runs on stock Android 11 out-of-the-box.

The phone has triple cameras on the back that consists of a primary 108MP camera, an 8MP telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom with OIS, and a 16MP ultra-wide camera with 119-degree field-of-view. The rear cameras can record in 4K UHD at 30FPS. On the front, there is a 32MP selfie camera.

It has an in-display fingerprint reader and is equipped with a 4,000mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging out-of-the-box.

Motorola Edge 20 Fusion specifications

The Motorola Edge 20 Fusion features a 6.7-inch OLED display that offers Full HD+ (2400x1080 pixels) resolution and supports up to a 90Hz refresh rate. The Edge 20 Fusion is based on the Edge 20 Lite that launched globally in July. It measures 8.3mm in thickness and weighs 185gm. The phone has a plastic build and is water repellent. It is being offered in two colours - Cyber Teal and Electric Graphite.

It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor with an octa-core CPU clocked at up to 2.4GHz. It is available with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage options to choose from. Like the Motorola Edge 20, the Edge 20 Fusion also runs on stock Android 11 out-of-the-box.

The Edge 20 Fusion has triple cameras on the back headlined by a 108MP camera, 8MP ultra-wide camera with 118-degree field-of-view, and 2MP depth sensor. There is a 32MP selfie camera upfront. The rear cameras can record in 4K UHD at 30FPS.

The Edge 20 Fusion is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphones will use the next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 chips in more regions instead of the Exynos SoC featuring AMD graphics, according to a report. The report from Lanzuk claims that Samsung's next-gen Exynos chips with AMD GPUs will have limited supplies, with product availability restricted to a few regions worldwide. Samsung blames low yield and production issues for the wider unavailability of its upcoming next-gen Exynos chips. As a result, most Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphones will use the Snapdragon 898 SoC instead to make up for it.

According to rumours, the new AMD GPU in the Exynos chip is a monster in terms of performance and even beats the Apple A14 Bionic chipset available in iPhone 12. AMD is using the RDNA 2 GPU architecture, which it also uses in PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, to level up the next generation of mobile gaming.

With its partnership with AMD, Samsung is looking to boost the GPU performance on its smartphones and tip the scales in its favour.
