Whatsapp Update: Youll soon be able to hide your Last Seen from specific people

Whatsapp is used globally not just for personal conversations between friends and family, but also important work-related conversations with colleagues. With the latter in mind, it becomes imperative to enable certain privacy features that ensure employees are not being pressured to respond to work texts after working hours. While Whatsapp has been working on numerous updates that increase one’s privacy, the brand has recently begun working on what could be one of the most important updates for working professionals - hiding the Last Seen information from specific people. According to Wabetainfo, Whatsapp has begun testing this feature in its Beta version, and we can expect the same to be rolled out to the masses eventually.

Whatsapp Update: You’ll soon be able to hide your ‘Last Seen’ from specific people

Whatsapp will let you hide your Last Seen from specific contacts

Not all text messages hold equal priority in our lives, and unfortunately, answering texts in specific order can sometimes lead to inquisitive questions about being ignored. This annoying aspect of texting can be done away with if you can hide your Last Seen timestamp from specific people who are likely to keep tabs on you by monitoring the same. For instance, if you receive a spate of client-related messages over the weekend, this can be a huge boon for you as you can continue to reply to personal messages, without being held liable for ignoring work on weekends.

Whatsapp will let you hide your Last Seen from specific contacts

Wabetainfo spotted this feature in WhatsApp beta version 2.21.23.14. According to them, it will work in a similar fashion to new features that let you hide your profile pictures from specific contacts, and hide your status updates from specific contacts.

The option to hide the Last Seen timestamp will be offered with the following parameters - everyone, user’s contacts, user’s contacts except a list of specific people and nobody. Do note that if you disallow someone from viewing your Last Seen, you won’t be able to view theirs either.

Patreon will soon launch its own video hosting platform to compete with YouTube

Patreon surged to popularity amongst content creators on YouTube who wanted to offer a subscription model to their audiences in exchange for exclusive content. It allowed smaller creators to monetize their content faster, thereby growing their channel faster. Eventually, YouTube offered its own version of the same in the form of the Join button, leading to a lower reliance on Patreon. Now, the latter is striving to become an independent, self-reliant entity by launching its own video hosting platform.

Patreon to offer its own video hosting platform

The CEO of Patreon, Jack Conte, recently told The Verge that Patreon will be expanding into the video platform space. "We’re building the horizontal architecture for any creator, no matter their medium, or no matter the upload format, to be able to build a business around their work," he said.

Patreon to offer its own video hosting platform

Creators on YouTube and Vimeo currently share their Patreon details with their audiences when uploading videos, but soon, they will be able to upload videos and garner a paying audience on the new platform.

While Conte has been quite open about the fact that Patreon is expanding its horizons, there is no word on when we can expect to see this feature rolled out. It is also not clear whether creators will only rely on Patreon subscriptions for revenue, or can also generate revenue through ads placed in their videos. The platform will most likely make things clearer once they are closer to the launch date.

Watch out, YouTube

Other news for creators

Currently, a host of brands are leaning into the video creation space, along with offering subscription models for creators to earn revenue. Recently, Instagram also announced that it will be offering subscription packages priced at Rs 89, and creators can customise these packages as per their needs.

Twitter Blue is another example of the same.

Amazon Prime Video now allows iOS users in the US to share 30-second clips on limited shows and movies

If you’ve ever felt like sharing a bit of a film or TV show with your friends, Amazon Prime is now giving you that very option. The company announced that users on the Prime Video platform will now be able to share 30-second clips from a select number of shows. The feature is only available on iOS devices in the United States, as of now. There has been no announcement regarding the international launch or Android release in the feature. Users on iOS in the US will now be presented with a Share a Clip button on the video player. You can then click on it and send a 30-second clip of whatever you’re watching to your friends and family.

Prime Video sharing feature

What is the Sharing feature on Prime Video?

We’re not sure of the practical application of this feature and it seems like a bit of a novelty for now. To access the feature, users will have to click on the Share a Clip button after which they will be presented with an editing option. You can then cut out a 30-second clip, which can then be further tweaked and sent to your friends and family. Users can share the clip on platforms like Instagram, Messenger, Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp and Apple’s iMessage.

What shows can be shared using this feature?

As of right now, the feature is only available on a select number of shows. These include Season One of the Bos, The Wilds, Fairfax and the animated hit Invincible. Amazon has said that the company will be expanding their roster of films and shows where users can send clips from. Maybe Amazon is looking at capturing the meme market with short punchy clips, but to be really sure, we’ll just have to wait and see.
