Microsoft will launch its own Metaverse, complete with the dreaded Powerpoint

The Metaverse is all anyone can talk about, and rightly so: the concept has the power to change communications as we know it. Not wanting to miss out on the opportunity, Microsoft recently announced that it will be launching its own Metaverse, and users will be able to access business tools like MS Excel and Powerpoint on it.

Microsoft’s version of the Metaverse will be apt for professionals

Microsoft has already begun working on its first offering - a virtual version of Microsoft’s Team Chats, which will have digital avatars and the MS Office Suite. The company claims that this will be available by the first half of 2022.

Microsoft will launch its own Metaverse, complete with Powerpoint

“This pandemic has made the commercial use cases much more mainstream, even though sometimes the consumer stuff feels like science fiction,” Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella said in an interview on Bloomberg Television.

Talking about the way the Metaverse is perceived by the average consumer, Nadella said “There is nothing creepy about visiting a Covid ward remotely for a doctor to be able to help their patients, or to be able to do remote assistance in a manufacturing line in a time of Covid crisis when that manufacturing line needs to be fixed by an engineer working from home,”

What is Microsoft’s Metaverse?

Microsoft talked about the new Teams feature during its conference, Ignite, and said that users will be able to create a virtual space where they can meet and discuss ideas. It leverages Microsoft’s own technology, Mesh, which combines virtual and augmented reality through the use of specific goggles, including the brand’s HoloLens.

“You could, for instance, experience a Best Buy store in the metaverse” and check out displays and devices, Microsoft’s Vice President, Jared Spataro said. “Today when you think of a website, it is not very well connected to the physicality of what we experience.”

WhatsApp to reportedly remove time limit for Delete for Everyone feature

WhatsApp is the world's biggest instant messaging platform today, with millions of messages flowing through the platform daily. The application has managed to become so because of its ability to consistently reinvent itself by bringing new features to users. And the latest in this list could be a WhatsApp feature that will likely be very well received by its users.

As per reports, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature to remove the time limit for deleting a message from the chat. It is being reported that the ‘Delete for Everyone’ option which was first introduced in 2017, will now be getting an upgrade. This upgrade will be a major one as the feature initially had a time limit of seven seconds which later got extended to 4,096 seconds (roughly an hour) in 2018. However, now this could be changed to remove the time limit completely.

For now, there’s no official word on this matter by Meta, but it appears the feature will soon be rolled out to the application and the company will make an announcement on it. The information about this updated ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature comes courtesy of notable tracker WABetaInfo.

WABetaInfo has also made some other interesting revelations recently. It has also been reported that WhatsApp Beta for iOS (v2.21.220.15) is getting a new video playback interface that will allow users to pause, play the video in fullscreen, or close the picture-in-picture window. Interestingly, the publication claims some iOS beta testers have already started receiving this functionality.

Further, the company notes that the game will automatically default to the user’s preferred language on the Netflix profile.
