Elon Musk finally takes ownership of Twitter and is on his way to a free-speech utopia

Twitter is now a private company and Elon Musk is its owner. As expected, the company announced that it has accepted Musk’s $54.20 per share buyout offer. The world’s richest person is paying $44 billion in cash to acquire the social media platform. He is making a $21 billion equity commitment and the remainder is sourced in the form of debt and margin loan financing.

Musk, a strong advocate of free-speech wants to free the blue-bird app from the supposed cage of censorship. Even the Twitter founder and ex-CEO Jack Dorsey says, “Elon is the singular solution I trust”.

In principle, I don’t believe anyone should own or run Twitter. It wants to be a public good at a protocol level, not a company. Solving for the problem of it being a company however, Elon is the singular solution I trust. I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness.

So, let’s see how Musk envisions this free-speech future for Twitter.

Elon Musk on making Twitter a free-speech digital town square

Twitter

Commenting on the Twitter deal announcement, Musk said, "Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated. I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spambots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it."

As some critics are suggesting, a way Musk, a Twitter power user, can act for the betterment of the platform is by introducing changes to make his new purchase a powerful and secure messaging solution as well as a community platform that can work on scale.

Twitter

Speaking of scale, how he intends to fix the content moderation challenges and whether he is planning to kill all bots, even the useful ones, is something to be seen.

Previously, while making his “best and final offer”, Musk had said, “I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy. However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company. Twitter has extraordinary potential. I will unlock it.”

That’s Elon for you. The guy now has a social media platform under his belt that already included SpaceX, Tesla, The Boring Company, and Neuralink.

Let’s see how things pan out for Twitter in the coming times.

Meanwhile, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal has said while announcing the deal, "Twitter has a purpose and relevance that impacts the entire world. Deeply proud of our teams and inspired by the work that has never been more important."

Later at a town-hall meeting, he was quoted as saying, "Once the deal closes, we don't know which direction the platform will go. We don’t have all the answers. This is a period of uncertainty.”

Realme Narzo 50A Prime launched in India with a Unisoc T612 SoC

Realme Narzo 50A Prime has made its way to India. It’s a budget smartphone with a 50MP triple rear camera setup, a 5000mAh power reserve, a 1080P screen, and a Unisoc T612 processor. It also comes in a trendy flat-edged design with a dual-tone finish on the back. However, it is also an entry-level phone that comes without a charger in the box. We’ll read Realme’s reasoning for the same along with other details below.

Realme Narzo 50A Prime Specs and Features

Realme Narzo 50A Prime

Realme has placed a 6.6-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with 600 nits peak brightness and 60Hz refresh rate. The camera cutout is of a waterdrop shape and the sensor inside is of 8-megapixel resolution.

The rear camera setup comprises a 50MP primary shooter, a 2MP macro module, and a 0.3MP depth sensor.

On the right side of the device, there is a fingerprint scanner that is also the power key. Meanwhile, on the left side, you get a dedicated microSD (up to 1TB) plus SIM card slot.

On the bottom of the device, there is a 3.5mm audio jack, a speaker grille, and a USB-C 2.0 port. Now, the phone doesn’t ship with an adapter. In other words, you have to purchase the supported 18W charger separately.

A few days back announcing this decision via its community platform, the company said, “For our upcoming product in the narzo series, the narzo 50A Prime will not include a wall charger in the box. This is also a first for us, for trying to give our best to the planet.”

Like many high-end smartphones, this Narzo phone also becomes the first of its kind to ditch a charger from the box for ecological reasons.

As for the rest of the device, you are getting a Unisoc T612 chip, up to 4+128GB memory, a 5000mAh battery, Android 11 with Realme UI R-edition software, dual-band WiFi ac, Dual 4G VoLTE SIMs, and Bluetooth 5.0.

Poco F4 GT renders have leaked ahead of its global launch on April 26

Poco is gearing up to launch a new GT-series smartphone called the Poco F4 GT. The brand has announced the F4 GT launch will be on April 26 at 20:00 GMT (which is 1:30 PM IST on April 27). The company calls it, “The Apex of Power”, and even though the brand hasn’t revealed anything else about the phone, it is rumoured to be a rebadged Redmi K50 Gaming Edition which debuted in China earlier this year. So, we can assume what to expect from the phone in terms of its specifications. What makes this even more probable is the newly leaked Poco F4 GT renders by Roland Quandt through the German website WinFuture.

We will get to them in a second, but before that, here’s the official Poco F4 GT announcement by the Poco Global Twitter page:

The biggest POCO launch of 2022 is coming! Bringing you #TheapexofPOWER, and more! Join us for #POCOF4GT global launch event on April 26th at 20:00 GMT+8! https://t.co/7p7rL4hDFg

— POCO (@POCOGlobal) April 22, 2022

On to the crux of the matter now.

Poco F4 GT Specs and Features (Expected)

Poco F4 GT

The device has shown up in the signature Poco Yellow, Grey, and Black colours in these renders.

As you can see in the said images, the Poco F4 GT is the spitting image of the Redmi K50 Gaming smartphone. So, Xiaomi is expected to rehash the internal hardware and software too.

If that’s the case, the Poco F4 GT could wield a 64MP Sony IMX686 main camera, an 8MP 120° ultrawide snapper, and a 2MP macro unit. On the other side, the selfie camera could be a 20MP sensor.

Poco F4 GT colors

This front camera could be lying within a 6.67-inch 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED display with Victus protection, 1B colours, and HDR10+ support.

At the heart of the device, there could be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, a 4700mAh battery with 120W fast charging, and multiple memory configurations.

We will get to know the actual available memory options and confirmed specs details once the brand announces them on April 26. It is also when the Poco Watch and the Poco Buds Pro Genshin Impact Edition are set to see daylight. We were the first to bring the renders and specifications of those Poco devices to you.
