New Jio Phone Recharge Plan to hustle in a new era of internet literacy in India
Jio has been largely credited with Internet penetration in tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India, and now, with its newest offering launched, it should further its mission to bring internet literacy all over the country. This new Jio Phone recharge plan is priced at Rs 75, making it the cheapest offering from the company so far.
What does the new Jio Phone recharge plan include? The Rs 75 recharge gives users access to unlimited phone calls over 28 days of validity. It also includes 50 SMSs per day and 200MB of data per day. Users will be able to access a host of Jio apps like JioTV, JioCinema, JioNews, JioSecurity, and JioCloud, which should allow users to gain access to a host of content.
When will the next Jio Phone be launched?Jio has also announced that it has delayed the launch of its next smartphone to Diwali. While this news came as a blow to fans of the company, the latest Jio Phone recharge plan should help keep their gloominess at bay.
Isn’t the new Jio Phone recharge plan more expensive? If one is to compare the old Jio Phone recharge plan (Rs 39) with the new one, it’s quite apparent that while on paper this plan may seem costlier, it actually works out to be more or less the same. The old Jio recharge plan priced at Rs 39 offered a validity period of 14 days along with 100MB data. This new plan offers double. While the Rs 69 plan offered 0.5GB of data per day along with 100SMSs, it also had a validity period of only 14 days. Hence, the new Jio Phone recharge plan works out to be much cheaper and should facilitate widespread smartphone adoption in tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India.

Material You: Your Gmail, Calendar and Docs app are all set for a makeover
With Android 12 featuring new design elements, Gmail has rolled out changes that directly impact the end users. These changes are purely aesthetic - this means you won’t have to relearn the way your Google apps function. The idea behind these changes is to create a more uniformed look across all your devices, allowing for greater customisation and standard graphics.
What are some of the changes under Google’s Material You?As stated earlier, Google’s Material You has focussed on making aesthetic changes to all Google apps to create a more standardised look across graphics. This means that you’ll now experience better legibility with Google’s Sans Text, see improvements in the floating action bubbles, and access updated navigation bars. As all these changes are a part of the Android 12 redesign, people using Google’s Pixel smartphones are amongst the first to experience them.
When will you receive Google Material You?The rollout period is set for 15 days, with changes to Google Drive already visible. Material You changes to Google Meet will be in effect from September 19th, while changes to Google Calendar will be in effect from September 20th. The changes are available to all Google customers, including those who use G Suite and Google Workspace.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage hitting theaters earlier than planned
Sony Pictures recently announced that the worldwide release date for Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been moved up to 1st October (the original release date was 15th October). The news came on the heels of the Spiderman: No Way Home trailer launch, with fans already excited to delve deeper into the Spiderman Universe. Marvel has also had a great week at the Box Office, with the latest installment in the MCU, Shang-Chi and the legend of Ten Rings, garnering $170 million just on the opening weekend.
Will Venom: Let There Be Carnage be a Box Office Success?Although Venom was categorised as a failure, it still grossed over $850 million worldwide, it’s fair to ponder over whether the sequel will be a success, considering the pandemic and most people’s reluctance to enter cinema halls. Venom: Let There Be Carnage will be released in cinemas worldwide, including India, on 1st October, and will be available in English, Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. Venom will be released along with the new Bond film, No Time To Die, which will hit cinemas on September 30th. It will be interesting to see which way audiences flow - however, having said that, MCU films have always seen high levels of success with Indian audiences and we can expect the same for this film.

India Moves closer to healing with the new CoWIN KYC-VS API
With India having administered 170 million (vaccination doses in August, and 17% of adults being fully vaccinated, the country is now taking concrete steps towards opening the economy and healing. To facilitate the same, the CoWin App now has a new API - the KYC-VS API or the Know Your Customer - Vaccine Status API. This means that the app will now feature an Aadhar-like verification process that allows you to update your vaccination status for others to verify.
How does the new CoWIN KYC-VS API work?Once a business integrates the API into their system, they only need to enter two key details - the name of the person they are verifying and their mobile number. The person will then receive an OTP, and once it is entered in the system, their vaccination status will be displayed. Based on the announcement on the PIB website, the only information that will be displayed is whether the person is not vaccinated, partially vaccinated, or fully vaccinated. All other details will remain private.
How will the new CoWIN KYC-VS API help India heal? With socio-economic activities all set to resume, it is essential for business owners, vendors, and other key stakeholders to be able to gauge their safety. While experts have actively reminded the public that double vaccinations do not guarantee that you will not get Covid-19, or will not transmit it to another person, knowing the vaccine status of an individual can help increase your own safety by inspiring you to take key measures while interacting with people.

Google jumps onto the voice-calling bandwagon to make Hybrid Working easier
Over the course of the pandemic, we saw Google expand its offerings to keep up with the growing needs of working professionals. While video calling apps like Zoom captured the market without skipping a beat, one can argue that Google caught on pretty quickly by integrating Meets into the Gmail Suite. Now, the company is planning an update that allows users to make direct video and voice calls directly from the inbox, without generating links to meetings. With WhatsApp dominating the market for spontaneous internet-enabled calls, it will be interesting to see how Google penetrates the same.
Is Google’s Voice and Video Call Update Too Little, Too late?Spontaneous video and voice calling are old news - but does this mean there’s no space for Google to offer the same? To mitigate the risks of joining an overcrowded market Google is offering its services within the professional space. The new update will be a part of the Google Workforce suite, which already offers video calling through Google Meet.
The new update will allow employees to chat with teammates at will, without having to go through the rigmarole of scheduling meetings and requesting links. Additionally, users can answer these calls via both the Gmail app on their smartphone, and the web interface. This can be particularly beneficial for employees managing tasks that require constant collaboration.
What are the other updates Google’s planning to offer?Google Workforce is evolving to meet the needs of a hybrid workforce. With this in mind, the company is changing the way its Rooms feature appears. Reports indicate that the Rooms will feature threaded conversations, much like Slack. The older interface will be soon replaced by four main tabs - Mail, Chat, Spaces, and Meet. Additionally, some users have already begun experiencing Meet’s Companion Mode, which is being updated to accommodate live captions and leverage video conferencing equipment.
