WhatsApp Will Now Let You Hide Your About Status Updates From Users

Don’t want the whole world to see your Whatsapp About status updates? Well, you’ll be glad to know that Whatsapp’s latest update will let you hide your status updates from certain people. This update has not been made available to beta users yet, however, reports indicate that it will be made visible alongside other privacy options once it rolls out. With Whatsapp enhancing a few of its existing privacy features, it is likely that this option will also apply to features such as Last Seen and Profile Picture updates.

Wabetainfo released a few screenshots showing the new custom privacy setting in action. Apart from showing “everyone”, ‘my contacts” and “nobody” in the About status update section, the screenshot also featured an additional option - “my contacts except…” implying that the status can be hidden from specific people.

According to Wabetainfo, this new update will be a part of the WhatsApp for Android beta 2.21.21.8 version, although beta users have not gained access to the feature yet. Additionally, it has been suggested by Wabetainfo that this feature may also be available for Last Seen and Profile Picture updates.

Whatsapp typically tests new features for a long time, so end users will probably not see the feature anytime soon.

Jio Platforms Haptik launches app that lets SMBs grow their businesses on WhatsApp

Jio Haptik, which is Jio Platforms’ customer experience AI platform, announced its new app, Interakt on Monday. This app is specifically geared towards SMBs and MSMEs to help companies grow their businesses on Whatsapp. While this is Haptik’s first platform for SMBs and MSMEs, it’s already estimated to be 50 million businesses strong.

Jio Interakt is an app that helps businesses grow via Whatsapp. It has been built on top of the official WhatsApp Business API, which means that its functionality should mirror that of Whatsapp.  Businesses will receive their own dedicated Whatsapp numbers that can be used to undertake operations such as conducting sales, managing conversations at scale, ensuring customer care, working on public relations, sending alerts, answering public enquiries and so on. There is also a Shared Inbox functionality that ensures that a brand’s in-house team has access to updated information at all times.

“WhatsApp is already the default platform for people in India to shop directly from brands and small businesses,” said Aakrit Vaish, co-founder and CEO of Haptik. “However it can get challenging for businesses to manage these interactions at scale. We believe there will be a time when WhatsApp will become the largest channel for such transactions, even bigger than the web. We have built Interakt to power this new conversational commerce economy.”

How many companies have adopted Jio Interakt?

Over 500 brands, including SleepyOwl, Bare Anatomy and The Pillow Company have already adopted Interakt and made it a part of their business operations as they are part of the early access club. The company plans to grow this number 10x within the next 6-12 months.

Interakt is said to launch new features such as automated responses, catalogue creation, advanced analytics, integrations with payment gateways.

Twitter will now let you remove followers without even blocking them

Twitter is working on a new feature that allows you to remove certain followers without having to block them. Last month, Twitter’s support page announced that it will be testing this feature to allow users to curate their own followers list. Now, after testing the feature with limited groups of people, Twitter is ready to roll out this update.

How to remove followers from Twitter?

Earlier, when users wanted to remove followers from their Twitter page, they would have to block them entirely. Now, you can simply remove specific individuals altogether. To remove a follower from your page, all you need to do is: Load your profile and click followers.

Scroll through the list until you happen upon the desired name (or manually search the handle via the search bar). Click the three dot icon next to the following button that appears near the name of the follower. Select the remove follower option from the list that appears.

Twitter’s new social privacy updates

Twitter is also working on other updates designed to enhance your privacy, according to Bloomberg. These include the following:

Archived tweets: Twitter is considering hiding tweets after a set number of days, such as 30, 60 or 90 days. There has been no confirmation regarding the launch of this particular feature, but it will certainly help people hide problematic tweets from the past.  Hiding tweets you’ve liked: Twitter will also let you hide information regarding the tweets you’ve liked. The company has not announced whether this feature will be tested soon.  Leaving conversations: Twitter will also allow users to exit from public conversations that they don’t want to be a part of. The company will reportedly start testing this feature before the end of the year.

What do you think of these new social privacy updates? Do you think that these are likely to take away a sense of accountability on the internet, or will they help create a more positive space? Let us know in the comments.

— Ashwini Vaishnaw (@AshwiniVaishnaw) October 10, 2021 BSNL can finally offer its customers 4G plans

While all other telecom companies in India offer 4G services, BSNL remained the only key player still sticking to 3G. Now it looks like BSNL is finally ready to enter the 4G market and recapture its lost audience. The government initially noted that BSNL would be able to offer 4G networks to consumers within 2 years, the Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology’s tweet indicates that the company might be fairly ahead of schedule.

While BSNL has some of the most affordable plans in the market, the lack of 4G offerings was certainly hurting the company’s revenue. It was believed that if BSNL continued to go into losses, it would be sold off to a private entity the way Air India was. IN his tweet, Vaishnaw noted that BSNL would be using a 4G system that has been designed and made in India, furthering the government’s mission to make the country as self-reliant as possible.
