Apple iPhone 13 production begins in India via Foxconn Plant in Chennai

Apple is doubling down its production efforts in India with the start of iPhone 13 manufacturing at the Foxconn Chennai plant. For the moment, it has reportedly begun assembling a small number of iPhone 13 units in the country but soon will ramp up the production. Already, the company has been making the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 at its two major partner manufacturers namely Foxconn and Wistron. Soon the current flagship numbered 13 will join the club. Not only that but its third-leading contractor Pegatron is also expected to begin the iPhone 12 production this month itself.

So, here’s all you need to know about Apple’s Make-in-India story:

Apple iPhone 13 Production in India: What’s the update

Apple logo

As you may know, Apple gets its production done through its partner contract manufacturers like Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron. Soon all three will be making the recent iPhones in India in some shape or form.

Here’s the latest development:

''We are excited to begin making iPhone 13 — with its beautiful design, advanced camera systems for stunning photos and videos, and the incredible performance of the A15 Bionic chip — right here in India for our local customers,'' said Apple in a press statement while announcing the start of iPhone 13 making at its Foxconn unit.

Just so you know, Foxconn India has its unit set at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai and Wistron India is based in the Narasapura industrial area of Karnataka state.

Pegatron, as mentioned earlier, is also likely to begin iPhone production this month at Chengalpet in Tamil Nadu.

The Indian Government’s Production Linked Initiative Scheme and the ongoing trade disputes between global economies could be some of the factors contributing to the growing interest in our market.

Already, estimates tell us 3 out of 4 iPhones sold in our country are made here only. Apple thus manages to garner the highest revenue too among the handset brands which is about $2.09 billion.

Since we are spewing numbers, the analysts are also forecasting Apple shipments to hit the 7 million mark in 2022 and as a result, scored a 5.5-per cent market share in India.

Apple logo

As for customers like you and me, what may be more interesting is that the Cupertino-giant has apparently managed to bring down the time consumed between the launch and local manufacturing of the latest iPhone to 6 months.

Now, what’s left to know is by when Apple will begin the complete production of the iPhone 13, but it shouldn’t take much time as the assembly is already in process. We’ll keep you posted on the major developments in this story going forward.

WhatsApp update hides media visibility of disappearing messages, adds drawing tools, and document sharing ETA

WhatsApp is tightening its grip on data privacy on the platform with its new updates. The latest one (as spotted by WABetaInfo) is a small measure but one that’s meaningful. The Meta-owned company is rolling out a new update to WhatsApp on Android and iOS wherein if you are sharing media as part of its Disappearing Message feature, then that won’t be automatically saved to the phone’s gallery or camera roll. Differently put, WhatsApp is disabling media visibility for disappearing messages.

How Media Visibility off for WhatsApp Disappearing Messages works

WhatsApp Media Visibility Off for Disappearing Messages | Via WABetaInfo

WhatsApp Media Visibility Off for Disappearing Messages | Via WABetaInfo

The point of Disappearing Messages in WhatsApp is to allow the user to send self-destructing messages that would automatically disappear in 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days from the time they are sent. By the way, the user can choose any of these durations. However, if the media shared in these conversations gets downloaded to the gallery, that may defeat the whole purpose.

So, with the new changes to the media visibility of Disappearing Messages, wherein the media involved in these conversations aren't saved to the gallery or camera roll.

But, if you want to save any of the media files, you can do so manually. You have to individually download the media items like images, gifs, and videos from within the conversation window.

This change has been pushed to both stable and beta WhatsApp channels and you should be getting the update anytime soon.

In related news, WhatsApp is also enabling new drawing tools (for both Android and iOS beta), a blur option for Android beta users specifically, and an estimated time of downloading/uploading a document file. Even if you are a non-beta WhatsApp user, you may get to try all these eventually.

OnePlus Folding Phone is rumored to be inspired by Oppo Find N: Heres what that could mean

OnePlus may soon hop on the foldable bandwagon. After all, it is among the very few brands that are yet to make a folding smartphone. Even one of its BBK brethren is gearing up to debut the Vivo X Fold as we speak. So, the news about a OnePlus foldable device should rouse at least its ardent fans. That said, this could be something that’s familiar as the latest bit of rumors suggest the OnePlus folding phone is a “copy of Oppo’s Find N”.

This wouldn’t come off as surprising to those who know OnePlus and Oppo (Both BBK subsidiaries) are known to share resources between them. However, since Oppo Find N was launched in December 2021 and the OnePlus foldable is expected to launch later this year or in 2023, the latter’s specs (perhaps some of it) may be brought up to date.

In any case, here’s what the Oppo foldable sports, for your understanding:

Oppo Find N Specs and Features

Oppo Find N

Outside, Oppo has given a 5.49-inch screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 1972x988 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and a Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Inside, it has a 7.1-inch, 1920x1792 pixel, 120Hz LTPO ‘Serene Display’. On top of this, there is a 0.03mm Ultra Thin Glass (UTG).

Oppo boasts the engineering of its Flexion Hinge (with 136 individual parts) that’s tested for 200,000 folds and unfolds. It can be propped up at various angles between 50 to 120 degrees.

Oppo Find N

Internally, the Find N comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage, a 4500mAh battery, 33W SuperVOOC wired charging, Android 11 based Color OS 12, 5G, 4G LTE, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, etc.

The Find N specifications also include a 50MP triple camera system by the back and a 32MP camera on the front and inside.

So, let’s see what all out of these would be carried over to the new OnePlus Fold or whatever that would be called. In time, we shall.

For the uninitiated, Raid Nights is the brand’s talent hunt to find India’s next big YouTube gaming streamer. Also, as part of its Twitter marketing strategy, iQOO is holding a free giveaway contest wherein the lucky winners would win an iQOO Z6 Pro 5G.

Besides this name drop, the brand hasn’t revealed any other key details about the device. So, we shall visit the rumor mill to gather some info.

— Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) April 9, 2022

Well, as per this purported iQOO Z6 Pro 5G Geekbench scoreboard, the phone has got a single-core score of 755 and a multi-core score of 2695. The tested model runs on Android 12, 6GB of RAM, and an octa-core Qualcomm processor said to be Snapdragon 778G.

Apple Dual USB-C Port 35W charger leaks Could launch in 2022

Apple is working on a dual USB-C port 35W power adapter, as per a new leak on the Apple website itself. This was first spotted by 9to5Mac who took screenshots of the said 35W Apple charger’s support documents from the site before it was taken down. Thanks to this swift action, we now have some hints of what to expect from this forthcoming Apple charger.

Let’s have a look.

Apple 35W dual USB-C GaN charger leak

Apple USB-C dual-port 35W charger

This wouldn’t be the first Apple GaN (gallium nitride) charger as there’s already a 140W GaN USB-C charger from the brand on the market. This wouldn’t be the first Apple USB-C charger either. What makes this first of its kind would be the fact that it is a dual USB-C GaN adapter from the brand.

This could be used to fast charge any combination of two Apple products including iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, MacBooks, etc.

As for the supported power specs, here are they:

Input: 100–240V /1.0A Output 1 or 2 (USB PD): 5VDC/3A or 9VDC/3A or 15VDC/2.33A or 20VDC/1.75A

The latter could mean that the charger might top up two devices at 15 watts or one at 27W and the other at 5W. But, we can’t be sure about the likely combinations.

Further from the leaked Apple support document, 9to5Mac also shares this extract:

“Use the Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter and a USB-C cable (not included) to charge your device. Connect a USB-C cable to either port on the power adapter, extend the electrical prongs (if necessary), then plug the power adapter firmly into the power outlet. Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible for disconnecting. Connect the other end of the cable to your device.”

So, this tells us that there won’t be a USB-C cable with this Apple dual USB-C charger. Bummer!

Anyways, reputed leakster Ming-Chi Kuo recently reported that the components for this Apple power adapter are getting closer to mass production and that his year the company is estimated to ship around 2-3 million units of it.

His tweet read:

Predicted last month that a new charger of about 30W would come in 2022. Components are nearing mass production, and this year's shipment estimation could reach 2-3M units.https://t.co/Xb2keIGYSQ

— Ming-Chi Kuo (@mingchikuo) April 9, 2022

Let’s see.
