Zoom will now offer users a new Live Captioning feature

Video conferencing app Zoom has begun rolling out an update that brings live captioning during video calls. These captions will be auto generated, and will also be available on Zoom Paid and Zoom Webinar accounts. While these captions are only available in English at the moment, they will soon be available in other languages too. 

What is Zoom’s Live Captioning feature?

"It is important to us that everyone can successfully connect, communicate, and participate using Zoom. Without the proper accessibility tools, people with disabilities face tremendous barriers when using video communication solutions. That is why we are focused on building out a platform that is accessible to everyone," the company said in a statement.

More Zoom Updates to Make Note Of

Zoom has announced that it is bringing new updates to its whiteboard functionality. These updates will be available later this year, and are rumoured to enable more seamless, asynchronous collaborations. What’s more, the update will be available across a range of devices in order to offer a more engaging and streamlined meeting experience for everyone on the call. 

The company claims that users will be able to interact with the whiteboard the way they would do in person. Additionally, the company is also bringing its new end-to-end encryption offering to Zoom Phone.

You May Soon Have to Verify Your Identity to Use WhatsApp Payments

A new string spotted in Whatsapp’s beta release indicates that users will have to verify their identity by submitting documents in order to use Whatsapp’s payment system. This move will certainly enhance the safety of Whatsapp Pay itself, by ensuring that only verified individuals can send and receive payments.

Who can use Whatsapp Pay right now?

At this point, anyone with Whatsapp Pay can use the system, as long as the service has verified the phone number linked to the user’s bank account. Doing so enables all UPI-based transactions. Once the update is rolled out, however, users may have to submit proper documentation to enable their KYC process before initiating their next UPI transaction. 

Why would WhatsApp need verification?

Most UPI transaction systems, such as Google Pay and PhonePe do not require any documents in order to facilitate transactions. However, as per RBI guidelines, if these apps are to create a payments wallet (the way PayTM has), then it is mandatory for their users to complete their KYC to use the app. Whatsapp may be working on creating its own wallet in order to facilitate widespread consumer adoption.

As Whatsapp is developing a host of features targeted at small to medium businesses, it is fair to assume that the update may be intended for those who use Whatsapp Business. The KYC process can then be used to verify the authenticity of the business, and minimise fraud. 

Finally, it is also believed that WhatsApp Pay may be expanding to a new region where it is mandatory to have the KYC completed. In that case, this update may not be intended for India and Brazil.

The smartphone claims to offer the best of both worlds, with high-end specifications and a more digestible price tag. The smartphone’s launch saw great success in India, and other emerging markets, which is why the brand is now capitalising on the same by offering more variants within the same lineup. 

While experts had speculated that Apple will launch the iPhone SE 3 in spring of 2022, it seems as though the same is being pushed forward in favour of the iPhone SE Plus 5G. 

Apple iPhone SE Plus 5G Features

While most of what we know about the Apple iPhone SE Plus 5G is based on speculations, there are a few consistent rumours about the specs. For instance, it is believed that the Apple iPhone SE Plus 5G will have a 4.7-inch LCD display and will be modeled on the iPhone 8. It may be powered by the A14 Bionic or A15 Bionic chipset.

Five Android 12 features you dont want to miss

Android 12 has been touted as the biggest update to hit smartphones, and there are a lot of UI and software changes in store for most Android users. The new OS has already been rolled out to Google Pixel 3 (and above), and here are some of the top features we’re most excited to see!

Android 12 New Interface

Google announced the Material You changes earlier this month, and this is perhaps the biggest change that most smartphone users will register. The Material You update brings a new aesthetic to the Android UI, with customised icons colours, changes in menu text and new wallpapers. It will also bring cosmetic changes to Google Apps on your smartphone.

Android 12 Dedicated Gaming Mode

Android 12 will also bring a dedicated gaming mode to your smartphone, and this will let you kiss those annoying notifications goodbye while you’re immersed in a game. While some smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung and OnePlus offer a gaming mode in their smartphones, the Android 12 update will make the feature native to the OS. To access Game Mode, you’ll need to first head to Settings > Notifications >  Do Not Disturb > Schedules.

Android 12 New Calculator

The native calculate app on the OS will also get a Material You update, with rounded buttons and more colour options. You’ll also be able to choose from three setting options: light, dark, and system default.

Android 12 Microphone and Camera Updates

The Android 12 update will let you turn off your camera and microphone access across all apps, giving you more control over how these apps are used. The update brings a new kill switch for both in the Permissions settings panel. The functionality is also available as a quick tile in the notification shade.

Android 12 One-handed mode

The One-handed mode is a gesture update that will let you access your notifications tiles, and other apps easily. This will be particularly useful for people who have smartphones with a large screen, like the Samsung Galaxy S21. To enable one-handed mode, you need to head to Settings > System > Gestures > One-Handed mode.
