The Google Weather App gets a bit of a makeover after being hit by a bug

Earlier in May this year, Google rolled out a Weather App promising users with a new experience. The app was out with some great changes. The search bar of the app was revamped, a special material theme element with more rounded corners of the elements on screen was introduced. Also, just like the Google Play Store, Google had knocked off the entire Navigation Drawer and moved those options to the Profile Photo Icon.

But, soon after it was rolled out, around after a week, the company had abruptly paused the rollout and the users were back to the same old designed app. Later, it was realised that the app had been hit by some bug and some users were facing some glitches while using the app.

Google Weather App Download: App Rolled Out Again

After about two months of that abrupt halt, the app has been rolled out again for the users with some new visible changes. It can be clearly seen that the app has undergone a serious design makeover. These are some of the biggest changes Google has rolled out in its Weather App in years.

As per the update, the Material Theme is back with a search bar with rounded corners and updated tab indicators for Today, Tomorrow, and 10 days.  Also, the navigation drawer is gone and all the options are back into the Profile Picture Icon. Tapping it, a dropdown menu appears with settings to change the Temperature Units and an option “Add to Homepage” Shortcut.

Along with this new menu layout, the background on the Google Weather page has also received a minor change. While it still shows a frog in different scenes based on the weather and time of day, it now has a different art style. The redesign doesn’t affect the ‘Tomorrow’ and ’10 Days’ tabs. Swiping up on the ‘Today’ tab still shows additional weather info in the current layout.

Next, the status bar displays the right colour according to the weather condition instead of the white bar (was affected by the bug, seems that has been resolved).  The bug related to switching and searching for different cities has also been resolved.

There are no other changes to the core forecasting experience and the company is still using weather.com for data. Users in the US who own the Google Nest Hub and the Google Hub Max can use the new feature Air Quality (AQI) in the weather App through their Hub Device.

As per the report, the decision to roll out this redesigned Weather app comes ahead of Google’s launch of its next Android operating system expected to arrive later this year, along with a new Weather app widget.

Microsoft Surface Go 3 tablet tipped to launch this month with the same design and Intel chips

Microsoft's Surface Go tablet range has been one of the more unique offerings in the tablet space, and it looks like the company is all set to bring the next unit in the series, the Surface Go 3 tablet. It's currently speculated to arrive later this month when the company is slated to announce a couple of new hardware offerings.

While we wait for that to happen, we have some leaked information about this upcoming tablet, and it looks like we'll once again be seeing Intel chips in use for these tablets instead of ARM. German publication WinFuture.de has reported that the Microsoft Surface Go 3 may come in two different variants. However, both of them are expected to make use of the Intel chips.

Microsoft Surface Go tablet

One of them is expected to be powered by the Intel Pentium Gold 6500Y processor, a dual-core CPU with a base frequency of 1.10 GHz. The other model will most likely be powered by an Intel Core i3-10100Y processor, a relatively older quad-core unit with a base frequency of 3.60 GHz. This particular info appears to be extracted from the tablet's listing on Geekbench's database.

Microsoft Surface Go 3 expected specifications and features

The Surface Go 3 is also expected to feature the same 10.5-inch full-HD display as the predecessor. One can also expect to see a fold-out stand to go along with the tablet. Sadly, that's all the info we have about the tablet for now, but luckily we won't have to wait too long to see what Microsoft's been cooking for us behind the scenes.

Microsoft's virtual event is also expected to see the launch of Surface Duo 2. This particular device is also expected to have the same dual-screen design that saw earlier on the original model. We'll definitely have more to talk about these devices soon, so stay tuned.

Poco X3 Pro allegedly catches fire after charging, company calls it customer induced damage

Poco has launched a number of impressive phones this year, most of which have been hits with buyers. However, one of these devices has been in the news lately, and that too for all the wrong reasons. The Poco X3 Pro launched in India in March has been in the news again after an Indian Twitter user Aman Bhardwaj (@Ammybhardwaj13) claimed that his Poco X3 Pro went up in flames after 5 minutes of it being removed from the charger.

The Twitter user had also shared some images of the phone along with a receipt of the purchase of the phone. According to the shared information, the phone was purchased on June 15, 2021. The images shared by the Twitter user show the phone after it has caught fire. The phone is shown charred with the device's battery bulging out -- hinting at a possible explosion of the battery. Interestingly, the image also shows the blanket on the bed it was kept also burnt, possibly as a result of the explosion. The only silver lining here is that no one was injured during the explosion and no serious damage to the surroundings was also caused. Also of note is the fact that currently the tweet has been taken down by the user.

POCO X3 specs and features

However, not before the issue caught the eye of Poco India, which has since issued a statement on the matter. Clarifying its stance, it said: "At Poco India, customer safety is of utmost importance, and we take such matters extremely seriously. All our devices go through various levels of stringent quality tests to ensure that the quality of the device is not compromised at any level. Basis our technical investigation, the device appeared bent, and the LCM (liquid crystal module) was crushed, indicating the application of external force. This is thus classified under 'customer induced damage."
