MediaTek Dimensity 2000 tipped to be better than Snapdragon 898 and Exynos 2200 SoCs

Over the last few weeks, we've been hearing rumours about MediaTek's plans to release a new flagship chipset in the form of the Dimensity 2000 SoC. And now, details are emerging about this chipset. The latest information hints that the new MediaTek chipset could be really powerful. In fact, if the latest reports are to be believed, it may be even more powerful than the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 898.

As per the new report, the Dimensity 2000 will be built using MediaTek's 4nm process. This also falls in line with information received in the past that MediaTek is working on a new chipset using the world-first 4nm manufacturing process built by TSMC. If this chipset is indeed built using the TSMC nodes, it could bring some advantage over Qualcomm and Samsung chipsets.

Mediatek Dimensity new chip

This is because the upcoming flagship chipsets from Snapdragon and Exynos are expected to be built on Samsung's 5 nm process which in the past has proved to suffer from efficiency issues. In comparison, TSMC's chips built using a more advanced process should yield better results. The leak shared on Weibo also claims the specifications of this chip will be impressive as the chip will feature ARM V9 architecture, enabling it to offer powerful performance.

MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC: Specifications

For now, little else is known about the chip. However, as we mentioned above, it will in any case be more powerful than the current generation MediaTek flagship chipset, the Dimensity 1200 SoC. This is a 6nm chip that features an octa-core CPU. At the heart of the chip is a prime Cortex-A78 core clocked at 3.0GHz and three Cortex-A78 performance cores running at 2.6GHz and four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. MediaTek claims that the processor is 22% faster and 25% more power-efficient than previous generation processors.

This is supported by Mali-G77 GPU and up to 16GB LPDDR4x memory. The new MediaTek chipset also promises improved performance with support for MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 gaming technology. It also promises to enhance the smartphone gaming experience with improved wireless audio and Ray Traced graphics capabilities.

Intel NUC X15 is a reference gaming laptop kit powered by an 11th gen Core i7-11800H CPU & RTX 3070 GPU

Intel has released a reference gaming laptop kit called the NUC X15. We're looking at a handful of configurations for this laptop, all powered by the Tiger Lake processors and Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs. We're not entirely sure about the companies that plan on releasing the NUC X15 kit, but we do know all the confirmed specifications of all configurations, via Notebookcheck.

Save for the core specifications, all configurations have dual-SODIMMs, a mechanical keyboard with per-key RGB lighting, and a 16:9 display. You also get a choice to get a QHD display with up to a 165Hz refresh rate. So we're looking at some high-end features here for this laptop kit.

Intel NUC X15 Specifications

Intel NUC X15 reference laptop kit

Intel NUC X15's entry-level unit comes with a Core i5-11400H and an RTX 3060 GPU. You get an FHD 144Hz panel with this particular laptop. The rest of the configurations come fitted with a Core i7-11800H CPU and an RTX 3070 GPU. For these units, you get to choose between a QHD/165 Hz display or an FHD panel with support for up to 240Hz.

Essentially, all CPUs powering these kits are Intel's new H45 processors. That being said, Intel hasn't mentioned the TGP ratings of the RTX GPUs, so we're not entirely sure if we're looking at the normal Max-P or Max-Q variants of those cards. All units are kept powered by a 94Wh and we're looking at some other noteworthy additions like support for PCIe Gen4 NVMe, Intel Optane memory, Thunderbolt 4, magnesium alloy chassis, and more.

As mentioned earlier, Intel hasn't hinted at any recommended pricing for these reference kits, and it's also hard to tell which OEMs will be willing to carry these kits. It's interesting to see these laptops kits coming directly from Intel to show the kind of performance you can expect out of gaming laptops now. We'll try to get our hands on one of these reference machines, so stay tuned for more info. In the meantime, if you are curious about Intel's NUC lineup, we recently reviewed one of their more powerful machines dubbed the NUC 11 Extreme "Beast Canyon".
