Apple iPhone 13 Pro could skip 256GB storage variant, as per latest report

Apple will most likely eliminate the 256GB storage variant option for its iPhone 13 Pro model rumoured to launch sometime in September. The information comes from a leaked poster which details information about all the iPhone 13 series and iPhone 13 Pro series smartphones.

The iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13 will get 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options. Meanwhile the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will skip the 256GB storage variant and instead debut with a 128GB, 512GB, and a 1TB variant.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro Specs Storage price in India details features

Apple iPhone 13 Pro 256GB Storage Variant Missing

Apple has had a history of cutting useful features from its iPhones. It first started the trend of removing headphone jacks from the iPhones and then regressed to removing bundled chargers.

Apple uses the strategy of cost-cutting to force people to buy its expensive products. For most people, the iPhone 13 Pro 256GB would suffice but it prevents people from opting for the more expensive 512GB variant, so Apple is removing this variant altogether. Furthermore, Apple is offering a top-spec 1TB variant for both iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

In terms of specs, the iPhone 13 will feature an A15 Bionic SoC, an XDR display for the iPhone 13 series and a 120Hz OLED panel for iPhone 13 Pro series, as per the leaked poster. The upcoming iPhone 13 is also rumoured to feature satellite calling abilities and more such over the top features. Alas, all shall be revealed really soon.

Furthermore, if you’re planning to buy an iPhone, then buying one post Apple’s event would be the best option as older devices like iPhones 11 and 12 will receive a permanent price cut.

ASUS new laptops target creative professionals with an OLED panel and 100 colour coverage

ASUS has launched a bunch of laptops that are targeted towards creative professionals. In addition to the two new ProArt StudioBook laptops, the company has updated a handful of its existing machine to come with OLED panels now. It includes the budget-oriented VivoBook line, the ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED, and the ExpertBook business laptops. So let's take a quick look at them -

ASUS ProArt StudioBook 16 and StudioBook 16 Pro

ASUS ProArt StudioBook 16/ 16 Pro

Both the ProArt StudioBook 16 and the StudioBook 16 Pro have 16-inch OLED HDR panels that cover 100 per cent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and deliver a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. They're clearly targeted towards the creative professionals working with colour critical applications.

The laptops also come with a new peripheral called the ASUS Dial, which is essentially a physical wheel that sits on the left side of the keyboard deck. This particular wheel can be mapped to adjust various parameters in photo and video editing applications.

In terms of the specifications, the StudioBook 16 Pro can be configured with either an AMD Ryzen 5000 H-Series mobile processor or an Intel Xeon processor along with an Nvidia RTX A2000 or A5000 GPU. The regular StudioBook 16 can come with a Ryzen 5000 H-series or Intel Core i7 chip. This particular model comes with Nvidia's 30-series GPUs. It will be interesting to see which variants will eventually land in India.

Both of these machines will go on sale in Q4 2021 and they start at $1,999 AND $2,499. There's no word about the Indian availability for these laptops though.

Other Creative-Centric Laptops

In addition to StudioBook laptops, ASUS has also updated a handful of its other laptops. The budget-centric VivoBook line has also been updated to have OLED panels now. Some of the laptops in this series will also have a digital version of the ASUS Dial built into the touchpad. We'll have more to talk about the pricing if/when they're ready to arrive in India.

There's also a new ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED model featuring the secondary touchscreen on the keyboard deck. This particular laptop can be configured to have up to a Core i9 processor and an RTX 3070 GPU. There's also a Ryzen variant with an RTX 3050Ti GPU.

ASUS has also updated the ExpertBook business laptop to have an OLED panel now. We reviewed the last ExpertBook laptop a few months back and we think the addition of the OLED panel will make it even better. The new ExpertBook B5 OLED and convertible B5 Flip OLED are both powered by 11th Gen Intel processors now.

We like how ASUS is going all-in with OLED panels now. More specifically, it's good to see even the budget-oriented laptops in the VivoBook lineup get the OLED treatment. We'll have more to talk about these laptops when they're ready to launch in India. Stay tuned for more info on that.

Airtel looks to take cloud gaming in India to the next level with latest 5G trial

Airtel has successfully conducted a cloud gaming session as part of its ongoing 5G trials in India. Bharti Airtel is one of the leading telecom operators in India and it is currently testing out 5G connectivity on a test network allotted by the Department of Telecom (DoT). Airtel is pushing cloud gaming as one of the primary use cases of 5G connectivity. The cloud gaming session was conducted in Manesar Gurgaon where Airtel partnered with Blacknut cloud gaming service and two popular Indian online streamers Mortal (Naman Mathur) and Mamba (Salman Ahmed).

Proud to become India’s 1st telecom company to successfully exhibit cloud gaming on our test network with ace gamers @Mortal04907880 & @8bitMamba_ in Manesar. We’re #5G ready, are you? #Airtel5G pic.twitter.com/al1qHPhzAb

— airtel India (@airtelindia) September 2, 2021

For the uninitiated, cloud gaming is an extension of online gaming that allows users to run the entirety of a game online without requiring them to download it first. This requires high-speed low-latency internet connectivity which is something that a 5G network brings to the table.

Randeep Sekhon, CTO of Bharti Airtel said, “Cloud gaming will be one of the biggest use cases of 5G thanks to the combination of high speed and low latency. After delivering India’s first 5G demo over a test network, we are thrilled to conduct this exciting 5G gaming session. Imagine enjoying real-time gaming on the go with someone sitting in another part of the world. This is just the beginning of an exciting digital future that Airtel will enable for its customers as we prepare to roll out 5G in India.

Airtel has revealed that for its latest 5G trials, it connected a smartphone to a 3500MHz spectrum band which delivered speeds over 1Gbps and a latency in the range of 10milliseconds. A sprint racing challenge in Asphalt was given to Mortal and Mamba to test out the cloud gaming performance of the 5G test network.

“We were totally blown away. This was a high-end PC and console-quality gaming experience on a smartphone. We can say with confidence that 5G will truly unlock the online gaming scene in India and massify by creating opportunities to build and publish games out of India and bringing a lot of talented gamers from small towns to the mainstream,” said Mortal and Mamba, describing their cloud gaming experience.

According to a report by Statista, India’s base of 436 million online gamers is expected to reach 510 million by 2022. The mobile gaming market in India is set to develop into a $2.4 billion opportunity.

Airtel also demonstrated 5G services over a 4G network earlier this year and is currently conducting trials across different Indian cities and has partnered with Ericsson and Nokia for these trials.
