Battlegrounds Mobile India 17 update to feature League of Legends Arcade crossover, and more
The next major update for Battlegrounds Mobile India is just around the corner. The 1.7 update will reportedly roll out on November 19 and as always, it will include a number of updates and tweaks. Most notable among them is a crossover event in partnership with Riot Games.
BGMI 1.7 update: What to expect
The crossover event will see a crossover with the new Netflix animated series called League of Legends Arcane, which is based on the popular MOBA game, League of Legends. The game is developed by Riot Games. As part of the crossover event, players will be able to experience the new Mirror World while playing. They’ll also have to battle monsters and other players.
As part of the crossover, players will see special spots on the map where they will be transported to Mirror island. There, players will transform into one of the characters from the series. They will also get access to unique weapons and skills that they can use to battle other players. Players who are defeated will return to Erangel in their original form.
Aside from this, players will also find Hexcrystals scattered across the map. Players can then access the Hexcrystal shop by pressing the special icon that is located below the map. These crystals can then be exchanged for new items. This includes the Stimulant pack and the Tactical Landing pack.
You can learn more about the update via the video below.
In related news, Krafton, the parent company of BGMI, noted that it permanently banned over 2 million accounts in just over a month. The developers noted that it had permanently banned 2,519,692 accounts in the period between October 1 and November 10. The developers also claim to have temporarily banned 706,319 accounts in the same time period.

Instagrams video selfie feature launches to prevent spam
Bots are a real problem in Instagram, with many celebrity accounts using them to boost their follower counts and increase revenue potential. In order to combat this issue, Instagram is now introducing a new feature known as the Video Selfie, which will require users to take a short video selfie in order to prove that they are real people. Meta has already made promises that it won’t use the feature to collect biometric data. Let’s just hope that they didn’t have their fingers crossed behind their backs!
How does the new Instagram Video Selfie work?As a part of the verification process, Instagram is asking users to turn their heads in different directions so that all parts of the face can be captured. The exact caption detailing the process reads “We need a short video of turning your head in different directions. This helps us confirm that you're a real person and confirm your identity".
After taking the video, users need to submit the same to Meta, who will then confirm the user’s identity. The company claims that the videos will not be shared on Instagram (which should be an incentive for people don’t share their faces to also verify their identity), and will be deleted from their servers within 30 days, but who really knows, right? Meta says that this data will not be used for facial recognition or any other purposes.
However, with the Metaverse currently underway, such video selfies can be a great tool to ensure the safety of other users. After all, if you’re just an untraceable avatar on the internet, you can practically get away with anything. With hate language and fake news being a very real threat to international cooperation and democracy, it is essential to be able to verify each and every user on the platform.
